After I let him in we sat in my room watching Netflix and eating all the snacks we could sneak up from the kitchen. We were currently watching French movies since we ran out of American movies to watch.
“So how was Hungary?” I jumped on my knees and grabbed his arm.
“It was amazing! Everything I ever wanted to know about me, or werewolves, or our family uncle Darrius and Derrick would tell me. Like why we have these marks and why we feel each other’s emotions or-“ Nick placed his hand over my mouth to shut me up.
“Time out. We can feel each other’s emotions?” I smiled as he uncovered my mouth. I told him everything that uncle Darrius had told me while I was in Hungary about twins and our family.
“Why didn’t dad tell us any of this?” I shrugged not having an answer for him.
He was deep in thought about what I had told him before he just nodded his head. I looked at him confused, so he kissed the top of my head before getting up.
“Come on shortness, dad wants us to sit in for the treaty talks with Mason’s pack.” I tensed and Nick noticed.
He slowly walked back over to me and pulled on my arm to make me stand up. He grabbed my face with both of his hands before looking me straight in the eyes.
“Don’t let him get to you. Do you still like him?”
“No!” I said a little too quickly. Nick just nodded his head.
“Then prove it. Let’s go.”
He let go of my face to grab my hand and lead me down to my dad’s office. Slowly my demeanor changed the closer we got. I knew Nick could tell but he said nothing. Walking through the door I glared at all the men in the room.
“Glad you two could make it.”
I walked to the side our warriors stood and picked my own spot before crossing my arms and glaring at their Beta. I could feel Mason’s eyes on me but like Nick said I wasn’t going to let him get to me.
“Now for this treaty.” I looked at my father to see him pull out a document. He placed it down before he pushed it across the table towards Mason. Mason looked it over and stopped before placing it back down.
“I won’t sign that.”
“Why not?” Mason’s fist balled in anger as he gritted his teeth.
“We’ve talked about it before. I won’t give you a section of our land.” I looked at my dad bewildered. Treaties weren’t meant to be land transfers. What was he thinking?
“Then it doesn’t seem like we will be able to make an agreement.” I looked at Nick and saw that he disagreed as much as I did.
“Dad.” Every head snapped in my direction when I spoke that one word. No pressure at all. “I don’t think that should be a clause in your treaty.”
I watched as my dad’s face turned red with anger. “Hear me out. Treaties aren’t made as a way to transfer property. It draws lines and boundaries between two packs. You’re trying to bully a younger and more capable alpha. It really isn’t that smart.”
“Cassie. Out.” Well I had to see that one coming. I just shrugged as I walked out of the room.
Was I going to get in trouble for this? You better believe it. What shocked me is I didn’t care. My father was doing bad business and if no one else would call him on it. Then I would. Suddenly I felt a cold shiver run down my spine but I knew that no one was around to make me feel that way.
“Nick, what’s going on?”
He didn’t answer me which made me worry more. I watched as all of Mason’s men left before I looked at Nick who was following behind them.
“What’s going on?”
“We have two really big problems.” His eyes kept darting between the windows like he was looking for something.
“What is it?” I know I probably sounded panicked but I didn’t know what would freak my brother out this much.
“Rogues have been spotted in the area and the alpha from the Night Stalker Pack is coming here to discuss the new terms of our treaty.”
I paled thinking about the alpha of the Night Stalker Pack. He was so renowned even in Europe for his brutal tactics and iron fist. Every story ever told of him provoked nightmares, even in mature werewolves.
“Cassie!” My brother was waving his hand in front of my face before I came back to reality.
“Sorry. I kind of zoned out. What were you saying?”
“We’re going Rogue hunting.”
I walked up to my room and put on my black pants that had very specific slits to fit blades. Next I put on my black tank that stopped just above my belly button so I could keep my full range of motion. The last thing I put on was my belt that allowed me to place my favorite weapon behind my back on the belt.
Walking into the living room most of our warriors were standing on our front lawn listening to what my father was saying.
“What is he telling them?”
“Who they have to follow.” I looked at Nick a little confused and he gave me a small smile.
I walked out with Nick and John before my father finished up his speech and turned his attention to us.
“Nick I want you to take a group up North, John take them east towards-“
“Why? It makes sense to protect our borders. Why would we worry about Mason?” My father glared at me again. If I was in the running for favorite child before, it was long gone.
“Because we don’t have a treaty, I can’t trust him and I’m the alpha so you do as I say. I’ll take the last group to the south and drive them off our lands.” Nick and John nodded while I raised my hand like a student in the classroom.
“What?” He snapped at me.
“What do I do?”
“You’re going with John. I can’t trust you to run a group yourself after that showing you had.” I rolled my eyes as he walked away to take his group to the south of our lands.
I turned to John to see if he was blindly loyal to my father or if he would use common sense. “John you know that we need to check the west. They wouldn’t come through Mason’s territory.”
“How could they come west? There is an ocean over there you know, or have you been in Hungary too long?” I gave him a forced smile before I walked off on my own.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m not following a washed up beta!” I yelled over my shoulder as I start a brisk jog to the west of our lands. After making it into the woods I picked up my speed to a full run. I finally stopped when my lungs burned with the need for oxygen. I looked around and had no idea where I was. What I did know is that I was close to the furthest part of our territory. While catching my breath I felt the hair on my neck raise. Someone was circling me. I looked around but couldn’t see.
I heard chuckling and turned to see a naked male making his way towards me. I quickly placed my hands up to block his lower area. I hadn’t seen a naked man down low yet and he wasn’t going to be the first one. He was definitely a mature werewolf with brown hair and brown eyes. His body covered in scars.
“You’re very far from home.” He had a smirk glued on his face and he spoke like most people did to a baby.
“And…” My toned was clipped and very cold.
“Hmm she’s not your average girl, is she?” I turned to see the blonde with brown eyes sitting in a tree.
How many of them are there? I sniffed to get an idea but couldn’t. My emotions were too haywire to focus.
“You belong to the Blue Silver Pack?” The blonde seemed very uninterested with his own question.
“I am the beta. What does it matter?”
They both laughed a humorless laugh before I felt the hairs on my neck raise again. Someone was coming and they were raw power. I knew they felt it too when they stopped laughing and looked behind me.
I turned around slowly scared of what I would see. I had to bite the insides of my cheek to keep from making a fool of myself. There stood three wolves, one bigger than my cousin Derrick was. I kept looking at the biggest one, pegging him as their alpha.
He looked like the monster your parents tell you about to keep you out of the woods. Since he was bigger than Derrick I knew he was bigger than 6’5” and if I had to guess his weight it would be 250 lbs. He had black hair and white eyes to match his deadly glare. Black seemed to be his color since that’s the only color he wore. Black cargo pants, black ass kicking boots, and a very tight long sleeve black shirt.
I even spotted a tattoo written in the old language behind his right ear when he turned to face the blonde sitting in the tree.
“What pack do you belong to?”
I knew I wasn’t the only one intimidated by the new wolf because the blonde couldn’t even speak. He kept stuttering when he tried to talk. I laughed which I instantly regretted. The alpha turned his attention to me before he walked right up to me.
“Mine.”
