CHAPTER TWO

Alfred's POV

The morning dew on the grass seemed to sparkle in the sunlight and I felt the warmth of the sun from my face. I rubbed my hands on my face as I sat on the bed. I stretched my arms and I yawned before getting up from the bed. I could feel the brightness of the day when I walked to my window and peeped out of the window to look at the world with a beautiful smile.

I checked on my wall clock and it was a few minutes to seven o'clock. I walked into my bathroom to take my bath. I was still in there when I heard my father's voice from the door.

“Alfred! Are you up?” He asked before letting himself into the room.

“I'm having my bath dad.” I responded.

“Good. Breakfast is ready, come downstairs when you're done before you leave for the airport.” He said, before walking out of my room.

I walked out from the bathroom and picked up my cloth from where it's hung and I put it on and continued my dressing. After dressing, I picked up my tablet and walked out of my room, heading to the dining room. The meals are already set and I picked up my fork and knife as I started eating my food. I dropped the cutlery when I'm filled up and stood up from the dinning, walking towards the living room where my father is seated.

“Dad, I'm ready.” I said, sitting beside him.

“Iris, go into Alfred's room and bring his luggage.” He said, before looking back at me.

“Daniella will be waiting for you at the airport when you get to England. I've called her already.” He said, faking a smile.

“And also, Daniella already has your contact and she'll call you when your flight lands so that you won't miss each other.”

“Okay dad.” I said, hugging him.

I stood up and my father followed me as we walked to the car. Iris brought out two big boxes and it was dropped in the booth while dad and I entered the car. The driver ignited the engine and zoomed off to the airport that's fifteen minutes away from our house.

We got to the airport and dad and I got out of the car while the driver carried the boxes after us as we walked into the airport. It was already time for my flight. The driver carried the boxes to where it should be while I stood still with my dad still holding my hand. I've never been separated from my father or mother ever since I was born.

“It's time to go, Alfred.” He said, fighting back tears.

“I'll miss you.” I said, holding his legs as he rubbed my hair with his hands.

“Don't stress Aunty Daniella, huh?” He said, smiling.

“I won't stress.” I responded, smiling back at him.

I walked towards the plane, looking back at my father. I entered the plane and looked for my seat number before one of the attendants called me and showed me my seat. I sat down and my seat belt was fastened as I looked out of the window to see the environment.

The plane finally took off and I was excited with the view I'm getting. The thought of my father's look when I was leaving clouded my mind. Was he sad? Doesn't he want me to leave? Different questions kept running through my head.

Everyone in the plane seems to have a different problem or the other they're battling with and no one was talking to another. That was when I remembered that everyone is going for their businesses, honeymoons or holidays.

I sat down quietly in the plane holding my tablet that I already switched off before the journey began. After the long hour flight, we finally got to England and we all got down from the plane while one of the attendants helped me to bring down my boxes and walked me to the waiting room where I switched on my phone.

Daniella's call welcomed my phone immediately I switched it on and I picked it up immediately.

“Hi, Alfred. Where are you?” Her voice sounded from the other side of the call

“I'm in the waiting room.” I responded and she hung up.

In less than five minutes, she showed up in front of me with a broad smile on her face as she called my name.

“Alfred!” she called out.

“Aunty Daniella.” I responded, standing up from where I was sitting to embrace her.

“How was the journey,my boy?” She responded, carrying my boxes.

“It was boring and tiring.” I responded.

She replied to me with a smile plastered on her face as she walked out of the waiting room and I followed her. We got out of the airport and the sun was already setting.

“Here.” She said, pointing to the car parked in front of us.

I entered the car and she entered beside me and the driver zoomed off. It was my second time in England,my first time was with my parents when we came for the holiday.

“I hope to find it interesting here without mum and dad.” I said, breaking the silence.

“Don't worry. I'm here to take care of you like your parents. You don't have to worry.” She responded, smiling.

We got to the mansion which reminded me of my previous visit with my parents. I smiled when the car stopped at the parking lot and I got down from the car and headed into the house.

“Aunty Daniella, will you show me my mum tonight?” I asked her excitedly, looking back at her as she followed me with the boxes she was carrying.

“That's not a problem, let go inside and eat , first.” She said and I entered the house and laid down on the couch trying to rest.

The journey was a stressful and tiring one for me and my stomach has been churning in hunger for a while. I held my tablet and scrolled through it to call my father. I called him and he picked up at once.

“Hi, Alfred. How was your journey to England?” He asked.

“It was stressful dad, my body aches.” I responded.

“Talk to Daniella about it,she will help you out on that.” He said, calmly.

“Alright dad.” I said before I hung up and tossed the phone to the closer couch.

I was about to sleep off on the couch when Aunty Daniella came out of the kitchen and get the dinner set.

“Alfred! Food is ready.” She called out on me.

I reluctantly got up from the couch and walked towards the dinning. I was so tired. I got to the dinning and sat down on the chair, I picked up my cutlery and began to eat. The meal was so delicious and I enjoyed it. I finished it all and got up from the chair and headed directly into my room, picking up my tablet on the way.

I entered my room and I could notice the changes in the furniture and the decorations. It was different and more advanced than the previous ones. I jumped into the bed and slept off.

Twelve years later.

I woke up to a beautiful gift beside my bed. I got up from the bed and got closer to it when I saw a card on it with the inscription “Happy twenty second birthday to you, son.” I let out a satisfactory smile. My father has never missed a birthday of mine without gifts and a card ever since I left Asia.

I walked into my bathroom and brushed my teeth and took my bath. I left the bathroom and dressed up with happiness clouding my heart. I sprinted out of my room, downstairs wanting to have my breakfast. My joy knew no bounds when I saw my father sitting down in the living room.

“Dad!” I called out, surprisingly.

“Happy birthday, Alfred.” He responded, smiling.

“It's good to see you again.” I said, as I ran to meet him where he was seated and hugged him.

I've never seen my father since I left home at age ten. We often speak on the phone which makes it less worrisome. I remembered him telling me ten years ago that he got married to another woman and she's given birth to a son for him. I've never seen or talked to the woman nor her son before but dad always told me they're fine. I've been working as the CEO of JK group's branch here in England since I was 20 after my graduation from the university.

“When are you leaving?” I asked.

“I'm leaving in two days time with you.” He responded.

“Me? How? What about the company?” I asked, terrified.

“I only allowed you to work here because I wanted to see your ability in management and I'm satisfied with your abilities.” He said, smiling.

“So?” I asked, confusingly.

“I'll be stepping down as the CEO of JK groups of companies and you'll be taking over immediately.” He said.

“But, what about the company here?” I asked.

“Hardin will be in charge.” He responded.

Hardin is the vice president of the company in England and I'm glad he is the chosen one. My father and I left England the third day and moved back to Asia.
