Adeline's POV
I could see the look on Aiden's face, I know he doesn't believe me. Even though my life wasn't a so good example, I hated to see others in distress. And for Aiden, it was the same cause I really feel bad for him.
Aiden chuckled, running his hands through his long brown hair. "What are you talking about, young lady? How do you know I can be healed? I've gone to many standard hospitals and the doctors keep saying there's no solution."
I shook my head, taking his hands in mine. "Don't be pessimistic, Aiden."
"I've told you to maintain your distance with me, didn't I?"
Aiden's expression was cold and menacing so to avoid trouble, I obeyed him. I don't know why, but I feel drawn to him. I feel the urge to console him, stay by his side and most especially, help him with seeing again.
But how? My eyes lit up when an idea came to my mind.
"Aiden, we can visit another optician. A different hospital."
"They all want to help at first but always end up disappointing me. I doubt if there's a cure to my aliment." He said.
I furrowed my brows, keeping quiet for a while as I was deep in thought. I have a feeling that there's something fishy about this whole thing.
From the look of things, it's clear his family doesn't like him and I wonder if they're behind the doctor's refusal to help. But I don't want to jump into a conclusion, Aiden might not like it.
I looked towards the direction of the door when I heard a knock.
"It's Nora, dinner is ready. And uncle Thane wants you and Mr Albert downstairs." She announced.
"Alright Nora, we'll be joining him soon."
She nodded and left. I turned to look at Aiden who shook his head.
"You can go alone. I'm not hungry." He told me.
"Are you sure you're not?" I asked and the glare he gave me said it all. It was enough to tell me he wasn't interested in eating.
"I'll leave now then." I said and left the room.
I met Hudson at the hallway, he was lurking to a corner and I wonder if he was waiting for me to come out. Wait, why was he coming close to me?
I took a few steps backwards and when I tripped I expected to fall to the floor but... this place was warm and I could perceive a familiar scent. I opened my eyes and realised I was in Aiden's arms.
A smile crept onto my face. Thank God, he came to rescue me from this beast of a guy. I owe him one for this.
I stood straight and hid beside him, to prevent Hudson from getting to me.
"I'm aware of everything you did in the morning, Hudson." Aiden said and his words got me surprised. He was there when Hudson was harassing me? I never took note of that.
Hudson snorted. "For the past one year you've always stayed in your room so what changed now?" He waved his hands as if to shoo him away like a fly. "Return blind man, return to your place!"
"You've always been a shameless guy and I didn't expect much from you. If you were in your right senses you should've realised that Adeline is my wife, and you have no right to harass or mistreat her!"
I'm so surprised that Aiden in his situation would actually defend me, I didn't expect him to do so.
Hudson bursted into laughter and flashed a death glare at him. "I'm amused by your courage, Aiden. I must say you're a very extraordinary blind man! Gosh, you deserve a round of applause!" He clapped and I know he was simply mocking him.
I could see Aiden's vein rise and I knew right away that Hudson's words had gotten him angry. He made to punch him on the face but I stopped him.
"Spare him, Aiden. Please…"
"Are you afraid your husband might get hurt? Leave him, Adeline. Let him come for me!" Hudson yelled.
Heavens, this guy. I'm concerned about Aiden getting hurt but I also doubt Hudson wouldn't get the best of beating too. Looking at the rage on Aiden's face, it was obvious he was ready to teach him a lesson.
Aiden pointed at him. "Stay away from Adeline if you love your life!" He warned.
"Alright, alright. Let's do it this way, blind man." Hudson said, snapping his fingers. "Let's do it this way." He moved closer and I clutch tightly onto Aiden who wasn't intimidated by Hudson at all.
"Let's have a fight together and if I win, I get to spend a night with Adeline." Hudson proposed.
I shook my head. No, Aiden shouldn't accept this challenge. I don't want anything to happen to him. What if he miscalculate his steps and hurt himself or something even worse?
Aiden turned to look at me. "Don't do that, Aiden. Let's leave now." I tried to pull him away but he slapped my hands off.
"You're afraid I might lose to him, right Adeline? You also don't believe in me?" Aiden asked, his brows knitted together.
"No Aiden, I do. Just walk away this time around. Don't..do it!"
Aiden didn't listen to me. He accepted the challenge and I watched them engage in a fight together. I stood fixed to a spot, my face wet with tears.
I prayed silently in my heart for Aiden to defeat Hudson and mostly for his safety. He shouldn't get himself injured because of me.
Hudson tried to give Aiden a punch on the face but he ducked it. Hudson had sustained a lot of injuries and I'm getting worried. Uncle Thane wouldn't be happy if he gets to know about their fight and might make a fuss out of it, I was sure of that.
Aiden twisted Hudson's left arm backwards and he groaned in pain. I tried to intervene but Aiden warned me to stay away.
Hudson fell to the floor, blood prickling from the corner of his mouth. I knew he deserved it but this punishment is rather too much. I wonder what the others would say about this.
Well I was proud of Aiden and I must say he's a brave man. As I stared at Hudson's bruised body lying on the floor, I remembered Sienna.
She attends the same school with Eva and I. She was my friend, the only one I talked to, the single person who stood for me when people made me a subject of ridicule. But I feel guilty, because her likeness for me got her expelled from school.
That fateful day, Eva and her friends came to bully me like always and Sienna fought for me, beating up everyone of them.
Eva made a report to our parents and I was severely punished. Since my family often contributed funds to the school's growth, the school's principal didn't hesitate to succumb to my parents orders when they ordered Sienna to be sent out of the school, complaining that she was a threat to their precious daughter.
I really miss Sienna.
"Thanks for defending me, Aiden." I expressed my gratitude and he nodded.
"Do your best to avoid Hudson, he's dangerous than you can ever think." Aiden warned.
I guessed I was right when I thought Aiden's family dislikes him. We were almost heading to the living room when Aiden groaned loudly and fell to the floor. Hudson had hit him with a flower vase.
I widened my brow in shock as I bent, shaking him vigorously. I looked at Hudson who was standing with a devilish grin on his face.
"Why did you do this!" I screamed, crying profusely.
He smirked and pulled me up, scooping me into his arms. "I'm so interested in fucking you, Adeline. Now that I've defeated your husband, I won the challenge and you're mine tonight." He whispered into my ear licking his lips.
I quavered, trying to wriggle out of his arms but my efforts were futile. He headed towards his room, staring at me greedily and I knew he couldn't wait to devour me.
What would become of me tonight?
I turned back to look at Aiden who was lying lifelessly on the cold floor.
What has happened to him? Is he dead?
I scolded myself, I'm just bad luck. If not for me this wouldn't have happened.
What do I do now?
