chapter 4

-Don Jones-

I dropped my laptop in my back, checking the time on the clock on my desk, it was 9 p.m already. I was sure Miss Dina would be so frustrated working as the receptionist knowing she can't close till I leave the office.

I stood up, holding my bag. I felt continues vibrations coming from the pocket of my trouser. When I removed my phone to check who was calling, I was not surprised to see my mom calling. She called very often. I answered the call, walking towards the door.

"Yes mom."

"Are you done with working?" The sweet and nice tone she always possessed spoke in my ears.

"Hmm, why?" I got out of my office, locking it, before heading to the elevator. I pressed the button and watched the door separate before entering it, pushing the first floor button, I stared as the door closed.

"Could help me pick Violin on your way? She went on a date to some bar called Holm's or something and was ditched by the guy so she needs someone to pick her up."

"Why can't you send a driver or something?"

"I would but I realized that the place she's in is not a safe place for a girl her age to be in and I don't want her staying there much longer." She sounded concerned. "If I were to send a driver, they'd have to first leave the house, and it'd take time till they get there. But if you go now, you'll take less time to get there."

"I don't understand why the moron is going out with useless guys and I'm the one who has to suffer for it."

"Don't talk about your cousin like that. Just pick her up."

"Whatever." I hung up.

The elevator dinged before the doors separated. I walked out of it to the reception where Miss Dina looked tired. Her eyes lighten up at my sight, she was probably happy I was checking out.

I wrote my name and the time, walking out and totally ignoring her "good night sir."

A bodyguard of mine opened the passenger seat of my car which I entered watching him close it. The driver was ready to drive. I really don't have the type of relationship with Violin that I'd sit in the same car with her.

I wound down the window, signaling for the bodyguard to move closer so I could tell him something which he complied to. "Tell the driver of my other car to follow this car, okay?"

"Yes sir."

I turned to the driver. "I'm heading to Holm's bar."

"Okay sir." With that, he started the car and zoomed off. At least, at this rate I would still be going to pick her up, but would not have to sit in the same car with her. That would be so suffocating.

As soon as we were close to the bar, I recognized a familiar face. I didn't realize it was Miss Eri at first. My gosh, what on earth happened to her. She looked so wasted, she couldn't walk properly and was staggering with every step. Her hair was packed in a rough ponytail.

I decided ignoring her would be best. She started shouting. "Motherfucking bitch." At first I was wondering what she was so bad at to be this wasted until she added. "Who the hell do you think you are to insult me that way Don!"

Don? Why was she calling me by my name? Well, I shouldn't be mad at her since she's not at work. Actually, I shouldn't care if anyone insults me behind my back, I'd gotten a lot of that in my lifetime.

I was about to just ignore her when I noticed a man walking behind her with a lustful smirk on his face. What on earth was this girl doing to herself at this time of the day. "Stop the car." I ordered the driver who complied immediately.

I got out of the car walking towards the guy whose hand was already wrapped around her waist and whispering some things to her that I could not hear. When I got closer, I heard her say, "let me go please." But instead of the useless jerk to let her go, his reply came out as;

"Come on baby, let's go." That had irritated him, I hated men who used women at their weakest times, when they knew the female can't do anything.

"She said to leave her alone." With that they both turned to me. Eri looked confused and surprised at the same time.

I walked up to her, grabbing her from the man. I held her by the waist because I was sure she was going to fall if I left her alone, the fact that she rested her head on my chest made my heart flutter just a tiny bit, I had no idea why.

"Who the fuck are you?" The man asked.

"You better leave now before I get you arrested for sexual harassment." I said that in a threatening voice which obviously made the guy know what type of person I am as he just left.

I turned to Eri. "What have you done to yourself?" I was annoyed I had to do this when I'm a very busy man.

"Don? What are you doing here?" Why was she calling me so casually? I would have gotten angry but decided to just blame it on the alcohol.

"Come on, let's go." I walked her to my car, placing her to sit beside me.

I had totally forgotten about Violin. "Tell the other driver to drop Violin home." I ordered the driver who quickly picked his phone up.

"Why are you so mean to me Don?" She asked. Her mouth reeked of alcohol and that irritated me.

"Where do you live?" I asked.

"Why are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer on a daily basis." I did not understand what that meant but I chose to ignore.

"How on earth can you have a trillion dollar? What! While I'm here looking for $55000, you're swimming in trillions." So that's what she meant. I don't understand why changing the company into a trillion dollar company would hurt her so much.

Her phone started ringing in her purse and I quickly took it out of the purse. The caller was someone named Suzy. I answered the call.

"Why aren't you home yet?" She sounded worried. It seemed like they lived together so maybe this girl could tell me where to take Eri.

"Where does she live?" I asked and there was silence, like the Suzy person was trying to check if she called the right number.

"Who are you?"

"I met her wasted in a bar, just tell me where she lives so I could drop her home." I had no time for explanation.

"Oh," she said where she lives and I told the driver to drive us there which he complied to.

"Why do you hate me?" Apparently, Eri wasn't ready to sleep yet which would have been a better option as she smelt terrible.

Why would she think I'd waste my time hating somebody? I was too busy to hate.

