Chapter 2

Luke and I were childhood sweethearts. Honestly, it was only natural that we ended up getting married. I was well aware of his flirtatious and playful nature. Otherwise, he wouldn't have indulged himself with another woman in a hotel registered in my name just a week before our wedding. Even when I walked in on him screwing another woman, he faced me without a hint of guilt. Such behavior was nothing less than an insult to me. Upon hearing his words, I merely smiled faintly. Did he think I coveted the position of his wife? I took the wedding ring out of my handbag and placed it in front of him.

"Since that's the case, I don't want to marry you anymore. Here, take back your ring."

Luke took the box from my hand with a scoff.

"Jan, I already told you. What happened between her and me was just a one-night stand. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?"

"Do you mean I’m making a big deal out of nothing?"

He seemed completely unaware of his mistake. At this point, I no longer wanted to continue this nauseating conversation.

"Luke, the wedding will be called off. From today forward, we have nothing to do with each other."

His expression, indifferent until now, finally changed.

"Jan, don't push me."

The woman in the bed, sensing the tension between us, very "kindly" chimed in as a fixer.

"Miss Bailey, most marriages in the upper class are always marriages of convenience. It's best to turn a blind eye to many things. What happened between him and me was merely physical. It’s common for men to play the field."

"As long as the person he ends up marrying is you, isn't that enough?"

"Do you really expect him to love only you?"

I looked past him at the woman who spoke so confidently.

“Birds of a feather flock together,” I thought.

Faced with these people, there really wasn't much to say.

I looked at him calmly, accepting everything as he wished, and then I turned and left.

Seeing this, Amanda spoke up,

"Mr. Smith, aren't you going to chase after your girlfriend?"

Engulfed in smoke, he was lost in the taste of nicotine, clearly addicted.

"Chase her? The wedding is already set. Could she really cancel the wedding?"

Amanda scoffed.

"Since you're so insightful, you wouldn't mind showing me that legendary ten-carat diamond ring, would you?"
