Chapter 1

On the day of my car accident, my parents scolded me for not attending my sister's wedding.

I vaguely remember that as my car approached the turn, a large truck came head-on and hit my car.

I could no longer think straight, only aware that I was submerged in a pool of blood, every breath painful, my throat filled with the thick scent of blood.

My parents called, and I managed to touch the answer button, struggling to tell them about the accident.

But I heard scolding from the other end of the phone. "You don't even come to your sister's wedding? If you won't come, then don't bother. You're an eyesore!"

"Now, I hereby pronounce Joe and Felicity happily wedded. I wish the newlyweds joy and a century of..."

I couldn't hear the rest.

Joe May was the one I had loved all through my youth.

And I was my parents' biological daughter.

In despair, I closed my eyes, and soon after being taken to the hospital by passersby, I was declared beyond saving.

I thought, if life could start over, I would not compete for love but rather focus on studying hard and earning money.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back during the summer of my tenth year, when my aunt and uncle died in a plane crash while on a business trip. Only the young Felicity, who was at school, survived.

Feeling pity for her, my parents brought her to our home.

"Sarah, from now on, Felicity is your sister. Your aunt and uncle are gone, and you are now Felicity's elder sister. You must protect her, understand?"

The same scenario, the same words.

I looked up at Felicity, the girl who in my previous life had taken away my parents, my brother, the youth I had loved, and everyone who loved me. Yet, I had contended with her until my death, never cared for by anyone around me.

"I am only three days older than her. That's not much older. How am I supposed to protect her?" I retorted irritably.

"How can you speak like that? Being three days older still counts. Besides, your aunt and uncle just passed away. Felicity is helpless now. Can't you speak kindly?" my father scolded me, his face dark.

Felicity came over and tugged at my sleeve, her innocent and pitiful eyes fixed on me, tears already swirling in her eyes. "Sarah, do you dislike me? If you do, I can go back to the orphanage."

My brother spoke up, "Sarah, you have no compassion at all. Felicity, don't mind her."

"Can I really stay here then?"

"Of course. From now on, we are your family. Once we get all the paperwork done, you will take Sarah’s father’s last name."

"Okay," Felicity turned her tears into a smile and threw herself into my mother's arms. "Thank you, aunt."

"Silly child. Why still call me aunt? Call me mom." My mother affectionately stroked Felicity's head.

"Mom, Dad."

I scoffed coldly, "If there's nothing else, I'll go back to my painting."

Watching the scene before me, I still felt a moment of sadness. But remembering that no one cared even when I died in my previous life, it all seemed trivial.
