Let’s Do This

Kayla’s POV

“Harder! Go harder!” David cheered me on. We had already started working and had been on it since two hours ago.

I had done a running exercise on the Treadmill and now it was time to do squats. He instructed me to do thirty squats which I had done twenty of them and now it was getting tougher completing it.

My phone chimed and I got curious about what notification it was that had entered. Since David got me the new phone, I had never received a call from anyone because I literally had no one to talk to but then I had signed in again to all my social accounts, getting the latest news from old friends and the internet.

I grabbed my phone which I placed on one of the gym equipment. Switching to data mode, I decided to check the notification from Instagram, and behold, it was what I never expected to see.

“Are you okay?” David asked. He must have seen how surprised and attacked I had felt.

“I am fine,” I lied, tossing my phone away.

David reached out for my phone, unlocking it. It surprised me a little because I didn’t let him know my passcode but then it was on the list of the tiniest things I needed to worry about at that moment.

“Sht!” He cussed.

He rushed over to me, placing his hand on my shoulder. “Are you okay, Kayla?”

I dropped the dumbbells in my hand on the floor, settling down. “I’m fine, David,” I replied, feigning a smile.

“You still love him,” he blurted out

“No, I don’t,” I lied

“You do, that’s why you’re hurt that his marriage with Caitlyn is happening and it’s happening today of all days,” he said

“What about today?” I asked, confused.

“Your third anniversary,” he replied

I glared at him. “How do you know that?” I queried

“Let’s just say I made a research,” he answered

“He didn’t have to treat me this way,” I sobbed

He enclosed the distance between us, wiping my eyes of tears. “I know, Kayla, and trust me, it is his loss,” he comforted

“I feel so stupid,” I said

“You don’t have to. Everything you did was out of love. You don’t have to regret giving your all. I’m very sure you would find someone who would love genuinely you regardless of what and who you are,”

“Also, this should be a motivation to you, Kayla. Get your old self back and show them why they shouldn’t have messed with you in the first place,” he concluded

I nodded in agreement, wiping my tears away. I stood up instantly, with my arms open inviting him for a hug but he scrunched up his nose and moved a bit away from me.

“Right,” I smirked, realizing how sweaty I was.

“Continue!” He instructed

Fueled by rage and determination, I proceeded to do my squats nonstop. I completed the ten squats mapped out for me and moved on to another level of workout. In no time, I was done for the day and headed to my room to freshen up.

Thirty minutes later, I got out of the shower, had my meal, and got ready for a meeting with David. He was going to tell me about his case and how I would take on it from henceforth.

“She filed a lawsuit against me for disagreeing to marry her,” he said

“That’s ridiculous,” I said, chuckling.

“I know it is. Just find a way to settle the case. I can’t marry her,” he replied, sounding a bit serious

“Why, if I may ask?” I queried

“She’s a gold digger,” he replied, making me burst into laughter.

Did he say gold digger? It’s always the ones with no gold, calling women gold diggers. I mean, he literally had nothing on him. If calling his ex a gold digger is fueled by this tiny White House over his head, then he must be joking. He was just an average citizen just like me. Although Gary and Lumen who were always with him, according to utmost respect to him, seemed quite suspicious but then he wasn’t that rich.

“You need to relax, David,” I said amidst laughter

He smiled heartily, shrugging his shoulders. He probably knew I had just rated him.

“I will need to write to the court in charge for the transfer of the case to the court here in this country and city, New Vape City while I represent you as my client,” I said

“Do whatever you want to do, Kayla. I just need to clear my name and live in peace,” he said

“Alright then,” I replied

“So, this…”

A call arrived on his phone, interrupting my next statement. He grabbed his phone, looking at his screen, his face went emotionless and I couldn’t help but wonder whose call was it.

“Hello,” he said firmly

“What?! No, I’ll come find you instead!” He said urgently

The caller said something too which I struggled to comprehend

“Fine! I’ll be there!” He replied, jolting up from the sofa and heading towards his room.

I sat there confused, thinking about what just happened and who was it that called him. Was he in trouble?
