Isabella's POV
We both entered my office and I looked around to see everything so well-organized and simple yet elegant.
"Here's your desk and you will keep all your files on this shelf. But the secret files should be in this drawer." He showed me the inside of the drawer and taught me how to lock it. "Also, this phone is only for Mr. West's calls. This one," He pointed the other phone next to it."is for costumers."
I simply nodded.
He continued. "Don't call Mr. West if it's not urgent or really necessarry. Be organized, don't be late to anything. Everything has to be perfect." He gave me a notebook. "This is where you'll write his schedule. Of course you'll have to write on the laptop too but if you make instant changes and you don't have this with you at the moment," he pointed the Macbook sitting on my desk, "you'll make the changes on the notebook."
He told me everything I needed to know and taught me how to use the phone, the laptop and some other stuff.
After a half an hour I was left alone with some files and documents on my desk that needed organizing. I wasn't going to go to Mr. West's office because Ryder had told me he had an important meeting and that he would call me if he needed me.
***
When I was done with everything. Including his schedule, the office phone rang. I thought it was the customer phone because a bunch of them had called and I knew the ringtone but it was the other one.
His.
My palms sweat and I answered it a bit nervously. I tried to keep my voice as confident as I could. I wanted his first impression of me to be good.
"Hello, Mr. West?" I felt a drop of sweat slide down my forehead.
"Hi, Isabella, can you come to my room?" His voice was so familiar. Really familiar.
Oh God, please let it not be him.
"Of course, sir." I hung up and quickly stood up from my chair. I fixed my skirt, my hair and made sure I didn't look too much.
I walked out of my office and knocked on Mr. West's door with a little hesitation.
I was afraid of what I was about to see. If he was Adrian West then I could just faint in front of him. We couldn't have a boss-employee relationship with him after the kiss. It felt impossible. I also had told him that I would never kiss him again but a big part of me wanted to taste his sweet lips. If he turned out to be my boss, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to fight the urge to kiss him.
Curiosity and fear was all over my body as I heard him say: "Come in." His voice was husky and hell, it made me feel the wetness in my panties.
I slowly, very slowly opened the door with my head down, scared of the sight in front of me.
I stepped inside and lifted my head-again,really slowly- to see the last person I wanted to see. He had shock written on his face. Mine only had sadness, fear and a little bit of desire.
Coincidence is a bitch. I thought as I spoke,
"You."
I wasn't surprised that the man staring at me in disbelief and pure shock was Adrian West. I knew it would be him. I just had a little bit of hope that it was someone else from the family.
"Holy shit." I barely heard what he murmured to himself.
It took seconds for him to straighten up, clear his throat and pull a serious face. I just stood there waiting for him to say something.
"I'm guessing that you are the new assistant? Isabella, am I right?" Well, if he was going to act like nothing had happened, then probably I had to play along.
I cleared my throat. "Yes, sir." When he didn't speak, I opened my mouth. "I prepared your schedule and sent it to your e-mail adress, also organized the files that Ryder gave me. Is there something else you would like me to do?" To my surprise, I spoke so confidently, not stuttering for once. I didn't know where this strength came from. Maybe it was the assuring look in his eyes that silently told me that he was having a hard time finding his voice too.
"Actually yes, I want you to call Haley Anderson and tell her that I want to have a meeting with her in two hours in my office." He paused and waited for me to write it on my notebook. "Also, I want the list of every single person that is going to Rafael Devine's fundraising event tomorrow night."
He looked tense. Almost uneasy because of my presence. I knew that he recognized me. There wasn't another explanation for the face he had on when I first entered.
Just, I didn't know why he acted like he didn't know me. We could've sat down and talked about it, agreeing that it was nothing important and we had to continue our job like two professionals. But what had he decided to do? Ignore the fact that we had kissed the day before.
"Of course sir." I wrote down the things I needed to do on my little notebook, lifted my head when I was done and waited for him to dismiss me.
"You can go now, Isabella." I turned around. Just when I held the door knob, I heard his voice again. "By the way, don't forget to buy yourself a dress."