"I mean, I have always tried to do things to not get a negative comment but I never get a positive one. Will it hurt to say thank you or please once in a while. You overwork people and yet never appreciate their work." Why was she listing all my bad? That was discomforting.

"You are this handsome, but so mean." For some reason, her words were getting right through me which rarely happened.

"Think about how better life would be if everyone was wealthy. Imagine adding the money of every body in the world and dividing it equally," she smiled and even though she was drunk, her smile was still as pretty as the one she did in the office that made my heart flutter, "everyone would be wealthy." With that, she fell asleep.

______

-Eri Sunville-

I woke up to the most terrible headache ever. What happened? I sat up, masagging my head with my finger and thumb wrinkling my forehead as I tried to remember what had happened.

I widened my eyes when everything came back to me like I was watching it on TV. I remembered talking some crazy thing about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

"What have I done?" I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. I have obviously lost my job. "Arggh." I shook my head aggressively, kicking the air. Why did I have to drink?

Suzy walked in with a cup of what I guessed would be hot tea. "Who was that handsome dude that dropped you here?"

I took the cup from her. "That 'handsome dude' is my boss." I didn't hide the frustration from my tone.

"Your boss?" Suzy said in between her laughter. "What was the song you were singing about? I've never heard of it."

Song? Oh my, I remember now. When Don was bringing me to Suzy. Oh no.

Flashback

"Oh Don Jones, the riiiich get richer la la la, the poooor gets poorer hmm hmm hmm. The riiiich getting richer, the poooor getting poorer."

End of flashback.

I covered my face with my palm. "Suzy, I apologize but I think I've lost my job." I turned to see her expression, expecting her to be as sad as I am but instead she was laughing. "How is that funny?" I furrowed my brows, casting a shadow over my eyes.

"Well I doubt if you'd get fired."

I rose an eyebrow. "What do you know? You know nothing about Don."

"Well, I might not know anything about him but I do know that he didn't seem angry at you, in fact when you were singing awkwardly he was actually laughing at me."

"Laughing? You don't have any idea what you are saying." Don Jones laugh? "It's like saying you saw an ant lift a mansion. Don is not capable of things like that, not in a million years. I've never seen him smile not to talk about laughing."

"Well, I'm just telling you what I saw yesterday." She shrugged leaving the room and me to actually wonder if she was correct. No way, Suzy was probably imagining it. He's not capable of things like that.

I can't imagine how I'd face him on Monday, thankfully it was Saturday so I could get myself prepared for how to face him.

***

How would I face him now? I inserted my card in the hole, entering inside as soon as the door opened. I hadn't prepared enough fo what to say. As always, he was sitting on his desk, typing on his laptop.

Maybe if I just walked to my office and try to avoid any discussion relating to what happened on Friday, everyone would be happy. I rushed to my office door. As soon as I held the door knob to my office, he just had to stop typing on his keyboard.

"Miss Eri." I turned to him immediately. He didn't say anything which just made me anxious, was he going to speak anytime soon. Maybe he wanted me to bring it up.

I sighed. "Listen, I apologize sincerely for what happened on Friday, I didn't mean any of it, I was just too wasted." I tried to read his expression but he only had a blank expression on.

"I didn't ask." Ouch.

"Oh, sorry sir."

"I need you to cancel any meetings I have today."

I nodded. "Okay sir."

"We're going to my wedding hall today."

"What?!" I didn't mean for my voice to come out so loud but what can I do, why would he want me to go with him. Can't he let me rest for a day.

He furrowed his brows. "Do you have a problem with that?"

"Well yes, I mean no no not at all." What was wrong with me, do I want to lose my job before I get my first month's salary.

"Get ready, we're going in twenty minutes."

"Okay sir." I opened the door, entering my office. This man can't let me have at least one day rest.

Thirty minutes had passed and I was sitting in the car of a multi billionaire. I don't really enter cars that aren't taxes. It was so comfortable I would have slept if I wasn't still in work, I mean I'm going as a personal assistant, how could I even fall asleep.

I jerked my eyes open when I felt the car stop. "Did you sleep well?" His voice didn't show he was annoyed, as he got out of the car that had been opened by a bodyguard, I got down too.

Did I really sleep? For how long? I didn't think I would sleep, that's just weird and,  Oh-My-Gosh, what is this place. Was this a palace or a wedding hall?

"What's wrong?" I didn't realized I had stopped walking until I heard Don's voice. My jaw was literally on the floor. What was this? Woah, I had never been to a billionaire's wedding hall before.

"Miss Eri." His voice came out more stern and when I turned to him, I noticed his brows were pulled together in a frown, his frown made me get my composure back.

I ran to meet him. "Is this really your wedding hall?" I had to ask, like I mean what?!

"Yes, why?" He was too fast and I had to keep up with his pace.

"Like, what?! This is literally every girls dream, I mean whoever said money can't buy happiness has probably never been wealthy before." Maybe it was because of this amount of wealth I was seeing, I found myself just blabbing out my thoughts.

I noticed him staring at me and I turned to him, expecting to see an angry Don but instead he chuckled. What was happening? Maybe Suzy wasn't imagining him laugh, maybe he was already going nuts.

Even something was wrong with me because his smile made my heart flutter a little.
