VANESSA
SILVER WOLF PACK
“Get up.”
I heard and was kicked hard jerking me from my nap. I looked up to find the guards staring down at me with a look of despair, they carried me by the arm and I was led to the place that I didn't even know off. I finally sàw the sun again just when I thought it was going to be the end of me.
They dropped me on down on the ground and I knelt down before the Alpha, Luna and a few othef people. My haif was messing and I was looking rather very tattered, I didn't even have much to eat last night because they basically refused to feed me.
The beta walked out holding a scroll. I looked up at him and returned my gaze back to the ground before it posed as done kind of implication for me.
He opened the scroll and read, “Vanessa Ryans, the adopted daughter of late Mr and Mrs Ryan has been charged guilty and would therefore be given a punishment.”
“For attempting to kill the next in line to the throne, you are thereby sentenced to death and shall be beheaded tonight.”
I gasped, my heart pounding g hard in my chest. I didn't want to die, this was not what I wanted and the worst part of things was the fact that I wasn't even the one behind it but yet i was going to be the one facing the consequences.
“No, I can't die. I didn't do anything, I'm not the one who tried too kill him, it wasn't me,” i cried.
The next thing that hit me was a loud whip from a guard. It was so unexpected and painful that I fell to the ground, withering in pain. He didn't even allow me to savour in the pain and whipped me again, I got five lashes before he finally stopped and it was only because the beta ordered him too.
The king chuckled, stumping the ground hard with his feet. “You have alot of courage for a weak human like you and I'm going to make sure that I teach you a valuable lesson. I promise that you wouldn't love to see the light of the following day.”
He ordered for the guards to take me away and then I was taken to a nearby training round where I was to be persecuted. I didn't even bother to cry because I already knew at the back of my mind that it was to happen sooner or later but i was just trying to avoid it.
“Someone's here to see you. They're here to say their last goodbyes,” my mind immediately went to Laura.
She probably wanted to make a mockery of me again. She wasn't satisfied that she got me implicated and about to be persecuted but still as far as to make fun of me.
I looked up only to realize that it was my best friend. Her eyes were already swollen and I guess that she must have fried alot. She ran to me, hugging me tightly as we both cried our hearts out.
“It's all my fault, I should've defended you. I shouldn't have left you to do all the work in the kitchen maybe this could've been prevented.”
I wanted to wipe her tears away but I was tired up and couldn't do much but consokr her with my words. “You're not at fault here and I just want you to be courageous in everything. You have to take heart and accept that I'm gone.”
“Why? Why did it have to be you?” She cried again.
I was about to response to her when the guard walked in, breaking our time together short. “It's time for the persecution. It's better you take your leave now,” he told her.
“I'd never forget you, Vanessa.”
We hugged for the last time and then she left bidding me goodbye. I took a deep breath and waited for whatever would happen to take place quickly, at least I could be with my parents now.
Suddenly, there was some kind of whirlwind around. The sky got dark almost like the clouds were preparing for rainfall. It was very odd since the sky was very much clear earlier on.
The wind got heavier with time that it swept up the sand causing some kind of tornado. The guards that were about to persecute me ran away for their safety, leaving me alone to die. It only made their job easier anyways.
I felt a hand on my chin, lifting up my face and then I was met with a figure dressed in an all black attire even his face was covered completely with a hood and fit some reasons the sand didn't affect me anymore. I could already guess that he's the one controlling it.
“Who…Who are you?” I started shaking in fear.
“I don't have time and rather I would prefer you'd answer me in seconds. Do you want your freedom, yes or no?” He asked.
I nodded in response, “Yes…Yes.” I stuttered. “But at what cost? What do you want in return for it?”
I saw his lips and noticed that he had a smirk on. He released me in no time and it took a moment for me to react because I was still in awe.
He said somethings to me and whispered into my ear. “There's always a price for freedom.”
His voice sent thrills down my spine but I just tried my best to ignore it. I couldn't tell if he was just being helpful or there's something else he wanted.
“Who are you and what do you want?”
He chuckled and said, “You'd know with time but don't forget about me when I need you, okay?”
I nodded in response and he explained some things to me which I had to adhere too to get out of here.
“Thank you,” I said and walked away from him, trying to get past the sand that surrounded us.
“Vanessa,” he called and I turned to look at him. “You'd pay me back in due time. Don't ever forget that.”
