It’s a Deal

Kayla’s POV

He walked towards me, hanging his arm on my shoulder.

“Babe, do you mind introducing me or should I do it?” He asked.

I looked at him in disarray, confused at exactly what was going on. He quacked me a little, pulling me out of my trance.

“Right,” I said, wiping my tears away.

“Eric, Caitlyn, this is my boyfriend, David,” then I gazed at David, “David, this is my ex-husband and his fiancé, Caitlyn,”

He was shocked. He looked at me in astonishment as if trying to figure out what exactly was going on but then he held himself together.

“Oh,” he continued, “This is the empty head that you told me about that treated you like trash? Oh my, his loss,” he said.

Eric clenched his hand into a fist, trying to go physical at the fact that he was referred to as an empty head.

“Eric, don’t. He’s not worth it,” Caitlyn said to Eric, rolling her eyes at me.

“Let me warn you, if you ever come close to Kayla, I’ll have you rot behind bars with your family having no trace of you,” he said, glaring at Eric.

Then he turned to me, “Let’s get you home, babe,” he said, leading the way.

While we walked towards the exit, I could feel the burning eyes of Eric and Caitlyn on us. I was very sure Eric would be wondering how I managed to get hold of a man as handsome as David. With the way I looked, my weight, and everything, he would be so sure that I wouldn’t dare to land an ugly man not to talk of a handsome man like David who looked rich.

“What was that all about?” I queried, settling into the passenger seat.

“You’re welcome,” he said, turning his face away.

“Oh, ummm. Thank you but you didn’t have to put up that stunt,” I said

“Well, the stunt saved you from embarrassment. You should learn how to show appreciation, it helps,” he said firmly

I nodded my head in agreement, realizing all I needed to do was to show appreciation first. “Thank you,” I mumbled.

“So, it’s the deal still up?” He asked

“What do you think?” I asked

“Firstly, you never told me about an ex-husband named Eric,”

“Well, you never gave me a listening ear. You sent me away without even giving a listening ear to the reason why I wanted a deal with you,”

“Okay, enough of the blame. So, do you mind telling me now?”

“Under one condition,” I said, turning my face away

“What condition?” He asked, furrowing his brows

“The deal. Are you in or out?” I asked

“What do you think?” He queried

“I’m in. If you’re truly an attorney, I would need you to handle my case,”

“Fine, we have a deal then,” I acknowledged

He ignited the car engine, revving nonstop on the road.

“He divorced me because I refused to go to jail on behalf of his brother who committed a crime of fund embezzlement and of course, how I look,” I said, breaking the silence.

He matched the brake abruptly, causing me to almost jump out of my seat but thankfully, I had seatbelts on.

“What?! That’s so stupid! It makes no sense!” He exclaimed

The whole divorce scene played in my head instantly, causing my eyes to grow misty. I cleaned my tears with my index finger, putting myself together.

“I’m sorry I brought it up,” David said

I turned to him, “It’s fine. And thank you for agreeing to this,” I said, feeling a glimmer of hope.

He stretched his hand and placed it on my shoulder, patting it.

A few minutes later, he pulled over in front of a boutique. “Let’s get you some wear,” he said

Like a loyal disciple, I trailed behind him while he entered the entrance. The shop attendant approached us immediately, providing everything that we wanted. David got me a few dresses and underwear coupled with footwear. He made payment immediately, and we left.

Arriving at David’s house, we drove in, packing the car at the garage. It was a modern White House. The house was pristine and minimalist, with large windows and sleek lines.

We walked in and were greeted by his two side kicks Lumen and Gary, alongside the housekeeper Freda.

“Freda, take these things to her room,” he ordered. Freda bowed a little, showing a sign of respect before walking away.

He turned to his sidekicks, “Gary, Lumen. This is Kayla. She would be staying with us till further notice. We have a project at hand that would warrant her to be here,”

“Okay, sir,” they replied in unison.

Lumen walked out immediately by Gary hesitated a bit before leaving the living room then David turned his attention to me.

“Kayla, I’ll have the housekeeper send you a food timetable. Don’t go against the rules and eat something you’re not supposed to it. In as much as you’d get your former self mostly by working out, you also need to watch what you eat. Is that understood?” He…

I stood there, watching his lips open and close in slow motion. His Adam’s apple, moving from upward to downward, looks very much enticing. I began to imagine what it’d feel like to have a taste of his lips or what it’d feel like to caress his Adam’s apple while he spoke.

“Kayla?!” He called out

“Sht, I’m sorry,” I cussed, realizing I had been out and lost in my imagination for a while.

“Did you hear all that I said?” He asked

“Ummmm,” I stammered “Yes, I did,” I replied through my teeth

“The room where you found yourself the first time you got here is your room. Make yourself comfortable,” he concluded, walking away.

I stood there, watching him walk away while I soaked myself in an ocean of admiration for him.
