Chapter 2

In my heart, I consoled myself, thinking that their sibling relationship was just too good, and I shouldn't be jealous. But deep down, there was a faint voice questioning, are they really just siblings? Or, are they truly biological siblings?

Andrew didn't come to explain that night, and my phone didn't light up that evening either. No messages, no explanations. I was giving Andrew the silent treatment.

To be precise, it was a one-sided silent treatment I was giving him. I'm not someone without a temper. In fact, my temper is worse than most girls, but I tend to be more patient with the people I care about. I can tolerate my partner's immaturity temporarily, but I also need timely feedback and explanations.

Andrew's actions happened to touch a nerve with me. I temporarily blocked him. At least for a while, I didn't want to see him. I intended to calm down for the time being.

But the school isn't that big, and people always have fixed locations for their classes. If you really want to confront someone, how could you possibly miss them?

So, just as the lab class ended and I stepped outside, I saw Andrew leaning against the hallway window.

Outside, the sky was breaking dawn, and it had rained earlier. Now, the light had broken free from the dark clouds and was shining on Andrew's profile, casting a kind of beautiful and weary look.

It was then that he turned and saw me, and I noticed that he was looking at me as if he were radiating light.

He just looked at me, using a soft and gentle voice to speak, "Jennifer, can we not break up?"

"Don't ignore me, okay?"

He looked so hesitant, as if a stray dog who had finally found its owner but was afraid of being abandoned again. So, he bared his belly, made a whining sound, and begged for my affection.

My heart immediately softened.

How could it not? After all, I really liked Andrew, and I genuinely wanted to be with him in the future.

Seeing that I had softened, Andrew embraced my waist, and his furry head lowered to rest on my neck. He continued to hurriedly explain, "That day, Linette got drunk at the bar, and I was worried about her. So, I wanted to call you to explain. But my phone got accidentally knocked to the ground by her, and I didn't intend to make you wait for me the whole night."

"Linette is young, and she just found out I have a girlfriend, so she might not be used to it yet. She didn't mean any harm. If you really don't want to meet in the future, I'll try my best to keep you from running into each other."

I sighed under my breath and returned Andrew's hug. "Okay, let's forget about it this time. Just don't keep things from me in the future. You know, I hate it when people lie to me."

I felt like I sensed Andrew freeze for a moment, but the next moment, he returned to normal, as if it had all been my imagination.

After that, my dates with Andrew remained enjoyable, and Andrew gave up on the idea of having Linette and me get along. However, I noticed that every time after our dates, Andrew would disappear for a day. My roommate found it strange and wondered if Andrew was seeing someone else. But in truth, I didn't find it that strange. After all, couples should have their privacy, and I trusted Andrew's character; he wouldn't betray me.
