That Can't Happen

Anna's POV

Jason questioned us about our evening plans as we were completing our lunches.

Just a few streets from the restaurant, this nightclub is hosting a performance by my cousin's band. I promised her I'd drop by," he said. "Please come with me, I'd enjoy it. The band's main vocalist, Kendall, has a fantastic voice.

She does, in fact. Michael put down his fork and said, "I've heard her sing before. She somewhat reminds me of Adele, I think.

It sounds pleasant. We have no intentions," Ridley said immediately. The question is, "Do we, Anna?"

When I saw the desperate expression in her eyes, I was going to object. "Uh, yeah. Possibly for one drink only.

"Wonderful. Michael, how about you? Jason enquired.

Michael glanced at his watch. I'm willing. but just for one beverage. I have a meeting that requires me to get up early.

It sounds amazing, Jason remarked. Why don't I have my limo transport the four of us to the club because parking is a bit of a hassle there? I'll have him pick you up in front when you're ready to go and take you back to your vehicles.

Wonderful," Ridley said. "Anna and I haven't gone out to a club together in a long time. Additionally, I'd like to listen to your cousin Kendall sing.

"She's amazing. By the way, if anybody is concerned about driving after drinking, my driver can always drop you up at home instead, and I'll set up for your car to be delivered in the morning, Jason remarked.

Jason, thank you. We'll keep it in mind without a doubt. Ridley got to her feet after removing her phone. Adam will be called to inform him that it would probably be a late night. I'll return immediately.

I sighed quietly. I had a sneaking suspicion that she would make me remain until it was time to go, regardless of my preferences.

Michael stood up and said, "Actually, I think I should probably use the men's room before we go." I vowed, "I'll be back."

You may wish to accompany me. Jason predicted that the club would be full and that there would be lengthy lineups.

I moaned. Even though I was curious and wanted to hear his relative perform, nightclubs were no longer my thing.

Jason gave me a low, "Cheer up," intone while focusing on me. You're going to enjoy yourselves tonight. I promise it.

Was reading me that simple?

I chuckled hesitantly. Oh, don't worry, I'm OK. We appreciate you having us; it's extremely sweet of you.

"No issue, and to be honest, I wasn't really excited about traveling by myself. I make an effort to avoid the club scene. The only reason I'm doing it is for Kendall.

I can hear you. Even though I'm not a huge fan, I'm really looking forward to hearing your relative perform.

He grinned. "Good. This will also offer us some time to bond and learn more about one another.

Something about his gaze caused my tummy to quiver.

Was he trying to seduce me?

I shrugged, dismissing the ridiculous notion. "Trust me, there isn't much to discover about my uninteresting existence. I immediately responded, sensing the apparent displeasure in his eyes, "Not that I'm unhappy. I just spend more time at home these days.

He focused on my face. "That can't happen. You are a young, lovely lady. Right now, you ought to be enjoying the time of your life.

"I am. I said with a grin. It could always be better, I guess.

"So, you're bored, then?" said he.

I avoided acknowledging that I wasn't exactly enjoying the "high life," saying, "I'm... comfortable."

"Are you comfortable? To live a full and satisfying life, according to my grandpa, you must be ready to go outside of your comfort zone.

I remained silent.

He covered my hand with his. "I believe the moment has come for you to do it. Tonight."

Jason's POV

--------

Anna hurriedly withdrew her hand as her cheeks started to flush.

"I apologize. I apologized, unsure of what I had been thinking at the time. "I didn't mean to embarrass you," I added. Yes, she was really beautiful, and there was no doubt that I would like fucking her. However, following the error with my ex-wife Marissa, I resolved never to combine work and pleasure once again. Marissa and I instantly clicked when she was recruited as my interior designer while I was in my early twenties. After falling in love, we were married and had Jake. Unfortunately, she underwent a significant transformation during the next several years. She began to party heavily, and then there were the one-night relationships. Even worse, Pete White, one of my teammates, and I discovered her cheating on me. It not only permanently destroyed our marriage but also my baseball career. My pitching career, which was the only thing that truly mattered to me except for my kid on the night I faced Pete, was destroyed when I hurt my shoulder. And to make matters worse, Pete just moved into my former home with Marissa after completely recuperating from a few broken ribs. My only solace was that, by agreeing to keep Pete's name out of the public, I was able to get complete custody of Jake without having to put up a fight. Even though I detested him, I began the fistfight and was aware that they would use it against me in court anyway. My attorney had encouraged me to accede to their requests in exchange for a favorable divorce settlement for Marissa. She left with the mansion and $10,000,000 in her possession. She was only permitted supervised visits until I decided to pay her more, and in exchange, I had my son. Knowing that Jake would never have to walk in and see his mother using cocaine or in bed with the guy who had destroyed his father's career made it a little price to pay.

She said, still glowing, "It's okay." "I may sound strange, but I'm not used to being touched," the person said.

I wanted to ask if she would want me to help her get over it, but I had to bite my tongue.

I justified it to myself by saying that the alcohol and the two months since my last intercourse were to blame.

"Make no apologies. I ought to have let you know that I'm a toucher," I lied, sensing the tense atmosphere. It's simply how I am. When I initially took Michael's hand, you should have seen Michael. I laughed. "I felt like I was moving when he looked at me."

She grinned and relaxed. He probably nearly wished you were there.
