Chapter 1

Haley's POV

She has been working here for a month now and I won’t even lie about it, it has been very hard for me to focus on anything else but her.

During her lessons I barely even hear what she’s saying, I missed more than enough soccer practices to get me kicked out of the team, at home my dad and I don’t even talk anymore but what’s the point anywhere when he’s obviously knocking off work late.

Today again, I see her in her black skirt, tight enough to draw her butt cheeks for me to focus on during the lesson, her white blouse is cute anyway and her black heels are just adding up.

“Did you hear what I’ve just said, Mr. Aiden?”

Right in front of my desk, but wait! I didn’t hear anything too!

“Mr. Aiden, what’s the answer?” she asks me

I mumbled, with nothing else to say because I heard nothing

“Uhmm…45 660.” That’s the number that came into mind all of a sudden.

I see Ms. Presley giggle. I knew I said the wrong answer and the students in class started to laugh at me.

“That’s enough class” she stopped everyone from laughing

The bell rang and it was after-school, everyone stood up and left the class.

“Man, you need to come to the soccer field today, coach is this close to calling your dad.”

My friend Niel has been pestering me to come back to practice but the second I heard that coach wants to involve my father in this I was shaken, I oath to go to practice and face my coach today!

As everyone leaves, I was left alone with Ms. Presley in the classroom.

I pack my books into my bag and I walk slowly to the exit door, she turns to look at me.

“Mr. Aiden, please wait.”

I hear her. She walks towards me with a sweet smile, my heart is racing as I wait for her to get closer.

“Look, I’ve seen your past papers for geometry and other subjects and you’re the first top learner in this high school but I’m concerned now that it’s been a month and you aren’t as dedicated with your work as you used to be, I have a feeling something is wrong and I want to ask.”

“Nothing is wrong.”

I ran out of words! Like I always do when I talk to her!

“Any issues at home with your parents? There has to be something for you to put in this less effort on your work.”

“I’m okay. I’ll pull up my socks, if I have to.” I faked a grin

“No, you have to pull up your socks Mr. Aiden and if you need help with that you know where my office is, I’m always here to help.” She smiled at me

See, that smile! That smile is driving me insane bit by bit.

We just stood there, in front of each other.

“Uh…extra classes, I need a little help please.” I lied!

“Sure, I mean…why not. We’ll meet in my office every Friday how is that for you?” she asks without any hesitation

“Sure, I can cancel whatever plans for schoolwork.”

Again, I lied! I’d definitely cancel my school plans just to hang with her, I lied about the help as well, I was literally the A learner in geometry and every other subject I was doing but I wanted some extra and alone time with my teacher just to get to know her. She seemed really nice to offer me extra help though.

“Thank you.” I told her

“Yes, enjoy the rest of the day.” She grabs her stuff and leaves before I do, I watched her leave. Perfect!

I rushed to my locker and took out my soccer practice clothes and I went to change as quick as possible before I ran to join my team mates in the soccer field.

“Oh, look who decided to show up.” Said Melvin in a teasing voice

Melvin and I never got along because we were always and still fighting to get the same spot in the team, captain. I’m pretty sure I made the challenge very easy for him since I’ve been absent for a month, stupid move I’ve made.

My coach walked towards me and he didn’t look pleased even a bit.

“Keep practicing guys! Aiden let me have a talk with you real quick.”

I swear I had the most strict coach even and nothing concerning soccer was a joke to him, ugh problems with failed soccer players!

We took a walk in the field, away from the team members

“How are you child?”

“I’m grand coach.” What else?

“What’s been happening in a month? A whole month you’ve been absent why? What’s been keeping you away?”

I faced down with shame.

“Layla Heidi?” he asks

“No coach.”

Why would he even think that it’s my ex Layla? Layla has been nothing but that little mean spoiled brat girlfriend that was the one pressuring me to stay in this team so I end up getting my scholarship to Harvard and then join the NFL so I can later marry her and make her join the WAGS, sigh…she cared so much about status that it ended up getting to my nerves! I guess having a reputation of being the mayor’s only daughter was not enough for her, I’m thinking she took after her father, Mayor Zach Heidi, he must surely be greedy as well.

