They arrived at their destination, it was a nice hotel right on the shore. The guests have booked their rooms because the party was going to go until late hours, so they didn’t have to ride back. The party was held in a spacious, luxurious hall.
“This is a perfect opportunity for you to learn how to converse and mingle with people, once you marry Tristan and he becomes the leader of our clans, you’re going to need it because you will be the main representative of the packs, you have to be perfect hostess,” her mother told her when they got out of the car.
Selene didn’t have a problem with that, she had attended lots of events since she was a child, being taught how to converse with people and be polite, charming and sweet . Thankfully she was a social butterfly, able to hold conversation with people of different ages and ranks and social status, she had her natural charms, making everyone fall for her almost instantly, it was one of her many gifts.
They entered, finding out that almost all the guests already arrived. Selene scanned the crowd with his eyes to find the familiar face she was so excited to see again but it looked like the Blackwoods weren’t there yet.
She started going around with her mother, taking a glass of champagne and mingling like she was told to. After a while, her mother left her to continue alone. Most of the people here were older than her parents’ age group but she had no problem with that, she was the kind of person all parents liked.
Maybe an hour later, just when she was talking with the leader and his husband of the southern pack, she heard murmuring. She followed where people were looking, eyes falling to the entrance. The commotion was caused by the arrival of the Blackwoods since they had the biggest and most powerful pack in the country, they were like royalty and all packs were trying to maintain the best relations with them.
Selene’s heart skipped a beat when she finally saw him.
Like she predicted, Tristan had changed quite a lot in the two years they hadn’t seen each other . He just turned 22 so he was still very young but he didn’t resemble a child anymore obviously, he looked very grown now. He was taller than before, shoulders broader and trimmed waist, wearing black fitted suit and black shirt that complimented him well. His legs were long and thighs muscular and although his eyes were still round and cute, his facial features got even sharper, jaw more prominent and all that baby fat gone from his cheeks. He was really handsome and Selene was once again reminded how lucky she was to be promised to such alpha.
She saw some younger omegas whispering and eyeing the heir of the Nightshade pack. Tristan didn’t make appearances in public very often so there was a mystery surrounding him, there have only been stories going around about the young Blackwood being very handsome, his biggest appeal has been his status because everyone wanted to squeeze their way into the Blackwood family. Selene felt so proud and honored that it was her and she felt a bit superior and smug because tonight they were going to make the announcement and officially get engaged and everyone in the country would know that she is the lucky omega.
The Blackwoods went in and started talking to people. Selene immediately noticed how ingratiating everyone was when they spoke to Maximilian and his wife and son.
Selene was fidgeting, wanting nothing more than to talk to Tristan but she knew she had to be patient and behave, so she just went back to talking to people.
Her gaze was slipping to the young alpha every now and then and at one point, their gazes finally met. Tristan gave her a subtle smile, which made her cheeks heat up and she looked at the ground shyly. When she looked back up,Tristan wasn’t looking at her anymore but the small interaction still made her heart beat a bit faster.
About one hour after they arrived, the Blackwoods finally approached the Cromwells , greeting them and talking to them about something Selene didn’t hear. After a while, Selene’s mother gestured for her to come over so she did.
“Hello, Selene, looks like the time in Europe was good for you, you blossomed,” Mr. Blackwood smiled at her and then added: “Let’s go somewhere private to discuss the engagement.”
Selene obeyed, following them and her parents out of the big hall. Tristan joined them, walking by her side, until they were in some backroom, just the six of them.
“Selene, Tristan will give you this ring, it runs in the family for generations,” Mrs. Blackwood pulled out a small velvety box and opened it, revealing a beautiful white gold ring with black opal with sapphires . Black and blue were the official Nightshade pack colors for centuries.
“We will call you to the small stage in the front when the time comes,” her father said, looking at the two young wolves. “You will come and we will announce your engagement and the union of the packs. Then you will say short vows to each other and Tristan will put the ring on Selene’s finger.”
“Vows?” Tristan asked, slightly panicked and Selene felt the same. No one told her anything about vows.
“Don’t worry dears, we wrote them down for you, they are the same and it’s only a couple of sentences, so memorize them before you go up,” Mrs. Blackwood handed them both a small card.
“Is that everything?” Selene asked, wanting to make sure that there was nothing else expected from them.
“Yes, after you get the ring, we will take over and make a toast and then you can leave,” Mr. Blackwood nodded.
That didn’t sound very complicated but Selene was still slightly nervous, it seemed like a big thing, doing it in front of so many people but he was still giddy, not able to wait for it to finally happen. He and Tristan were promised to each other almost three years ago but only tonight, it was going to be official.
