Chpater 8: Betrayal

The clicks of the metals could be heard even from your position as you took a deep breath, waiting for them to enter your chambers. As soon as they did, they slammed the sliding door open and entered the room without your permission.

"Search the entire chamber!" The Chief of the Royal Guards yelled, announcing every guard present in the room to ransack your chambers.

You watched them in anger, gritting your teeth. "How dare a mere guard come here?!"

The Chief of the Royal Guard, Min Yoongi, looked at you before bowing— acknowledging your presence. He hated to be called a mere guard when he is the Chief of the Royal Guard. A bastard he is, yet I don't even know why Jimin chose him.

"We apologise for the inconvenience, Your Majesty, but we're investigating right now."

"What are you talking about?" You eyed him, as he got near you. Sounds of the guards searching every cabinets could be heard.

"Your Court Lady told me something interesting," He smirked at you. "Interesting like—you being involved with Consort Jeon's incident."

You clicked your tongue, giving him a glare as he sat in front of you with so much confidence. "Do you have a decree or verbal order from the King to invade my chamber?"

"Why would I need a decree when a royal noble consort is involved in this matter?"

"Are you considering yourself way above then? Even national affairs needed a decree!" You hissed, slamming your fist on the table. "How dare you invade the chamber of a Queen even without the King, Queen Dowager or Prime Minister's decree?!"

Yoongi huffed before slamming his hands on the table this time, making you startled. "I am the Chief of the Royal Guard, and I have the authority to seize anyone who tried to commit treason!"

And you had a quite long stares of hatred with him. You really despised the man so much.

"Chief!" A guard called making Yoongi and you snapped your head towards him. Your eyes widened as you stared at the white cloth the guard was holding— inside of it was the powder that almost killed Jungkook.

Yoongi looked at you with a smug look on his face that you wanted to slap it off before he stood up, going towards the guard. He grasped it, before facing you, and raising it to his eye level. "Now look what we have here."

He opened the cloth, slowly approaching you before he bent down and putting the cloth on the table. "Isn't this the powder that contains poison?"

Your lips trembled, looking at Yoongi— not wanting to lose. "It's not a poison."

You snapped, before adding. "It's a herb for me."

"Really?" Yoongi mocked you, as your knuckles turned white from clutching the skirt in nervousness. He took a pinch of the powder, and raising it up before releasing it from his fingertips. "An herb that contains cyanide?"

Your eyebrows furrowed, and Yoongi leaned in near your face making you back away. "Do you really think I'm that dumb, Your Majesty?"

Your eyes never left him, as he continue to stare at you while you remembered the things you told to Court Lady Kang. She really did a good job.

FLASHBACK

"Put this on the cabinet." You snarled, placing the cloth on the table as you order Court Lady Kang infront of you.

"Isn't this the poiso—" You cut her off.

"Betray me."

Her eyes widened, choking her saliva as she coughed. "What?!"

"Betray me, Court Lady Kang." You firmly said, eyes pleading for her to do it.

"Your Majesty!" She shrieked in fear.

"Betray me." You repeated again, almost pleading.

Panic filled her eyes. "I've been with you since you came here as the Queen, how could I—"

"This is for Jimin's good." You interrupted again making her halt from her words.

"Pardon?"

"I need you to put this on the cabinet, and tell the Chief of the Royal Guard that I am involved." You ordered, accordingly. "I'm sure the assistant will immediately announce it to Jimin."

Court Lady Kang looked at you in disbelief, oblivious by what you planned. "Why are you—"

"The maids that were interrogated." You paused, remembering the sounds of their screams and images of the tortures they suffered for you. "I know you're close to them...I just don't want them to suffer anymore."

Her lips parted but you just shook your head, not wanting her to disobey you anymore. At the end, she eventually nodded and went out. You straightened up your posture, hiding your cold hands inside your hanbok.

"I will do everything easy for you, Jimin."

You closed your eyes. "I will betray myself before you think I betrayed you."

END OF FLASHBACK

You and Yoongi stopped your staring contest as soon as you heard a sound coming from the door. Your head jerked away to see your brother panting, heavily.

KIM SEOKJIN'S POINT OF VIEW

There must be something wrong. No! Everything seemed wrong. Just how— how could Court Lady Kang betray my sister like this? And what does she mean by being involved? Did my sister really tried to kill Jungkook? No. It couldn't be.

They found the poison in Consort Jeon's room, and found nothing in my sister's room? So how? Impossible. I remember her giving the cloth yester— and that's when everything hit me.

"Prime Minister!" A guard ran towards us, interrupting my thoughts as he panted making me looked at him in anticipation.

"What happened?" I asked him, curiously.

"Chief Min has started invading the Queen's chamber." He informed out, breathless.

"What?!" Jimin shrieked from behind making the guard nodded.

"He brought the guards there, and just ransacked the entire Palace in search for evidence after he found out that the Queen is involved."

My eyes widened, immediately eyes fixed back on Court Lady Kang. "You told Chief Min before announcing it to us?!"

I looked at her as she started to panic again, and I knew there was something odd in her behaviour. I faced Jimin, as he looked at me confused. "It's best if you don't go there, Your Majesty."

Without wasting time, I immediately darted myself toward the Queen's Palace, leaving Jimin behind because it's really the best for him not to witness things he might regret. As soon as I arrived in the palace, my jaw dropped at the sight of the Palace— it was messy with all the guards surrounding.

I immediately ran inside with the guards greeting me in unison. I noticed that there were no maids inside the palace, realising that they were all in the interrogation.

How cruel was I as a brother to leave my sister without any protection?

I slammed the door open, hearing the sounds of different noises, and seeing my sister and Yoongi facing as if they'll kill each other in any minute now.

"Stop it now!" I yelled, making all the guards looked at us. Yoongi stood up from his position, raising his fist and it made all the guards stop.

"Let's call it a day today," He smiled cockily, gaze fixed with mine. "And make sure to hide the evidence well— don't even let a single ant gets near it. We do not know when will the rats get it."

With that, all of the guards went out including Yoongi as I just stood there flustered. I watched as my sister started breathing heavily, eyes brimmed with tears.

"So this was your plan?" My voice cracked, heart felt a pang of guilt.
