Chapter 3

She forced down the urge to laugh out loud in the face of her sighing uncle, a crying Riley, and a well-behaved Ella.

Without skipping a beat, he said, "Uncle's color looks good, not like he's sick.

Could the doctor have made a mistake and mistakenly put the results of a human test on the uncle's head? How about this? Tomorrow, I'll take Uncle to the hospital for a new checkup; uremia is not a small disease after all, and casually replacing a kidney before a formal checkup will kill you."

The Mateo family seemed to not expect her to say something like that and froze a little for a moment.

What surprised them most was that once upon a time, Evelyn was so clumsy and goofy that she would nod and believe anything they said.

And Evelyn, at that moment, though only a girl of twenty-three, blossomed with a hostility and composure that one would not dare to underestimate.

Are their eyes blurry? Evelyn, today, has really changed a lot from how she used to.

The leader, Ella, changed her usual docile and introverted demeanor and suddenly stood up, shouting with a sharp voice: "It's not enough for us to suffer once. Do you want us to suffer a second time?

Evelyn, don't be ungrateful. If my father hadn't taken pity on you and brought you into the house and fed you, do you think you'd be living like a lady now?

Now that my father is seriously ill and only wants to use the land in your hands to save his life, you are so nagging and reluctant. Do you still have a conscience?"

Evelyn said with a grimace, "If uncle really needs this money urgently for his illness, why doesn't he resell the house he's living in now?

If I remember correctly, Uncle still has an old house on Oak Street, and at today's estimated market value, that house would cost absolutely twice as much as the lot Mom left me."

Hearing this, Riley suddenly snapped, "After all that, you just won't help?"

"I can't find a reason why I have to do this favor."

Mateo was angry too, "Evelyn, don't forget I'm your uncle. Even for the sake of your father, you can't ......".

"If uncle really thought of me as your niece, he wouldn't have stood by and watched the bank take my family's house. And don't forget, uncle, that the reason my father mortgaged his house to the bank was for the company, not himself."

"Hmph, Evelyn, your father had a gambling debt back in the day, and if I hadn't helped him pay it off, he would have been stabbed to death."

Evelyn grunted, "When my father went to that disreputable private casino, it was you yourself, Uncle, who took him there."

Mateo said angrily, "What do you mean by that?"

Did his brother mention it to Evelyn before he died?

"Don't you know in your heart what I mean, uncle?"

"You ......"

Mateo probably didn't expect his niece, who had always been gentle and kind, to become so spirited and sharp, and he covered his chest and coughed hard.

Hatefully pointing at her, he said, "Our family is too small to keep you. From now on, you are not my niece, and I am not your uncle, so go as far away as you ...... can."

Evelyn is eventually kicked out of the house by her uncle's family.

Although the time was a year earlier than in the previous life, the end was exactly the same as in the previous life.

Luckily, her good friend Luna reached out to her when she had no one else to turn to.

Luna is a classmate she met in college, and although they chose different majors, they became good friends by chance.

Her father died when she was very young, her mother is in poor health and is always bedridden, and on top of that, she has a younger brother who is in high school.

In order to survive, she had to work several consecutive jobs every summer, but Luna grew up optimistic and was never heard to complain, even when she was exhausted by all the work.

She once said that no matter how hard it was, as long as her family was healthy and safe, she was happier than anything else.

Learning that she was homeless, Luna didn't say a word and immediately helped her rent a one-bedroom suite in a residential neighborhood near her home.

The reason why I would rent my house here is that, on the one hand, the two families are close to each other, so in case Evelyn has an accident, she can be there in time within five minutes with just a phone call; on the other hand, and of course, the most important point, the rental license of the house here is much cheaper than the other places.

Evelyn is now a poor student, with only eight thousand dollars in all her possessions, when she is kicked out of her home by her uncle.

The landlady was a good talker, and knowing her limited financial situation, she agreed that she could pay no deposit.

Luna accompanied her to the supermarket to buy some simple necessities in her busy schedule, and after tossing and turning all day, it was already completely dark.

In the evening, the two snuggle up for dinner in their newly rented tiny house.

Halfway through the meal, Luna suddenly raised her head, "If I remember correctly, you had submitted your resume to the Theo Group before, and it seems like they promised you that they would hire you to become an employee under their banner before you officially received your graduation certificate and that after you passed the test, you would have the chance to become an official employee of the company."

Theo Group is a very well-known public company with a wide range of operations and a golden opportunity for college students to compete for entry-level jobs after graduation.

Evelyn, who is majoring in business management, showed Theo a resume with a try-hard attitude; she didn't expect to hear back from the other side a few days later and hoped to formally go to Theo for an interview after graduation.

"I had that job overturned the other day."

"Huh?"

Luna was taken aback, "Theo's got a great deal ......"

"But the environment there may not suit me."

What she can't get over is that Theo has two other people on his team who make her cringe, Ella and Asher.

In a previous life, she and Asher had first met during a new employee orientation.

Asher is her examiner, with handsome features, tall stature, and a good sense of humor; he is simply the Prince Charming that the female employees of Theo Group dream of.

She doesn't want to see Asher again or have anything to do with the man who makes her feel sick, so the first thing she does, when she's reborn, is to completely exclude the Theo Group from her world.

"Evelyn, I think you've changed."

"Hmm?"

Luna coughed softly, "I mean, you seem to have gotten quieter and more composed than before. Uh ...... I can't tell you exactly what's different, anyway, right? Now you strike me as a little too calm ......".

Evelyn smiled and shrugged, "Maybe it has something to do with my recent experiences.
