Chapter 11 Precious Things

Suddenly, a voice rang out, startling Freya Stone. When she turned around, she accidentally knocked a box off the shelf with a loud crash.

Elijah glared at her, his expression filled with intense anger, making him look extremely menacing.

"I-I didn't mean to..." Freya hurriedly explained.

As she crouched down to pick up the fallen box, her fingers were suddenly gripped, the force almost crushing her hand.

Her hand felt like it was being snapped in two, the intense pain causing cold sweat to break out. Elijah's pupils constricted, bloodshot eyes filled with uncontrollable rage. "Get your filthy hands off!"

As he spoke, he forcefully threw her aside. Freya Stone, caught off guard, tumbled backward, her head hitting the corner of a cabinet. The piercing pain left her momentarily numb. As she touched the back of her neck, she felt a sticky warmth. Not surprisingly, it was blood, but not much.

Raising her eyes through disheveled hair, she saw Elijah carefully picking up the box. Even through his actions, she could sense the importance of the contents. Elijah opened the box, inspecting its contents with great care. Fortunately, the protective box prevented any damage to the precious item inside. He breathed a sigh of relief.

But the thought of this woman nearly shattering the item filled him with burning anger. He shot her a cold glance, eyes filled with a crimson, bloodthirsty rage. "Freya Stone, it seems like you're tired of living!?"

Freya struggled to stand. The numbness had passed, replaced by intense pain that made her tremble. She managed to get up, apologizing, "I-I'm sorry."

She could tell that whatever was in the box meant a lot to Elijah.

"Sorry? Do you think I'll accept that?"

This woman not only lacked shame but was also audacious!

He approached, his oppressive aura making Freya retreat, her back hitting the wall with a loud bang. She stammered, "Don't come any closer."

Elijah seized her jaw with a powerful grip, the force almost crushing her bones. But she couldn’t make any voice due to the scorching pain; she could only stare at him, her eyes full of fear. Elijah Silverton like this was truly terrifying.

He seemed like a demon emerging from hell, so furious and savage!

He leaned in, the intense aura of aggression enveloping her. She resisted, but couldn't fight back, forced to endure as his lips approached her ear. "I will destroy everything you care about!"

In the last two words, he emphasized his tone.

She shivered uncontrollably.

Elijah released her.

Her body felt like that of a boneless doll, slanting to the side. If there wasn't a wall supporting her, she would have fallen to the ground. She struggled to stand, but her body couldn't move away from the wall. Without anything to support her, she couldn't stand.

Elijah placed the box back in its original position. Next to it was a picture frame containing a family portrait of him and his parents.

Freya Stone, with a quick glance, noticed something familiar in the box. Before she could examine it closely, she got reproached again.

"Get out of here!"

Freya didn't have time to explore; she hurriedly reached for the doorknob. She dared not linger in the room, uncertain if staying would lead to Elijah killing her. She left the room in a swift escape.

As she was leaving the room, Elijah's cold expression finally showed a hint of softness as he gazed at the item inside the box.

After his parents passed away, his heart grew cold. The owner of this thing became the last hint of warmth in his heart. Even after more than a decade, he still remembered that small body, determinedly pulling him along, and those clear eyes, the purest he had ever seen.

In the water, her body felt so warm, bringing a trace of warmth to his icy heart.

Outside the room:

Freya Stone, holding her injured head, was discovered by Jack Silverton when he arrived. Seeing her pale face, he asked, "How did you get hurt?"

"I got a little hurt." She replied softly.

Jack Silverton's face darkened. He knew Elijah had a bad temper, but could he really have resorted to hitting a woman?

"What happened?" the old man asked.

"I accidentally knocked off a box." Freya Stone explained.

"Was it the one placed next to the family portrait?" The old man asked quickly.

Freya nodded, "Yes."

Jack Silverton immediately understood, sighing deeply. "I might not be able to protect you in this matter. That thing is very important to him, and even I dare not touch it lightly."

Freya realized that Elijah placed that item and his parents' photo together. It showed its significance in his heart.

Once, she also had something precious but lost it. It was the first birthday gift from her grandfather. She vividly remembered how she lost it. At the age of seven, her grandfather took her to the old mansion of the Silverton family. Back then, she didn't fully understand things and only knew that the Silverton family was holding a funeral. She wasn't aware of whose funeral it was until she grew up--it was Elijah's parents' funeral.

Young and carefree, she ran around the vast backyard of the Silverton family.

Behind a fake mountain, she saw a woman throwing a boy of about ten into the water. It was her first encounter with the evil side of human nature. She was terrified at that moment. Scared, she wanted to run away. But seeing the boy struggling, she bravely waited for the woman to leave and, with audacious courage, jumped into the water to save him.

Fortunately, she had learned to swim, but it was a struggle. She almost couldn't make it back up herself, and pulling the boy to the shore proved difficult. Her grandfather arrived in the nick of time, pulling both her and the boy to safety.

At that moment, the boy had already lost consciousness.

With their joint efforts, they managed to resuscitate him, and just as he was about to wake up, her grandfather hastily took her away.

Little Freya didn't understand why her grandfather was so anxious and curiously asked, "Grandpa, who is that boy? Why would someone harm him?"

Her grandfather replied, "He, like you, came to attend the funeral."

She didn't know that her grandfather hadn't told her the truth, fearing retaliation against her. He lied to her.

"You must forget what happened today, don’t tell anyone." Her grandfather repeated his instructions.

She obediently followed her grandfather's words.

When she returned home, she realized that her jade pendant was missing. It was a jade pendant with a Maitreya Buddha, and her grandfather told her that it was a symbol of blessings. He hoped she would grow up to be a compassionate, optimistic, and tolerant person. That was her grandfather's blessing. Freya had been wearing it since she was one year old.

Therefore, she understood why Elijah Silverton was angry. She didn't harbor any resentment towards his violent outburst. However, she couldn't help but feel a sense of fear for this man.

His temperament was too brutal!

"Deck, go and get Dr Russo to check on Freya." Jack Silverton ordered.

Freya Stone, hearing the voice, snapped back to reality. She hastily said, "No need, is there a medical kit at home? I can take care of it myself."

She knew her injury wasn't severe.

Seeing Jack Silverton's uncertain gaze, she assured him, "I'm a doctor myself, I know the extent of my injury."

The old man agreed as he was persuaded by her confidence.

Her injury was indeed not serious, just a small cut that was a bit deep and would bleed. Freya looked at it in the mirror and simply cleaned it. Covering the wound was not good, so she did not wrap it with gauze. The cut was in the hair and there was no way to use gauze and band-aid.

Deck, after a quick glance at the bathroom, whispered to Jack Silverton, "Sir, Madam has just entered the family, and she’s already injured under your watch. If it were somewhere other than the old mansion, would Master Elijah's treatment towards her be even more..."

He didn't finish the sentence.

However, Jack understood. "To be on the safe side, we might need to use some means if she can't endure Elijah's temper and wants a divorce."
