Accepting the trust

Xavier's POV

I locked myself in my room, unable to take the pain I had just gone through. I didn't know how I was meant to react to the whole issue. It was driving me crazy and I refuse to let it get the best of me.

"Daddy!" I heard Hannah's voice from outside. She was knocking harshly on the door as she was trying her best to get me to open the door.

"Go away ,Hannah." I clenched my fist, as my face turned red.

"No Daddy. Daddy!!" She kept on calling out to me.

“Hannah, I said you should leave!!" I found myself yelling at her, even though it was against my will.

The moment of silence that accompanied my last scream almost drove me insane.

A thought just crossed my mind. I had begun to wonder if she was my daughter or not. I spent five years loving and nurturing this child, and what happens if she turns out not to be mine after all.

I could no longer hold myself back, and I needed to clear my doubt. I knew I had to take her to get a DNA test done tomorrow morning.

I could barely even sleep that night, and at 9 am sharp I took my daughter to the hospital to get the DNA conducted.

The journey to the hospital was as silent as a graveyard. She was still in shock at how I had spoken to her the previous day, and I had too much running through my mind already.

"You will have to wait at least a few days for the results to be available," the doctor informed me, and I frowned.

I was so mad that I lost control and smacked my hand on the table in between us.

"I do not want to wait for five days. I want the result now" My eyes turned red, and I could see the fear in the doctor's eyes as he drifted back from me

"I am sorry but there is nothing that I can do. You will please have to wait at least five days. I promise that the results will not be delayed" the doctor shivered, as he spoke.

"Fine, let's go Hannah " I turned to my daughter, but she was no longer by my side.

********

In the middle of the road, a little girl with ginger-colored hair was trying to cross the road when a speeding white car came just 6 inches away from her.

She blocked her ears as she screamed with her mouth wide open when she heard the car horn.

"Ahhh!" She shivered.

But, before the car could get to her, a tall, beautiful lady, with dark hair and brown eyes came, from nowhere and pushed her out of the way, risking her own life in the process.

The white car zoomed off without checking if the woman or the little girl was okay.

The lady fell on the floor in the process of saving the child, she got up as she dusted herself and the child.

The girl looked so terrified, but she didn't cry the way other kids would normally do. She was just frozen.

"You are fine. The car is gone now" The lady buried the girl's head in her blossoms and sympathized with her.

But, instead of hugging her back, the girl pushed her away

"Go away!" She yelled, and this shocked the woman to the core.

"I don't like hugs," the girl cried out.

"That's fine. I promise I won't hug you again, just tell me where your mum is so I can take you to her" The lady knelt before the girl and caressed her face.

"Mum, I…I don't know" the girl murmured, as she got closer to the woman.

"Hannah , why did you run off like that?" Xavier walked out of the hospital, yelling at her.

Hannah was so scared that she hid behind the lady.

"You don't have to shout at her like that" The lady was shocked at how rude Xavier could be.

"You can't tell me how to take care of my own daughter," Xavier warned her.

"It's obvious you weren't taking care of her at all. If you had your eyes on her, in the first place. I am sure she wouldn't have run off like that" The lady wasn't backing out either.

"It's not my fault she is stubborn" Be6 tried to defend himself.

"So, it's my fault now?" She asked him.

He arched his eyebrows, as he narrowed his face. He looked at her angrily before he eventually snatched Hannah away from her.

The lady couldn't do anything, after all, she was his daughter.

"What if she isn't his daughter?" She asked herself, but before she could make any move. They had already gotten into the car and zoomed off.

She looked at her watch before she walked into the hospital, more like she ran into the hospital.

"Please doctor," she went on her knees.

"I have told you. We cannot start the surgery on your mother until you make a good deposit" The doctor shook his head hoping, she would leave his office.

"I have five thousand dollars already. Please start something, I don't want her to die" she pleaded with the doctor.

"For a surgery that cost five hundred thousand dollars. I think you will have to deposit more than five thousand dollars for us to even touch her" The doctor brushed her away.

"I know it's not enough, but you can't let my mother die. Isn't it your job to save lives? Why then do you want to let my mum die?" She went to her knees crying her eyes out and begging the doctor to have mercy on her.

He looked at her, with pity stamped on his face, because there was nothing that he could do.

"Yes, it is my job to save lives and that is why I need to get paid for it. If I treat your mother without any payment, then I would have to do it for other people as well. And besides, there is nothing I can do. I am just an employee and I do not own the hospital " he made it clear for her. She didn't want to give up easily, so she wrapped her hands around his legs.

"Please just help me in any way you can" Her tears rolled down hotly on her cheeks

"It is bad enough that I am keeping her here without taking any payment." The doctor tried to shake her off, but she clung to him even more.

"Okay, fine. I think I can help you" he looked at her, and she got up from the floor wiping her tears and thanking him.

"There is this billionaire whose daughter needs a nanny. I am very sure if you can get the job, you will get good pay. And we can commence the surgery" he advised her, before he scribbled some words on a piece of paper before he handed it over to her.
