Chapter 7 The Anonymous Text

Aiden's POV

"I...I..my things are in the luggage. I forgot to pick a dress before going in." Adeline mentioned, her eyes fixed to the floor.

Does she even know how I feel right now? My eyes moved from her legs, trailing up to her pretty face. Though it was filled with scars which was obviously from beating, Adeline still looked beautiful nonetheless.

"Your family hates you don't they? Who gave you those scars?" I asked, quite concerned.

She sighed deeply before answering my question. "I...I often get published by my parents and my sister, even my mom had scourged me many times."

My gaze lingered on her before I sat on the sofa, crossing my legs. I think I'm getting too concerned about Adeline. I don't want to make her think I'm growing feelings for her.

We are just a couple and I want to strings attached. Absolutely... no.. nothing. Yes, nothing!

"Then pick up a dress and get going." I told her, looking away though stealing glances at her. Adeline... you're killing me slowly.

"Yes."

"Yes what?"

"You just called me." She said and I quickly looked away. Did I call her name out loud?

"I just wanted to tell you to be careful." I lied though what I had in mind was to warn her about driving me crazier.

She furrowed her brows as she seemed confused by my words. "C.. careful?"

I nodded. "Yeah, careful. Home accident is getting rampant nowadays and even bathroom tiles are slippery."

She seemed to be getting more confused but nodded in agreement and moved to pick a dress for herself.

"Are you going to put that on?" I pointed at the torn cloth in her hands. Like hell! Does her family treat her this badly?

"This is one of my best wears." She smiled, raising the dress up a little. I chuckled dryly, was this really a cloth? Literally, it was nothing but a rag.

If a blind man like me could notice the holes in her clothes, I'm sure it would be more visible to them.

"This is no good cloth, Adeline." I shook my head, tossing the dress aside. "Besides, a dress isn't something you wear to sleep."

"Well, I'm not sleeping yet. I have to prepare dinner for you and treat your wound." She said, trying to touch my head but I moved away.

"No touching!" I raised a finger, taking my seat again then I felt a sharp pain in my head. Wincing, I held my head trying to shake off the migraine but it seemed impossible.

"What's wrong?" Adeline asked, her voice filled with worry as she came close to me.

"I said no touching! I'm fine" I grabbed her arm but she didn't agree with me this time.

"You can't tell me you're okay. Where the first aid box, do you have one?"

Eventually, I ended up giving in and pointing at the spot where the box was placed. She emptied the contents in if and I watched as she treats the wound on my head professionally.

She was perfect doing this and I couldn't help but wonder where she learnt it from.

"Ow!!" I closed my eyes and groaned throwing my head backwards as the pain from the ointment stung me.

"Sorry, sorry. You can pull my cloth if hold me if the pain is too much. Trust me it helps to endure the pain during treatment." Adeline flashed me a smile, applying the ointment once again.

Even though I felt pain, I winced inwardly and didn't show it. I have to make Adeline believe I'm strong and not a lad who cringed just at the mention of a pain relief. Hell, I don't even know why I'm trying to impress her.

"It's all done." She patted me on the shoulder before putting the box back on place. "I'll go dress up now and when I'm back, will get you something to eat."

I took a grip of her waist as she tried to leave and pulled her closer to me. This action made both of us fall on the bed and she was on top of me, our gaze locked together.

Trust me, it wasn't intentional. I only wanted to stop her. But...wait...why did I pull her waist and do you even believe letting her lie on top of me wasn't on intention? Truth being said, I'm GOING CRAZY!

"Ai...Aiden?" Adeline's brows were widened as she felt my heavy body on hers. I tucked the strands of her hair behind her ear to have a better view of her fine face.

I moved my lips closer to her face and I could feel her cringing beneath me. What was she thinking? That I would kiss her?

"What about dinner?" I asked, whispering into her ear. She let out a sigh of relief and pushed me away, running out of the room.

I grinned, sitting upright. It feels so good teasing Adeline. She just left but I'm missing her already, I waited for minutes but she wasn't back yet.

I frowned as my instincts alerted me. Did she get into trouble again? Just as I was about to go out of the room, she walked in, holding a tray.

"Here's your dinner." She said, placing it on the stool, beside the bed.

"What took you so long?" I asked, taking my seat.

"S..sorry, I...I..." She kept stuttering and I looked up.

"Why do you always stutter? Do I scare you?" I had to inquire.

She quickly shook her head, flashing me am apologetic smile. "I just hope I get away with this. Forgive me for not bringing your meal on time."

What? Why does she think there was a punishment for everything she does?

I stared at the plates on the tray. There was only one there, didn't she prepare hers too?

"Are you going to sleep on an empty stomach?"

"I..I.. I'm used to it. Going on an hunger strike is my thing and even though I'm hungry, there'd be no food for me."

"Uh?" I raised my brows, quite surprised. She covered her mouth with her palm, I guess she said didn't say that on purpose. I could say her family are so cruel.

Well, when mom and dad were still alive, dad always acted indifferently towards me and treated me like garbage sometimes. Mom always stood by my side and convince my father on taking it easy on me.

I took up the post of the CEO even though I wasn't interested in the family's business. I just wanted to impress my father and do everything to be a better son.

I don't even know why I feel sympathy towards Adeline, she had been through alot in her life and I could tell. Only if the Moon Goddess could show me some mercy and revoke the curse being placed on me; I wanted her to live a better life, one free of troubles.

"We can share mine." I told her and she declined immediately. "You don't have a choice, let's eat." After hesitating for a while, she sat beside and we ate together.

Scooping a spoon of the meal she made I nibbled on it with relish..wow.

This was the best meal I've ever had, this tasted exactly like my mom's.

After eating, we went to bed and in the middle of the night, I woke up due to the incessant headache I was feeling. I reached for the pain relievers in the drawer and took some pills.

I stood up, striding towards the window. Looking at the moon makes me feel better; it's shining light gives me hope– hope that the Moon Goddess would surely break this curse off me.

I was almost going back to bed when my eyes caught something on the window. I frowned, picking it up. It was a letter and I tore the envelope apart.

'Meet me at the Creek, tomorrow midnight unfailingly.' It read.

I was thrown into a fit of confusion. Was this letter for me? Who dropped it here and what business does the anonymous person has with me?
