Wedding attack

Alexa's POV

I could be described as the most selfish human being on earth, but I had to do it.

I looked at my reflection as I adored the wedding gown I wore. I never imagined, even in my wildest dreams that I would one day wear such an expensive wedding gown

The cost of the gown alone was enough to settle my mum's medical expenses.

“It's time miss” one of the maids flung my door open.

The look in her eyes showed shock. I didn't know if I looked so bad, maybe wealth just didn't have a good look on me.

“You are so beautiful!’ her jaw dropped to the ground as she complimented me.

I blushed as the hairdresser and makeup artist walked me down the staircase, to the white limo that was already waiting to take me to the altar.

The drive to the altar made me feel like a prey waiting to be slaughtered.

The only thing that brought me to my senses was the car coming to a halt, and I turned to my left immediately.

The door was opened, and the big altar door opened for me. There were not as many guests as I had expected.

I walked down the aisle all by myself as I exchanged vows with the wealthiest man in the country.

I looked at how everyone cheered and clapped for us, except for a particular lady who was particularly dressed in black.

The way she dressed made me believe that she wanted people to notice her. She dressed as though she was going for a funeral, while she was clearly at a wedding.

I really couldn't see her face, as her dress was accompanied by a black net mask.

But, her eyes were clearly visible, and the dead stare she gave me freaked me out.

"What is it?" Xavier whispered to me, as he walked down the aisle with me.

"That lady, the way she is staring at me. Who is she?” I asked him, while I swallowed hard.

"I have no idea. She must be an acquittance or something" he replied, as he faked a smile on his face

"Why would an acquaintance dress like she is about to go for a funeral?" I questioned him, because the more we walked I felt so uneasy.

And we were already approaching her.

"For clout of course. She is probably an influencer that managed to get in. These people would use anything to get the fame they hungrily desire" he spoke with confidence

I remained silent after that, as I squeezed his hand.

But, just as we were about to pass by her, she threw a dart at me, as it landed on my arm.

"Get her!" I heard Xavier shout, before the entire altar was filled with smoke.

"I don't feel too good" I struggled to breathe, as he didn't let go of my hand.

The only thing I could do at that point was to feel his presence, because I definitely couldn't see him. The whole place was covered in a thick smoke and I could barely breathe.

I felt like I was being strangled.

I looked around and felt as though I was the only one having difficulty breathing. My vision isn't just blurry because of the smoke, but I also began to feel very dizzy and the whole place was spinning and I couldn't even keep myself in one place.

My body couldn't take it anymore and I just let darkness consume me as it pleased.

By the time I woke up, I was surrounded by light and the whole room appeared to be white as well.

"When will she wake up?" I could hear Xavier's voice very clearly, even in my confused state.

"I really can't tell " I heard another unfamiliar voice respond to him.

I squinted my eyes, and tried to sit upright but I fell back on the bed.

I guess they must have heard my body collide with the bed harshly, and it got their attention as they turned around to look at me

"Stay there. You need to regain your strength first" the man who I assumed to be a doctor advised me.

"Can you give us some privacy?" Xavier ordered the doctor.

"I need to run some tests first, '' the doctor advised, as he took off his stethoscope.

"You will do that after our conversation. But, I need to talk to my wife in private for now" he ordered the doctor to leave.

The doctor didn't say a word after that, as he just took a gentle bow and left the room.

I don't know why but I was scared. The way he looked at me, as though he wanted to drag me off the bed and hit me until I could no longer remember my name.

"Who is she??" He grunted, and I felt goosebumps immediately.

It was as if his voice was vibrating in my throat.

"I…don't…" I couldn't even finish my sentence when he lowered his head, and whispered in my ear.

"I married you so that you can take care of my daughter, and help her to recover. If anything happens to my child because of you, then you cannot even imagine what I will do to you" he warned me, and my eyes widened in fear.

He raised his head, stood upright and looked at me.

"Be careful" he spoke harshly and walked out of the room.

It had barely been 15 minutes he left the room, that Hannah ran inside.

"Mummy!" She called out to me.

Her voice gave me some kind of peace. Xavier trailed behind her as he kept staring at her.

"Are you okay?" She cried out.

"Yes, I am fine. You don't have to worry about me, what about you my brave baby. Are you alright? Did the smoke get to you?" I questioned her, because she was also present at the altar.

And that substance was far too choking for a little child.

"Of course not, that was just a fog from the machine. It doesn't choke" she told me, and I dazed out for a while.

That dart contained something harmful to me. That was to say that I was the main target, and the only reason the fog was released, was so they could escape.

"That's lovely my baby" I caressed her hair

Or at least, I tried to before I noticed the stiffness in my hand.

"I can't move!" I began to panic, while I tried to move the rest of my body.

Everywhere else was moving, but my hand.

Xavier noticed my behavior, and carried Hannah out of the room. He returned with a doctor soon after.

"You didn't need to panic so much, what if you had scared Hannah?" He lifted an eyebrow.

How wicked can this man really be?.

Despite everything, he is still seeing me as the villain in this case.

"You were shot with a substance that could have killed you if it had managed to reach your liver. And considering the position of the dart on your hand. I can tell you she was aiming directly for your liver, but it hit your right hand instead. And, because you were rushed here on time. We were able to detect it, and drain it from your hand before it could get to your liver.

Unfortunately, it will make you paralyzed on the right hand ...." He was still talking when I began to sniff.

This was definitely nature paying me back for my selfish act. I knew it would not be that easy to just get my way. Why do bad things always happen to me?.

I couldn't even stop myself from crying.

"You don't have to cry, it's only temporary. By tomorrow, you should be able to move your hand" the doctor informed me, and gave me relief.

"You should have started with that in the first place" Xavier was suddenly infuriated by the doctor.

"I'm sorry" the doctor apologized before conducting some physiological exams before he left the room.

"You are going home with me tonight. And new rules, you can't leave the house without at least four bodyguards by your side" he informed me, more like he was commanding me.

"What do you mean by that? I am not a child and you never mentioned this to me before I agreed to marry you" I was infuriated, but I couldn't let out all my anger.

"Is it that you are dumb, or you just chose to be oblivious to what's happening? The doctor said that her plan was to kill you. She was aiming for your liver, and you think she will give up when she misses just once?" He asked me, and I shook my head.

He had a point, but he was taking things too far.

He wanted to keep talking, but his phone rang and he left the room before…
