CHAPTER 6: Home in the Dark

LOUIS

Through the mind link, a soldier declared, "We are under attack."

I answered almost immediately, "Keep moving." As soon as we entered the trap that had been set for us, they all became quiet. These attackers expressed feelings that I could feel.

Fury. Doubt. Anguish and despair.

These were not sophisticated killers. Everything they wanted was blood; they would not be satisfied with anything less. After I sent Zen the code, we launched a fierce attack. We killed them right away rather than waiting for them to. Nobody was to be spared for any kind of torture or questioning. That is what Zen had instructed. With my hands, I tore apart the man's jaw, causing his tongue to hang like a dog, just as he was about to strike me. Eventually, I handled a few more deaths before it ended.

After reporting the attack to the pack, we carried on with our journey. We were travelling to a different pack in order to form an alliance.

The Haugh Pack.

They possessed immense potential, yet they were deficient in certain areas that could have greatly benefited us. Therefore, we had to grasp this chance that had been placed before us. We were greeted with warmth when we arrived, and the meeting began sooner. After completing the first phase, we took a break. Jamal got to his feet with a brisk gait, and I sensed his awareness. He seemed to be in attack mode and remained in one place.

"What is wrong, Jamal?"

No response.

"Jamal, wait before I eject you."

"Try your hardest."

“Out”

“My territory? No”

He was much alert and I felt it so much I groaned. Eyes turned to my direction and returned back to their positions almost immediately. I pulled my attention to the meeting but Jamal’s pull was becoming stronger. An internal battle was going on and it was easy as Jamal took a great toil on me while I controlled myself to refrain him from stepping out. Blood was probably what he needed and I wasn't in the mood for such.

The meeting lasted two days and we had to stay in their pack before returning to ours the following morning. Formalities were addressed because we accepted civilization even though we were all beastal by nature. We shook hands with all present. It got to my turn and we both tested the limit of our strength.

With a smile that reached his eyes, he said, “Congratulations boy. You take after Quamir and most definitely Darius’s blood.”

He must have known my grandfather and was probably on name basis with him as he was known to be tyrannical in his younger years based on stories I heard about him. He was the grandmaster of Echo Park whether we liked it or not. Although, he had gone into reclusion after the death of his mate.

I was awake on my bed as Jamal made sure I was uncomfortable and restless enough when I heard footsteps outside my window. Another tap by the window confirmed my hearing. Turns out it was the chill wind that blew against the surfaces. By now, Jamal had sprang up with alacrity and was almost out. My claws were out and ready to attack, so I pushed him back, but he forced his hands out. I moved slowly and steadily to investigate what had actually happened when all of a sudden, a wolf with an intimidating appearance attacked me. He lunged backwards as I gave him a fierce scratch. We battled like sworn enemies by this point, with Jamal in complete control.

"He has taken drugs. Robust but naive.

Indeed. The eyes appeared twisted.

"Louis, stop restraining me."

"We need to exercise caution."

He leaped into the air and lunged at my eyes as he approached me. I quickly stepped aside as he smashed into the wall. Jamal got really irritated with this cunning attack and completely took control of me. As the struggle went on, Jamal attacked the wolf from all sides, causing him to grow weaker. The altercation had progressed to the point where it was taking place in the open field. Just as Jamal, towering over him, was about to deliver a deadly blow, the wolf suddenly dug his hands so deeply that I could feel the claws scratching my skin. His front legs became incapacitated instantly, resulting in a horrific scenario, as it set us off. I was coming back, I was coming back for my revenge.

We were losing blood.

It feels like something is off. It is possible that the drugs got in.

I accelerated to a speed I had never experienced before, having no idea where I was going. Far away, somewhere no one could see me in my most vulnerable state or identify me.

Despite his best efforts to remain tough, "Faster Louis" Jamal seemed to be panting.

We have been together for a lifetime; he was my wolf. The one thing I could fully rely on and my pillar of support was him. I had no intention of ending up like this with Jamal. We can not be killed by drugs because we are stronger than this. It was a death of shame.

This time, Louis, you will not be able to stop me when I exact my retribution. I would inflict even more damage on him; he would beg to die, but hell would force him to emerge from his darkest corners. Our partner has not been seen, and he tried to kill me. Our hearts and souls have already become one. Beloved and everything to me. Where have you gone?

Despite my waning strength, his persistence gave me the confidence to move forward more quickly. When I was at my lowest, I realised how much I needed my partner. The thought of it came as a shock because I hardly thought of her except for now. I was sorely missing her. I have been excited to begin our journey together because she is my missing piece.

When we arrived at a location, I maintained my composure and broke in without thinking about who was inside. I gave up trying to contain myself and fell in my wolf form onto the bed. The place greeted me with extreme coldness and warmth all at once.

It was Jamal who guided me to this place. I was too exhausted to transform back into my human form since we had both lost so much blood.

The world fell silent and closed into darkness as Jamal whispered, "Home."
