Chapter 10 Even the Most Stoic Has Feelings

Everyone was puzzled.

How could this be so coincidental? Did they both have urgent matters?

Liora Valentine also sensed that something was off. If she misheard earlier, what about now?

Her gaze shifted between Elijah and Freya Stone, trying to discern something.

"Do you have something urgent, Dr Stone?" she asked tentatively.

Freya Stone wanted to tell Liora Valentine that she was Elijah's wife. Then, let Elijah explain to Liora Valentine. But in reality, she couldn't dare. This man was beyond her league. She had already lost the opportunity to go to the general hospital; she couldn't afford to lose her job now. All she could do was bow her head like a quail.

"My grandfather called me back for something urgent. I can't not go back. It's just that I didn't expect Mr Silverton also had something. It's really too coincidental."

Freya forced a laugh. She wanted to bluff her way through. Elijah, however, insisted on poking holes in it. "Perfect timing. My grandfather also called me. Where does your grandfather live? I can drop you off."

The smile on Freya Stone's face was about to collapse. If it weren't for her strong self-control, she would have smashed the teacup on the table onto his smirking face.

"Mr Silverton, you must be joking. How could we be going in the same direction? I have to go now. Mr Silverton, take care." She finished and left in a hurry.

Liora Valentine felt uneasy and looked at Elijah. "Do you know Dr Stone?"

Elijah's expression was indifferent, as if the words just spoken were not his. "I don't know her."

With that, he stood up.

Liora breathed a sigh of relief. She deliberately invited Elijah today to show off in front of everyone in the hospital. Who knew it would turn out like this? Nevertheless, at least Elijah came, and everyone should be clear about her relationship with him.

"I'll escort you," Liora said, afraid that Elijah and Freya would have some contact outside.

After all, that night, it was Freya Stone.

They walked out of the hotel, and Elijah glanced around at the entrance. Freya was nowhere to be seen.

Freya just wanted to stay as far away from Elijah as possible. How could she wait for him here? She had already taken a taxi and left early.

Xander opened the car door. "Mr Silverton."

Elijah glanced at Liora Valentine and said, "Go back." Then he got into the car and left.

Liora Valentine watched the car drive away.

She felt somewhat regretful. If only she had insisted on marrying him back then. Now she would be Mrs Silverton.

When would she win Elijah's heart?

When would Elijah see her virtues and fall in love with her?

Freya Stone arrived at the old mansion of the Silverton family first.

Jack Silverton was over eighty, and his face, seasoned by the years, bore deep and steady wrinkles. He was in good spirits, and although his eyes were no longer as bright as in his youth, they still exuded a kind light. He asked with concern, "Are you used to your new life?"

Freya Stone nodded and replied, "Yes, I'm used to it."

The decision for her to marry Elijah Silverton was proposed by her father. It was well-known that Jack Silverton's favorite grandson was Elijah Silverton.

Knowing that Elijah didn't like her, according to how much Jack Silverton doted on Elijah, he should have refused. Even if he owed her father a favor, he could have given other benefits to persuade her father. But he not only agreed but also used his connections to arrange her marriage to Elijah in his absence. Freya moving into Elijah's villa was also directed by him. Until now, Freya couldn't figure out why Jack Silverton did this.

"Elijah hasn't troubled you, right?" the old man kindly asked.

Freya wanted to say that he was inhuman. But she understood that even though Jack Silverton treated her well, Elijah was his true grandson.

"No..." As soon as she finished speaking, Elijah walked in.

As soon as he entered, Jack Silverton began to scold him, "You and Freya are a married couple. It's so late, and you're not together? Freya has been here for half a day, why did you only arrive now?"

Elijah glanced at Freya and didn't respond.

Jack Silverton knew his grandson's dissatisfaction with this marriage. These words were more for Freya's benefit.

"Tonight, you two will stay in the old mansion. Deck, take Freya to Elijah's room."

Deck respectfully replied, "Yes."

Then, he gestured to Freya, "Madam, please come with me."

Freya cast a cautious glance at Elijah. He looked cold and didn't seem to notice her. She quietly withdrew her gaze and followed the steward.

Only the grandfather and grandson remained in the room.

Jack Silverton spoke with a heavy tone, as if sighing, "I know you have grievances and resentments, but it's been so long. You should let go."

Perhaps thinking of past events, the old man's eyes became even dimmer. Elijah, sitting casually in a chair, remained silent, his expression mysterious and unreadable.

With a deep sigh, Jack Silverton continued, "Arranging for you to marry Freya was my decision. Don't blame me for acting on my own. I did it for your own good. You're not young anymore. Although Freya's father used favors to force this, making it seem inappropriate, She is a good girl."

Elijah raised an eyebrow, displaying a chill that suggested otherwise. A good girl? Could a good girl cuckold him? But he didn't say this out loud; Jack Silverton was not the intended audience. That woman, he would definitely divorce her.

Jack Silverton looked at him and sighed again. Elijah was still willing to listen to his grandfather in this family. Otherwise, he might not even be willing to step into this home. Since the death of his parents, he had been mostly reticent, and he was even less willing to return to this home.

Jack Silverton didn't want to push him too hard and waved his hand helplessly, "It's getting late. You should go and rest early."

Elijah stood up.

Deck came back just in time, "Master Elijah,"

Elijah hummed lightly and walked out of the room. Deck walked up to Jack Silverton and whispered, "Sir, is this really okay?"

"No matter how stoic he is, he is still a man. How can he still have no feelings? Facing a beautiful woman, how can he not have any thoughts and impulses that a man should have?" said Jack.

Deck was still worried, "Sir, you know Master Elijah's temper. He must know that you deliberately let him live with the young mistress."

"How can two people develop feelings without contact? I can't control him outside, but in the old house, he is still willing to listen to me." The old man's voice was low, and he felt more guilty for Elijah.

With a significant tone, he added, "I won't live for many more days. He needs someone to take care of him."

"Master Elijah can understand your intentions." Deck reassured, supporting the old man back to the room.

Freya Stone was led by Deck to Elijah's room in the old mansion. Before leaving, Deck told her, "This is the young master's room, where he has lived since he was a child. It was redecorated once."

The room's decoration style differed from the villa. It was darker, with a predominant color scheme of black and gray. It lacked any warmth and had a cold atmosphere. Her eyes inadvertently fell on a delicate box on the shelf, catching her attention. This item seemed out of place in this room dominated by dark tones.

Just as she was about to take a closer look...

"What are you doing?!"

A cold and stern voice came from behind her.
