Chapter 1

**Dahlia**

"Dahlia, I've done my best to hide this away from you but I think it's better I tell it to you myself before it is ushered into the spotlight." My mum, Sandra said between sniffles as I gazed at her, looking all pale and cold as she sat on the other side of the bed.

" Mum, what's the problem?. " I asked.

Everything that had been happening lately confused me and it was elating to finally want to talk about it with mum.

It was heartwarming and prolific.

"Dahlia, I and your father is getting a divorce." Mum stated dropping the news like a nuclear bomb that had waited for years to erupt.

"What?" I yelled as I stood up from the bed hastily, shock written all iver me.

If there was anything I expected to hear from my mum, Divorce was at the bottom of my list and that's if divorce is even included because why should it?

"Dahlia, calm down. Your father had deemed it the best way to get out of the impending situation." Mum explained but I couldn't understand it.

"Divorce? Impending situation? It's funny why I don't understand how this words are related on this situation. You and Dad never quarrels and suddenly, Divorce. This must be a bad joke. " I stated but on seeing the defiance plastered on mum's face, I knew that she was been real and serious right here.

"Dahlia—" She tried reasoning with me but the shock that the news hit with was enough to cause a stroke patient to transit to glory.

"What offence did you commit that dad can't forgive?" I yelled as tears began pouring out of my eyes.

"It's not like that, he's tryijgto elvate himself from this eerie situation that we are all stucked in." Mum said and it kept falling pieces.

"Why do i think that there's more the all this story?." I questioned staring at mum suspiciously with tilted heads trying to get the full story out of he mouth.

" Dahlia, I have stage 3 cancer." She finally said and i could feel my entire world spinning.

"You're joking right?." I asked slowly as I walked backwards. I only stopped when my back eventually hit the wall.

"I'm sorry baby, we tried to hide it hoping it wouldn't escalate this much but the last check up we went for revealed to us that it had gotten worser." Mum explained as tears streamed down her eyes.

" Why didn't I hear of this sooner? Okay, that's not the main drill anymore.....what are we going to do?." I asked trying to pull myself together and be strong for my mother.

If she had stage 3 cancer, it only means that she needed my support as much as she could get because getting divorced at her age was equivalent to getting infected with high blood pressure.

"I don't know." As those words fell out of mum's mouth, a frantic knock came on the door and we both swerved.

The fear on our faces was to be matched with that of people in horror movies.

Like Dewey in Scream movie series!

Well, I eventually went to get the door and as I opened it, I beheld the stone cold face of my father.

He didn't look like the dad I had known for a while now, he looked different but the most stunning fact was....there was a woman and a girl who looked like dad anyways and almost my age if not older standing behind dad.

"Where's Sandra?" Dad asked glaring at me.

It was like his eyes would pierce through my soul and rip out my heart eventually.

"She's inside." I said managing to control my emotion but before a pin could drop, dad pushed me out of the way paving space for him and the unknown people to get into the room.

"Ouch!." I screeched as I landed with my butt.

"Excuse me Mr but I'm not the one you have a problem with." I yelled as pain registered all over my body.

He isn't my dad any longer so he had no right to inflict pain on me, he was getting divorced with my mum after all.

"Sandra, sign the papers!." He growled like a wolf and tossed some paperwork on my mum.

"I'll sign the papers definitely, but who are they?." She asked gesturing towards the lady and presumably her daughter.

"This is Mary and Monique, my new family." He said with a tone of haughty disdain for the fact that my mum was questioning him.

"Okay, now I have to say something." I started getting closer to them as I threw a hard glare to Monique, the girl to get out of my way.

"You and mum isn't divorced and you already have a new family, which means you've been infidel all this while huh? Because I'm guessing this is your daughter and my step sister." I asked as I stared at him.

"Unfortunately, your guesses are correct Dahlia." My dad, Radriel said with a sigh.

Mom's mouth fell agape as she gasped. Gosh, this girl should be older than me which means he already had her before getting married to mum.

On a normal circumstance, I would have loved to drag the matter longer than it already was but somehow I stopped myself.

It didn't matter, they were getting divorced.

"Sign the papers!." He yelled ad he lifted my hands to hit my mum but got the glare of his life.I loved mum, even if she as dying you could t treat her like trash... You'd definitely get it back ten folds.

"What are my supposed to sign with? My blood? Don't you have a pen with you?." She asked and placed her hands on her forehead.

He groped around his pocket and finally found pen which he offered to my mum and after mum went through the divorce agreement, staring at him with a hazy look...

She signed the contract.
