Chapter 7: Where his wife?

I looked at Sir Reed as he drank the coffee I had brewed.

I’m thinking now, how can I be able to ban Sir Reed here in my café, without him noticing or even by anyone. I don’t want to see him, even in his shadow.

My heartbeat quickened, and I lost sight of Sir Reed when he looked at me. This again makes me feel strange. The speed of my heartbeat again, and what was tickling my stomach because of just one glance from Sir Reed.

“Ma’am.”

I looked at Dave when he called me.

“Why?” I ask Dave.

Dave pointed the customers in front of me to pay for their orders. There was no one in front of me earlier. When else was there a customer in front of me?

“Ma’am, are you alright? Do you want me just to be here at the counter?” Luis whispered as he approached me.

“No thanks. I can do this.” I reply to Luis.

“Okay, Ma’am. But, if you are not feeling well, we’re just here.” Luis said, then went back to what he was doing.

I have already turned my attention to customers who will pay me and apologize to them.

What am I thinking about Sir Reed? I should not think of banning him, because he’s not doing anything bad. Maybe I’m just too pleased with Sir Reed because he doesn’t tire of the coffee I’m brewing. Right! That’s just the reason and nothing. So, there’s no need to even think about banning Sir Reed here in my café, because there’s no reason, and it’s just that I feel weird with him. And one more thing, we are both married.

“Ma’am!” I look at Rey as he screams like there’s a fire here.

“Just enjoy what you eat and do,” I told the customers who looked at us.

“Didn’t I tell you, Rey? Avoid shouting or just lower your voice? The customers will think there will be a problem or what, here.” I preached to Rey when he went to me.

“I’m sorry Ma’am. We don’t have any other desserts.” Rey said to me.

I look at our desserts. Especially the cake and cupcakes that are a favourite of my other customers.

“Our supplier said they can’t deliver today.”

“Again? Why?”

What should I do? I might lose customers because of this.

“You can order from Gaira.”

Rey and I looked at Sir Reed, who was in front of us.

“Gaira’s cakes and cupcakes are delicious and she always does too much.”

“But...” I didn’t tell Gaira. It might be embarrassing for me to suddenly show up at her restaurant, and buy a lot of his cakes and cupcakes.

“Hey, are you going to Gaira or not? I am going to her restaurant.”

“Yes. Yes. Alright, I’m going to Gaira.” I said, then took my bag and left the café.

When I came out of the café, Sir Reed approached me. “You won’t come with me?”  Sir Reed asked me.

“No. What do you think if other people will see me with you?” I replied to Sir Reed without looking at him.

“It’s up to you. It will be faster if you come with me.” Sir Reed said.

I look at Sir Reed. He twisted his car key with his finger. He is so annoying.

“Alright. I will go with you, Sir Reed.” I narrowed my eyes and said to him,

When Sir Reed and I arrived in Gaira’s restaurant, I saw the shock in her eyes. Who would not be surprised if your married friend is with someone else?

“I didn’t know you two were close?” Gaira asked us when Sir Reed, and I approached her.

“No. We’re not close. He just saw me outside. That’s right, I just met him outside and then he was also going to your restaurant.” I explained as if I am the other woman.

I want to slap myself now. I feel like I am a mistress of Sir Reed and caught by her wife.

“Really? But, Reed doesn’t let other people get in his car.”

It’s like, I’m nervous. I feel like I am a mistress now thinking of a good reason so Sir Reed’s wife we don’t get caught.

“I’m leaving.” Sir Reed said suddenly.

I followed Sir Reed’s gaze as he exited the restaurant. I wanted to take my eyes off him, but my body couldn’t. As if my body has a mind of its own and I can’t control it.

“Dana?”

I jumped in shock when Gaira suddenly appeared in front of me.

“Why?”  I stammered to ask her.

What is happening to me? Every time I see Sir Reed I lose myself.

“Will you eat here again? I will reserve a seat for you.” Gaira asked me.

“No. I will not eat. What is it,”

What else do I need? Why do I look like this every time I see Sir Reed?

“You look stressed, Dana. Would you like some dessert?” Gaira asked me.

Right! Desserts!

“Yes, Gaira. I’m here for dessert because the dessert I ordered last time here was delicious. ”

“I think you didn’t come here to praise my dessert?” Gaira asked while smiling.

I scratch my neck.  “The truth is. Our supplier of cakes and cupcakes could not deliver to us. Can I buy you a lot of cake and cupcakes?”

“Of course. I have too many cakes and cupcakes.”

I hugged Gaira to my great delight.  “Thank you so much, Gaira. You fell from the sky on me.” I said let go of the hug.

“How many boxes do you want?” Gaira asked me.

“Hmmm ... Five boxes of cake and sixty pieces of cupcakes.”

“Assorted flavour?”

“Yes.”

“Noted. Sit down first. I will prepare your orders.” Gaira said then she went to the kitchen of the restaurant.

I sat in the vacancy closest to me. Soon, Gaira came up to me and sat in the chair opposite to me.

“Dana, I’m sorry for what I did earlier. I’m sorry if I look like Reed’s wife.”

Why did my blood suddenly heat up when Gaira mentioned that she looks like Reed’s wife? It’s like, I want to slap her at any time.

“It’s okay. You’re Reed’s friend so, I know you don’t want to hurt him.” I smile in response.

I don’t understand the sudden annoyance I felt for Gaira.

“You don’t like Reed, do you?” Gaira looked at my hand wearing a wedding ring and looked at me again. “And, you’re faithful to your husband, aren’t you?”

I smiled at Gaira and answered her question with a high forehead. “Yes. I am faithful to my husband.”

Gaira smiled back at me. “Again, sorry if I look doubtful. I’m friends with Reed’s wife, I just don’t want to hurt my friend. And one more thing, when she came back, I didn’t want Reed to have another woman.”

Reed’s wife’s return? Is his wife on vacation?
