Chapter 4

Chapter 4: School. . . As If

AJ's POV

I woke up feeling empty inside. I got off of the bed and went into the bathroom through the connecting door and took a quick shower. I put on an oversized hoodie and some high-waisted jeans with simple sneakers. Since my glasses were broken I only put on the contacts. I got my bag (which had some extra stuff in it) and made my way downstairs. I saw Mia and Ashton at the table eating.

"Morning" Mia said cheerfully.

I mumbled back the greeting and went to the door.

"Aren't you going to eat?" Mia asked

"Not hungry" I lied.

I was hungry but felt uncomfortable eating with these people. I went outside, down the driveway and made my way to the sidewalk.

"Hey" I heard someone say.

I turned around and saw Ashton Carter. Ashton flipping Carter. I ignored his presence and began walking down the sidewalk, sure that the bus does not come here. I walked for like ten minutes, taking the same route I did last night, but I was interrupted by the sounds of a car. Not just any car, Ashton Carter's black Chevy Camaro.

"You should get in" he smirked and revved the engine.

I was going to answer but I remembered last night and continued walking. He drove the car in front of me on the pavement blocking my path, earning an annoying groan from me.

"I'm serious" he demanded.

"And I'm serious about not going in. Not after you disrespected me yesterday and then shouted in my face and broke my glasses!" I snapped.

"I apologize for the first part but you made my mom worry and have all these crazy thoughts about what had happened to you" he justified.

"Whatever" I adjusted my bag strap. "I still refuse to get in with you. Bye"

"Wait. Wait, I'm sorry ok. I just- what if the killer is out there and looking for you. You never know, so let me drive you"

"Oh, you care now?" I raised my eyebrows.

He gave me a look and I sighed. "Fine,"

"Drop me by my house," I said and got in the back, not wanting to be near him.

"Why?" he asked.

"Just do it." I snapped.

He huffed and drove me to my house. When we got there I got out and ran to the garage and opened the side door so Ashton would not see my ride. I went to my slick black Ninja Motorcycle and grabbed my black and silver helmet which was on a shelf along with the keys and put it on.

I got on and opened the garage floor via remote (also on the shelf) and started it. But I didn't know Ashton was still there in his car. The engine roared and I closed the garage and put the remote in my pocket. Ashton's face was priceless!

I laughed, shook my head and made my way to the street and zoomed off. I stopped at a light and Ashton pulled up beside me and I saw him smirk at me and rev the engine. He wanted to race. I waited for the light and then when it changed we drove off. We were neck and neck and Ashton was going to pass me but I sped past him and sharply turned down another road. I was not going to school, I need to think.

I was going to pick up some food from Starbucks for where I was going. I bought a couple of things to last me a while because of where I'm going. I got back on my bike and rode off. I got to the place in a matter of minutes.

I got off the bike and shut it off, I took my bag and left my helmet on. I made my way to the side of the building and climbed up the wall and jumped over and was presented to the swimming pool. This place is only open on the weekends, so I come here to calm mind. I would usually go to the beach, but only with Andromeda, it's like our twin thing, we go with each other to talk and fix any rifts between us. So when I need some me time I come here.

I changed into my swimsuit and stood at the edge of the pool and dove in. I sank to the bottom and stayed there for a while sitting on the ground, I could hold my breath for pretty long. My hair floated around me like Medusa's. Then I saw a body over the pool, distorted by ripples but was definitely a person. I'm caught, CRAP!

I cautiously swam up and saw Ashton standing there. I was horrified. This place is my private sanctuary no one's supposed to know I come here.

"What are you doing here," Ashton asked.

I did not answer him and went to the side of the pool and climbed out and walked to my bag and got my towel and dried off.

"I asked you a question," Ashton said.

I ignored him, giving him a blank look and got my clothes. I pulled on my jeans and shirt over my bath suit. I'm seriously lucky I kept on my contacts. I dried my hair with the towel and packed up everything. I put on my helmet and slung my bag over my shoulder and walked back to the wall and jumped over it again. I went to my bike, but before I could get on it I was pulled back and was face to face with Ashton.

"What's wrong with you?" he snapped.

I just climbed on my bike but he grabbed my bag and pulled me back.

He took off my helmet and rested it on the bike.

"What's your problem? Just talk to me!" He exclaimed. I just started into his eyes with hate.

"Listen you..." He said and pushed me back.

I landed on my butt and winced. He picked me up by my collar and held me up on the wall next to my bike. And unluckily, my feet were off the ground.

"I asked you a question" he spat venomously.

I trembled, I was never physically bullied before. My eyes fled with tears and I began to cry. What is it with him? Does he not understand that I just lost everything yesterday!

"I-I'm-" before he could finish I got on my bike and was long gone.

I rode down the highway and was not sure where to go. I heard the familiar noise of a car a saw Ashton following me. I took a turn but he followed me, I turned random corners but he was on my tail. The road was totally empty and on either side were thick groves of a forest. Ashton and I were the only people on the road. Then Triple D took over the driving.

I revved the engine and shot down the road, seriously felt victorious but I soon realized I ended up in a dead end. I saw an abandoned factory, a cool place to come and do my artwork. I was taken out of my daydream when I heard a car. Ashton came out and came up to me, just at the site of him I wanted to cry and get angry.

He walked up to me I stepped back until my back hit the chain fence and Ashton looming over me. I seriously need to move, I looked to my side and saw a tree and the branches stretched over the fence. I look off my helmet and put it in my bag.

"AJ pl-"

I cut him off and started running towards the tree. I quickly climbed up it and went on the branch leading over the fence and jumped down. I stared right in Ashton's eyes and turned around and went towards the factory.

I heard footsteps and realized that he followed me. I rolled my eyes and ran, I ran into the factory, it was huge. I ran up a flight of stairs and down a corridor and into a room and put my back against the wall and held my breath. I heard footsteps pass and I crept out and walked back down the corridor, then I felt an arm around my waist and I was back, I turned to face my capturer.

"Leave me alone Ashton," I said turning away.

"No, I'm serious. What's wrong with you?" he asked.

"Well I dunno, my family is dead and I'm am happy as ever, right. And now I want to be bullied by you" I said sarcastically.

He was about to answer but his phone rang.

"Hey....... WHAT!........How?.....How can that be?......OK, I'll come." he said over the phone and then hung up." We have to go."

"Why?"

"Triple Dare attacked the school last night, she put paint splashes all over the school but for some reason there exploding" he stated.

I mumbled a curse, "let's go then".

We walked back in silence, I got on my bike and raced to school.

When I got there Midwest High was raging in flames and I could see explosions happening. Ashton came up next to me and we saw the entire school by the main gate.

"I can't believe I did this," I said to myself.

"What?" Ashton asked.

"Nothing," I said quickly.

I climbed back on my bike and went home. I knocked on the door and Mia answered.

"Thank heavens your OK, I saw what happened on the news," she said hugging me.

"I'm alright," I said

"Oh, you'll need this to get in in the future," she said and handed me a key.

"Thanks," I said and put it in my pocket.

I went up to my room and flopped on the bed. "This is all my fault," I said.

I changed into a tank top and sweat pants and turned on the AC and then there was a knock on my door.

"Yes Ashton," I said answering it

"Well...." he entered and I closed in the door.
