Chapter 3

The first day after signing the agreement, work came calling.

Robert took me to a charity banquet.

I'd never been fond of these social events, so I took the opportunity to sneak away while he was surrounded by people.

Just when I was praying that nothing would happen, the unexpected occurred.

"You actually followed me here."

"Michelle, have you lost your mind?"

"You love me that much to the point where you don't even care about the Jackson family's reputation?"

Adrian's repulsive voice came from the corner, and instinctively, I wanted to run away.

But he wouldn't let me go, blocking my path.

His disdainful gaze stung me as he scanned my entire body before settling on a certain spot, becoming even more intense.

"Even though you dress like this, we can never get back together."

"It's too late. I've already married Tracey. She's sweet and understanding. As for someone like you..."

Before he could finish his mocking words, I raised my glass and splashed his face with alcohol.

Amidst the gasps of surprise, I smirked and said, "You're spouting nonsense. Let me help you come to your senses."

Adrian wiped his face, looking somewhat frustrated.

"What are you pretending to be high and mighty for? When we were together, you didn't mind getting close and intimate."

"But now you’re involved with Robert, trying to please him in bed."

"Did he enjoy himself with you?"

"Do you really think Robert would be interested in you? He only sees you as a plaything."

Under the glaring lights, I smiled faintly.

In the midst of his mockery, I lifted my foot and kicked him to the ground.

When Robert was alerted to the commotion, Adrian had been beaten to a pulp.

Robert’ss bodyguards blocked everyone around us, so no one realized that it was me who created a fuss.

"It seems like the Turner family doesn't want to stay in Mesa Verde."

Amidst everyone's mocking gazes, Robert took off his suit jacket and draped it over my shoulder, his posture protective.

Being so close to him, I could clearly smell the refreshing scent of cedar on him.

The faint fragrance brought me a sense of security.

Adrian was thrown out by the banquet organizers. In the exclusive lounge, Robert and I changed into new outfits.

He stood by the large floor-to-ceiling window, gently caressing his wristwatch with his slender fingers.

Nervously clutching my skirt, I whispered, "Do we really have to dress like this?"

Isn't it inappropriate for bodyguards to wear such fancy attire?

Before I could finish my sentence, he turned around.

In the dim lighting, his eyes became even deeper and irresistibly captivating.

"You look beautiful."

He didn't answer my question but slightly bent down to brush away a strand of hair from my forehead.

By the time we went out, the banquet had reached its climax.

Countless spotlights shone upon us.

Robert calmly held my hand as we stood at the center.

He never let go until the end of the banquet.

That night, we once again became the talk of the town.

Afterwards, no matter what event it was, Robert always had me by his side.

Our figures constantly graced major media outlets.

When our appearance at another party became a trending topic again, I couldn't help but click on a few sets of photos.

In the crowded banquet hall, Robert wore his slim-fit black suit.

From the angle of the shot, he slightly bent his arm to protect me by his side.

I wore an exquisite white designer gown with a dazzling diamond necklace around my neck.

There were many comments from netizens below.

But one comment stood out and stirred my emotions.

"Doesn't anyone think they're a perfect match?"

"But doesn't Mr. Springer have a fiancée?"
