Jaxon didn't dare disobey.
Although Hunter was of the same generation as them, his remarkable career success commanded their respect.
Jaxon gave Willow a meaningful look, "I'll wait for you in the car."
Willow forced a smile.
After Jaxon left, the officers sensed the situation and said cheerfully, "Attorney Hawke needs to discuss private matters. Let's clear the room."
Willow was at a loss for words.
When everything had quieted down, Hunter lowered his head, playing with the cigarette between his fingers. His fingers were long and strong, making even this simple gesture captivating.
After a moment, he looked up at her. "Miss Wright, you're quite influential."
Willow was taken aback.
She instinctively defended herself, "Today's incident has nothing to do with me..."
"You want to say it has nothing to do with you?" Hunter smiled faintly, with a hint of mockery. "Miss Wright, can't you guess why they were fighting?"
The color drained from Willow's face.
Before the powerful Hunter Hawke, all her explanations were useless. Whatever he said was final because he was Hunter Hawke, the most formidable attorney in the country.
She, Willow Wright, was nothing more than an insignificant blade of grass.
Feeling wronged, her eyes glistened with tears. "Attorney Hawke, please rest assured that I will never interfere with your sister's relationship."
Hunter suddenly stood up and walked straight toward her.
Willow remained motionless.
She just stared at him with watery eyes, helplessly looking up.
Hunter looked down at her and even reached out to lightly stroke her delicate cheek. Willow felt humiliated and turned away awkwardly.
Hunter spoke softly, "Miss Wright, you must feel resentful. After all, Grant was the one who betrayed your relationship for Pearl, yet now you're being made to look like the other woman. That's unfair, isn't it?"
"I don't!"
"You still think about him?"
"I don't!"
...
Hunter withdrew his hand and smiled faintly.
He said, "I believe your assurances."
Willow felt both embarrassed and angry. Why was Hunter treating her this way? She didn't dare lash out, only whispering a few words, "Hunter, you're a jerk!"
He didn't get angry, just looked at her intently.
After a long moment, Hunter finally spoke, saying quietly, "You did nothing wrong. Your only mistake was believing too much in love."
Willow was stunned.
By the time she regained her senses, Hunter had already left.
...
Hunter concentrated on driving.
In the rearview mirror, he occasionally caught sight of his sister leaning on her man's shoulder, looking blissful.
Hunter curved his lips slightly, somewhat mockingly.
The golden Bentley Continental slowly stopped at the restaurant entrance. Grant got out and bent down to thank Hunter. The two men's gazes met, sharing a meaning only they understood.
Hunter nodded slightly and drove away.
Pearl climbed into the passenger seat.
"A young lady should behave like a young lady, with more elegance," Hunter reprimanded his sister.
Pearl didn't listen, instead leaning toward her brother to whisper mysteriously, "That Miss Wright today was quite pretty! I never would have guessed Jaxon liked that type... Brother, I think she's at least a C-cup!"
Hunter lowered the car window slightly.
He suddenly felt his body growing warm!
Pearl continued talking to herself: "She's so beautiful, I was actually a bit suspicious about her and Grant... Fortunately, she's with Jaxon now."
Hunter didn't respond, continuing to focus on driving.
After a while, he asked Pearl casually, "When are you getting married?"
Pearl replied coyly, "That depends on Grant's wishes. He's at a crucial point in his career now, and I don't want to pressure him too much."
At a red light, Hunter stopped the car.
He turned to her, "Does he love you?"
"Of course."
"What does he love about you?"
Pearl wasn't stumped by the question. She confidently answered, "He loves my good family background, high education, my beauty, my respectable parents, and having a capable brother..."
Hunter let out a soft chuckle.
