VANESSA
I tried wriggling free from their hold but they were stronger than I am. I was brought forth to the front of the alpha, he looked at me with a feeling of disgust while I fixed my gaze to the ground, averting it as far as possible from him.
“Are you Vanessa?” He inquired.
I looked up at him, my heart pounding hard in my chest. “Yes…Yes Alpha,” I stuttered.
“You answer me once when I ask you a question, is that understood?” He stayed and I immediately nodded in response.
“Use your words,” he ordered.
“Yes Alpha.”
It was like my heart was about to burst out of my chest and my breaths got heavier by the minute. I didn't even know if I could get out of this situation or rather he was going to have me thrown into the prison or worse, he's going to have me killed.
“How many of you were working in the kitchen today?” He asked.
“We were three, Alpha,” I replied.
“You're the one who made the flour from scratch, right?” He asked and I nodded in response again.
“Damian,” he summoned his beta. “Explain everything to her.”
“Alpha Dylan ate off the meal and after taking just a bite, he had an attack after that. We did a thorough investigation on the meal and found out that the poison was only part of the flour and I'm going to prove it to you.”
He took a bite out of it, making everyone gasp but nothing happened to him. Everyone started whispering, saying all sorts of things while I was praying for my innocence to be proved.
“But watch what happens when I feed it to an animal instead,” he added. A dog was brought forth to him, he took another scoop from the down part of it and fed it to the dog.
The dog started whimpering soon after. It was whimpering so loudly and couldn't adhere to the pain anymore, it ended up dying soon after. Everyone let out a gasp at the sight of it all and that was when I knew I was screwed.
“This shows that the poison is in one part which is where the flour is and based on the allegations, it was said that she did the flour which means that she poisoned it and tried to kill him.”
They all gasped and it felt like my head was pounding loudly, about to burst out of my head because I didn't even know what to do anymore. I couldn't even cry out loudly if I wanted to.
“I…I didn't kill him. I would never try too.”
“Are you the human that's living amongst us?” The king asked and I nodded in response.
“That's it right there. It's obvious that she tried to kill him because of jealousy. She's bittered and wanted to take revenge on the pack by attempting to kill him,” the Luna cried.
“No, I would never,” I sobbed. “I didn't do it. I didn't poison the Alpha's son, it wasn't me. Please, you have to believe me,” I pleaded with them.
No one listened to me and then I knew that I was done for. I thought that I could make it out of here as long as I didn't cause any trouble but never imagined that I would get framed instead.
“Take her to the dungeon. Her punishment shall be discussed and decided tomorrow,” he announced.
The guards nodded in response and carried me up. I was being led to the dungeon and then I slowly looked to see everyone looking at me with scornful expressions on their faces.
My eyes met with Laura, who looked at me with a smirk on her face. I got a flashback of her being alone in the kitchen when I was summoned by Mrs Claus. I remembered her threatening me, I didn't want to make any assumptions but then again it didn't matter because all fingers pointed to me.
“Stay here and await your punishment.”
They threw me into the dungeon in such an inhumane way. I sat down on the cold ground, my legs brought up to my chest as I sobbed loudly, wishing I was never born at that moment.
Why did I have to be the one to suffer? Because I'm human so they think it's just right to treat me like I'm nothing?
I heard footsteps coming from afar. I didn't bother to look up since I wasn't expecting anyone to check up on me. But something caught my attention when I heard someone hitting the bars.
I looked up to see Laura staring down at me with a smirk. “What are you doing here? How did you even get in here?”
“Do you think I'm miserable like you are? It's easy to get whatever you want once you have a pretty face,” she giggled.
Even in prison, she still wants to annoy me and wouldn't stop getting on my nerves. “Haven't you done enough? I'm in prison so I'm sure you're happy.”
“It's fun seeing you like this but it'd be more fun when they banish you and I don't have to see your filthy face ever again,” she spat.
“Are you going to torture me even in prison? I don't get why you're so obsessed with me, Laura?”
“Don't flatter yourself,” she warned. “I only came to make a mockery of you and I hope this serves as a warning never ever to mess with me.”
Those words got my attention and then it all started making sense. She's the one who's behind this after all, I had a feeling that she did it.
“So you did it? You poisoned him?”
“It's supposed to serve as a lesson but it worked too well.”
I couldn't even believe where the nerves were coming from. “What if he died? Is revenge really worth more than a person's life?”
“Watch your tongue otherwise you'd regret it and you should be thinking of yourself right now rather than someone else because I doubt if you'd even be allowed to live.”
