CHAPTER 1: BRYANSTON
A fresh start
This was going to be a fresh start for me
Although I have promised myself that a million times this time it feels different.
On one of my drunken nights with girls I barely knew someone mentioned a town called Bryanston. The name intrigued me and the way this girl talked about the town was boring quite frankly but the way she spoke about it made me believe that this town was quite something else.
I had nothing to lose so why not check it out. Not like I had anything better to do anyways.
I always regretted leaving my family but what was I supposed to do when everyone faded into the past and I was left there to stand and watch. Everything changing except for me.
Totally sucks.
I gulped the last of the vodka down my throat, it burned and warmed my stomach and blurred my vision more.
I haven’t felt this drunk in a long time, I always reminisce when I am this drunk. The memories just come flooding back.
The first few years without them was dreadful and I couldn’t bear it.
So as soon as I could I sold the house and bought myself a travelling van and headed as far away as possible and I once never looked back on Blackwell.
Blackwell
I hated it so much there. The only thing that kept me from not running away were my sisters and brother.
But even they had disappeared into just a faint memory.
“ ZOEY!!! Come on you are no funnn” a red head slurred bring me back to the present. Cami I think.
I smiled stupidly and hooted into the night enjoying my drunken state. It was a breath of fresh air I convinced myself until I would find another place to drink my sorrows in. Maybe Bryanston would do.
When I realised that I was not getting any older staying in one town was clearly not an option and people were starting to become suspicious. Whispers can be twisted into terrible horrible things and people are afraid of what they do not understand.
I have been travelling ever since then. It has been a lonely journey but moment like these makes it worth it.
The sun was rising, the girls yelling out their lungs and I smiled knowing well enough that when the sun rises I will be long gone and forgotten.
Driving made me feel so alive
The silence was so beautiful . The sound of nature at its fullest.
The salty smell of the ocean and the birds chirping made being alone wholesome.
Bryanston
I chucked the last bit of coffee containing vodka and started gulping down my breakfast that had been brought by the nice waiter.
She looked a bit young for working as a waiter but then again I might have looked young to her.
Her name was Alice I think
After I stuffed my face with the last bits of the pancakes and left a tip on the table.
I took my leather jacket from the bench and headed out.
It was a pretty quiet town for all that girl was blabbing on about.
There were statues everywhere most of them were of a man next to some large wolf.
It seemed kind of weird but from what I was seeing they were pretty much obsessed with wolves but then again this town is known for its frequent encounters with wolves.
It was sort of interesting which intrigued me a lot.
The library
Where all the information I need is stored. Before coming to this town I did some research of course
And I would finally find the answers that I have been itching to find out.
A cranky old lady greeted me at the front desk.
“hi, where is the history section of the town..” I smiled with my full teeth and she pointed me towards what I needed not even bothering to look up.
Shesh old people I tell you.
I ran my fingers through the books reading the titles of the books annnnddd there it was. The musky scent being dominant
Old newspapers of the history of the town dating back to the 1600s.
This town was pretty ancient.
Just as ancient as the statue I see or the one person in particular.
The dude in the statue was the mayor. He looked pretty handsome for his age.
I spent hours looking through all the information and history of the town and yet I couldn’t find what I was looking for.
Bryanston was the oldest towns I knew where strange things were apparent
I thought that the strange things that are happening to me can be somewhere in this history but nothing.
I sat down on the floor feeling helpless.
It was dark when I made my way to the diner parking lot towards my van.
Gosh why did I believe I would find my answers here of all places.
I had hope I would find something but I guess destiny had not been so kind to me.
All I was left wondering was why.
It felt creepy walking at night, the town seemed eerie at night and it gave me chills. I felt like someone was watching me.
I walked faster and turned a quick corner and bee lined to my van.
The faster I walk the faster I can get out of the danky town.
And this was supposed to be my fresh start.