“What is it Aiden, tell me something, talk to me.” My couch insisted

“I mean…I needed to do some soul searching on some things, my breakup with Layla kind of make me question what is it that I actually wanted from this life. It's crazy coach but that’s true.”

I see coach nod.

“I see, well I’m glad you came around because I was about to inform your father about this. I know soccer is your passion and you want to get your scholarship, that idea makes everyone around you proud, now I want you to make it happen, I want to help you make it happen.”

“I know coach, I appreciate it.”

“From now on please show up to practice often, we need you.”

I nodded, I was pleased that he said they needed me.

“But I have extra geometry lessons every Friday coach.” I told him and he nodded.

“Of course that’s fine.”

We went back to join my team mates for practice and the day went well to be honest!

I counted hours preparing for what I was going to talk about with my teacher during our extra lessons on Friday, I did go to soccer practice after all my lessons and it was mind calming until Friday arrived I waited for the bell to ring and I packed my books and made my way to Ms. Presley s cabin

I arrive there and knock on her door then I hear her say I should come in, I opened the door and walked in

There she was, in her chair smiling at me

“Welcome. Please have a seat”

I sat down before her desk and took out my books.

“I’m really glad you came, we can get started I’ve been expecting you.” She said

We started with our geometry lesson and it went well, I was able to work out whatever problem she gave me within less than expected seconds and I blew her mind!

“Uh…you’re really good at this you know, I don’t even think extra lessons are for you.” She giggles

Snap!

I must make her believe that I need her help with this so I keep coming here because how else will I get to spend my time alone with her?!

“Why did you take teaching course?” I asked anything that just came in mind

“Uh…because, I like teaching.” She answers with a fake smile in her face, I could tell

“Nice, how are you finding Peterson High school?”

“I get to spend my time with the most loving and intelligent students, what’s not to love there.” She smiles

“Nice, why did you move to this school if I may ask?”

She keeps quiet for a moment

“I’m sorry if I asked the wrong question” I apologized

“No it’s fine, it was just a question anyway” she smiles

Ugh I wish she knew deep down that was not just a question, I’d like to know everything about her!

“I just moved in this country, I’m from Egypt and I’ve been teaching there for a while now until my husband and I moved to the states.”

A husband! A whole husband! What is this? She’s married! Is this a fucking joke right now?!

“I didn’t know you had a husband” I tell her

I see her smile, my eyes were full of anger and abhorrent for whatever the jerk she called her husband. I wanted to yell at her, scream at her and hurt her more than she just did with me.

“I’ve been married for six years now.”

“How’s it going? You like the person you’re married to?” I didn’t know what to ask, I was angry inside.

“Its great, marriage is a marriage at the end of the day, and I don’t think like is the appropriate word to use for how you feel about your spouse.”

“Yah it’s fine, I don’t wanna know” I mumbled, hopefully she didn’t hear me

But I wanted to know.

“So what about you Mr Aiden? Tell me something about this A student that’s seating right in front of me”

She leans back in her chair.

“I love soccer, hoping to get a scholarship and take my career further, I’m just lucky to have the people that support me around. My dad’s a police caption in the local police department and I’m the only child.” I shrugged

“And your mom? Are your parents still together?”

I knew she’d ask about my mom, everybody else does when I tell them about myself.

“No, I don’t have a mom. She died five years ago, I was only thirteen.”

I see Ms. Presley frown.

“I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t say that, I’m…I’m over it. What’s your first and maternal name?”

“I’ve never had a student like yourself” she laughs

“I like knowing much about the people that inspire me.”

Hopefully that line worked

“Well…” she looks impressed “Alesia Ande”

“That’s a pretty unique name.”

She smiles, I wish we were on a date right now.

We continued with the lesson after our short break.
