The First Appointment

The evening wasn't over yet, and already, the first steps towards a complex and passionate relationship had been taken. Their paths, though coming from different worlds, seemed inevitably destined to cross again.

The night was drawing to a close, and the ballroom was slowly emptying of guests. Camille, having taken a moment to herself on the terrace, had returned to the great hall, her mind still full of her conversation with Alex. She searched her eyes for him, hoping he was still there. For some reason she couldn't fully explain, she felt a strong urge to keep talking to him.

Meanwhile, Alex, who had been joined by Pierre, was chatting with a few other guests near the bar. But even as he exchanged jokes and anecdotes, he couldn't get Camille out of his mind. This encounter had left a deep impression on him, far stronger than he could have imagined.

As Camille made her way into the room, she caught sight of Alex and his friends. An involuntary smile played on her lips as she watched him laugh and chat. He seemed so at ease, so genuine. Taking a breath, she walked towards him.

Pierre noticed her first and nodded to Alex, who turned to meet Camille's gaze. He apologized to his friends and went to meet her.

“You're back,” he said, a warm smile on his face.

“Yes,” Camille replied, a little nervous but determined not to let this opportunity slip away. “I wanted to make sure I didn't end the evening without saying goodbye.”

“I'm glad you came back,” Alex said sincerely. “May I walk you to your car?”

Camille nodded, touched by his thoughtfulness. “With pleasure.”

They left the ballroom together, the sounds of the party fading behind them. The cool of the night enveloped them as they descended the steps of the Ritz.

“That was an interesting evening,” Camille began, breaking the silence. “I enjoyed our conversation.”

“Me too,” replied Alex. ”I must admit, I wasn't expecting to meet someone like you tonight.”

“Someone like me?” asked Camille, intrigued.

“Yes,” confirmed Alex, ”a person who, despite his tough exterior, possesses remarkable depth and sensitivity.”

Camille was touched by his words. Few people took the time to see beyond his façade. “Thank you, Alex. Your words mean a lot to me.”

They stopped in front of Camille's limousine. The driver waited patiently, ready to open the door.

“I hope this isn't the last time we'll see each other,” Alex said, a hint of hope in his voice.

Camille hesitated for a moment, then took a business card out of her handbag. “Here's my number. Let's call it a start.”

Alex took the card with a grateful smile. “I'll call you soon, I promise.”

Camille climbed into the limousine, a mixture of satisfaction and nervousness washing over her. As the car pulled away, she looked out the window and saw Alex waving at her. She smiled, feeling strangely happy.

For Alex, the evening was far from over. He watched the limousine disappear around the corner, his heart still pounding at the thought of Camille. This encounter had changed something in him. He knew he had to see her again, to continue discovering this fascinating woman.

Back at home, Alex couldn't help thinking over every detail of their conversation. He lay back in bed, Camille's business card on his bedside table. He promised himself he'd call her as soon as possible, determined to deepen this budding connection.

Camille, for her part, lost herself in thought as the limousine sped through the sleepy city. This encounter with Alex had been a breath of fresh air, a welcome break in her well-ordered life. For the first time in a long time, she felt hopeful about the future.

The days that followed were marked by feverish anticipation on both sides. Alex, true to his promise, called Camille a few days later, and their conversation continued where it had left off. Thus began a series of meetings and discussions that would gradually bring them closer together, despite the obstacles ahead.

The first sparks of a deep and complex relationship had been lit that evening at the Ritz. And although challenges lay ahead, Alex and Camille already sensed that something special was forming between them.

A week had passed since the gala, and Alex hadn't been able to banish Camille from his thoughts. Camille's business card remained on his bedside table, a constant reminder of their meeting. Finally, after several minutes' hesitation, he picked up the phone and dialed.

Camille was sitting at her desk, answering e-mails, when her phone rang. Seeing the unfamiliar number, she had a hunch. “Hello?”

“Camille? It's Alex. I was wondering if you'd be available for dinner tonight?”

Camille smiled, pleasantly surprised. “Yes, Alex. It would be my pleasure. Where would you like to go?”

“How about Café Marly? I hear the view of the Louvre is magnificent in the evening.”

“It's perfect. At what time?”

“Shall we say 7 p.m.?”

“Perfect. See you then, Alex.”

At 7 p.m. sharp, Camille arrived at the Café Marly. The terrace offered a breathtaking view of the glass pyramid of the Louvre, illuminated under the twilight Paris sky. Alex was already there, sitting at a table near the balustrade, visibly nervous but smiling at the sight of her.

“Good evening,” he said, rising to greet her. “You look beautiful.”

Camille, dressed in an elegant black dress, smiled back at him. “Thank you, Alex. You don't look bad yourself.”

They took their seats and began to explore the menu. After ordering their dishes, Alex struck up a conversation.

“So, how was your week?”

Camille sighed slightly. “Quite busy, as usual. But I must say, I've been looking forward to this dinner. How about you?”

“The same. Work has been intense, but I couldn't stop thinking about our meeting.”

Their dinner was pleasant and relaxed. They talked about their lives, their passions, even their fears. Camille found herself opening up more than she had in a long time. Alex had a natural way of putting her at ease.

“You know,” Alex said at one point, ”I really admire what you've accomplished. Running an empire like yours can't be easy.”

Camille shrugged. “It's not always easy, but that's what I do. Sometimes I wish things were a little less... complicated.”

“I understand that. But I think it's precisely these challenges that make us stronger.”

Camille looked at him with new appreciation. “You're right, Alex. Thanks for the reminder.”

Dinner ended on a soft, warm note. Alex paid the bill, and they decided to take a stroll through the gardens of the Louvre. Under the dim lights and stars, they walked side by side, enjoying the calm of the Parisian night.

“I must admit I've had a wonderful evening,” said Camille, stopping beside a fountain.

“Me too,” Alex replied, turning to her. “Camille, I don't want to rush things, but I'd really like to see you again.”

Camille felt her heart beat faster. She appreciated his honesty and kindness. “I'd like that too, Alex.”

They looked into each other's eyes, the silence between them filled with promise. Alex approached slowly, and Camille didn't pull away. Their lips touched in a soft, tender kiss, a first contact that sealed the beginning of something beautiful and precious.

When they parted, Camille murmured, “Thank you for this evening, Alex.”

“Thank you, Camille. See you soon.”

As they went their separate ways, a new connection had formed between them, a bond strengthened by this magical evening. They knew there were challenges ahead, but for the first time in a long time, Camille and Alex felt ready to face them together.

Their hearts were lighter, and the future suddenly seemed full of promise and possibility.
