Chapter 6

It's been an hour since James and Mr. Crawford arrived in their household and while at that, she chose to stay inside of the bedroom because she was worried that the two men will ask Mrs.Crawford to spell her out from the house.

Biting her nails as she makes rounds on her bedside, she is now starting to make plans on how she should live alone without anyone supporting her.

Could she last for a day? Week? Months? But how would she do that? She's pregnant for damn's sake!

No one even knows who the father of her child is, except for her!

Whatever the consequence of summoning Mrs. Crawford from the school, she needs to be strong if ever they suddenly send her out of the house. Anyhow her parents' house is still there waiting for her. She's not homeless though she's an orphan.

This time she had nothing to do but to keep strong for the sake of her unborn child.

As she heaves a deep sigh, she suddenly hears the engine of a car that stops in the garage. Flinching, thinking that it was Mrs. Crawford, she immediately grabs her phone and stares hard at the screen of her device.

Should she call her best friend Oddette, and say that James finally came back and with the shocking truth of him being Mrs. Crawford's son; that in any moment she might be spelled out from her household?

How she wishes that she can tell her best friend all of those but she couldn't because she fears her friend judging her.

Oddette is a thoughtful girl. She had always been a supportive friend to her yet for some reason she couldn't help but be secretive. She knows that her friend wanted to ask her all sorts of questions but decided to respect her silence. And that's something, she couldn't spoil at all.

As she finds herself contemplating, she suddenly notices something.

If Sir James is actually Mrs. Crawford's son then why do they have different surnames? His full name is James Sullivan and she remembers Mrs. Crawford called her son Jamie so how come–

Just before she could finish the trailing thought in her head, she heard a knock on the door which dragged her back from deep thoughts.

She immediately stood up from her seat and opened the door, only to notice a man standing in front of her.

Her eyes widened for a second, a hint of surprise in her eyes but managed to immediately get back as the man spoke.

"Mom already arrived. She wanted you to come down," James says which made her weakly nod. She can't even look at him straight in the face as the man swiftly turns around.

For some reason, his voice sounded lonely and weak. Is something wrong with him? She can't discern the thoughts swirling inside his head yet she managed to finally walk, following him.

Honestly, when the two gentlemen came unexpectedly earlier, Emmie didn't know what to do. She hasn't said a word to them except for small greetings and polite answers.

Her hands were sweating like crazy as she walked down the same hallway she always does. To her, it felt a little different than usual, probably because of the nervousness creeping onto her body.

Her heart was pounding hard, not knowing what to do; she couldn't help but think that Mr. Crawford and his son James won't allow her to stay in their house for the time being.

The sound of the flip flops screeching through the floor was the only thing filling the room, the whole time. The two of them were silent as though they were mere strangers. As Emmie puts her hand across the handle of the staircase, she lets the palm of her hands feel the smoothness of the railing and then slowly makes her way towards the living room with the man she used to like.

Once they were now at the spacious room of the place, she found herself face to face with the old couple Crawford.

Mrs Crawford moved next to Mr Crawford and then afterwards called her.

"Emmie, come here my dear, I will formally introduce you to my husband and my son," Mrs Crawford said after she walked nearer to her.

"Come dear seat next to me," she added, which she did as Mrs Crawford instructed. "This is my husband, Jake Crawford," she introduces and then turns around to look at her husband. There was a hint of sweet smile flashed onto her face before she resumed and looked towards the younger man. "And here is my son, James Sullivan Crawford," Mrs. Crawford added which finally made her understand why her teacher uses his other surname as his profession name.

"I'm sure, you met James in school, am I right?" Mrs Crawford asked, which made her stunned. Nervousness overwhelmed her; what if Mrs Crawford knew that James was her child's father.

What if she knew already about what happened to her and James?

"Ye...yes Ma'am," she stammered when she replied. There's no reason to deny it.

Seems like Mrs Crawford knew that James was already a teacher in Himalayan school. But she's confused why Mrs Crawford didn't tell her that the school her son worked at before was Himalayan.

"Oh, I see." Mrs. Crawford chuckles. "You're probably stammering because you were surprised that Jamie here is my son. We don't share the same surname, you see?" she says before continuing. "My son here uses my maiden's surname before I got married to his father, that's why we have different last names."

When Emmie heard those words, she gently nodded her head.

"Also, you look a little nervous. Is it because you're thinking that we'll kick you out now that my husband and my son are home? If so, then you don't have to worry about it, dear. We already talked about it," Mrs. Crawford explained.

"I'm sorry for being a burden." Emmie with a defeated look on her face managed to lower her gaze. She's embarrassed thinking that she has to take shelter into someone else's family when she has her own house to call.

"My child, you're not a burden. I just couldn't let you live alone, especially now that Miranda and Alfred are gone," the woman says before putting one of her hands across hers.

"My wife told me about your situation. You can stay here as long as you want. We can help you to raise your child as well," Mr. Crawford said. Looking at her, after she bowed her head in shyness. After she heard the sounds of flip flops again coming into the living room, she immediately raised her head to see the reaction on James' face. It looks like he heard the words come out from his father's mouth.

After a while James' voice echoed in the living room, asking Mr. Crawford.

"What did you just say Dad? Did I hear it right? You're going to help her raise her child? Emmie is pregnant?" James asks one after the other.

His eyes were as round as a ball while Emmie couldn't help but have her heart pounding fast.

Does he suspect that it's his child she's bearing?
