Noticing her phone ringing, Kyla quickly excused herself to take the call. "I'll take the call first," she said with a smile.
Edward nodded, but his gaze was still fixed on Kyla. Curiosity overcame him, and he couldn't avoid the strange feeling that kept bothering him. The long-awaited opportunity came when he heard Kyla's conversation with someone on the other end of the line.
"Stopping our company partnership? Why?" asked Kyla, surprised.
Kyla sighed, listening to the phone seriously. "Alright," she replied after hearing the explanation.
After the conversation, Kyla sat back in her chair, disappointment visible on her face. It felt like there was no hope anymore.
"I've heard everything. I can help you, but there are conditions," Edward said quietly.
"Conditions? Never mind, Edward. You can go now. At first, I wanted to keep you, to promote you so that you would resign from the company, but seeing the condition of the company now, it's better for you to just leave. Now go, meet the HR department to collect your remaining salary," Kyla replied firmly.
"I can be the new investor in this company,"
"An investor?" Kyla was surprised. "Yes, I can become an investor in the company. with twice as much investment as before." Edward explained.
"Alright, let's put it this way. You can ask me anything about forgetting about being an investor. Now, what do you want to ask?" Kyla nodded, giving the opportunity.
"I want to know the origin of the pendant you're wearing," Edward asked seriously.
"Pendant?" Kyla was silent for a moment, then answered. "It's not the real one. It's a fake."
Edward was surprised to hear that, but Kyla's explanation slightly changed his outlook. There was hope emerging.
"The real one was lost a year ago in an accident. I got this pendant from someone who saved me from a terrorist attack. He was a soldier. We met briefly, but unfortunately, he passed away. This is the real one," Kyla showed him the pendant photo on her phone.
Edward felt a little cheated, realizing that the woman he had helped was not Elisabeth but Kyla.
"Why are you asking about this?" Kyla asked, confused by Edward's change in demeanour.
"No, it's nothing. Like I said, I'm going to invest in your company," replied Edward, trying to calm the atmosphere.
After that, Edward got up and immediately called his assistant, Lee. Kyla watched Edward, who was talking on the phone. There was a sense of familiarity that bothered her, like someone she had met, the Army, but it couldn't be that he was dead; at least that was the house she heard,
Shortly after, Edward returned to his seat. "I've contacted my assistant, and someone who was sent will contact you."
"Assistant? You mean?" Kyla asked, surprised.
However, before Edward could explain further, Kyla's phone rang again.
"She's a messenger from my assistant, calling you to discuss the investment I promised," Edward said, getting up and leaving without explaining anything more.
Outside, Edward met Steven, who greeted him with a sardonic smile.
"Hey, look who's here. I heard you wanted to resign. Good, at least I don't have to bother firing you," Steven said mockingly.
Edward only smiled slightly. "Well, at least you don't have to see a coward like you."
"Coward?" Steven chuckled, his tone full of contempt. "You didn't misspeak? That sentence suits you better."
"That's right, baby." Another voice suddenly rang out. Elizabeth came over to them, wrapping her arms around Steven. "If he weren't a coward, he wouldn't have left. He only ran away after realizing that he had lost the game."
"Game?" Edward chuckled, unable to believe what he had just heard. "So, you think this whole thing is just a game? Well then, congratulations. You've won this game with nothing to show for it."
Elizabeth's face turned red with anger. "Stop being so arrogant, Edward! Who do you think you are? You're just a poor man with nothing. What can you do? This is all a charade. You must have hired actors to pretend to be successful, hoping I would regret leaving you!"
Edward looked at Elizabeth sharply, a cold smile etched on his face. "There are no actors I can pay, as you said. A poor man like me, what can I do? And who would want to work for free?"
"Maybe you're selling your worthless self!" Elizabeth retorted mockingly.
Edward approached, his voice cold as ice. "I would never stoop so low as you, Elisabet. You may be proud of what you have now, but the one thing you can never have is true happiness. You will never have it. And yes, I did resign because I don't want to see a disgusting woman like you again. My eyes are too precious to see an imposter like you who got me trapped in this ridiculous marriage."
"Impostor? A silly marriage?" Elisabet smiled sarcastically, though there was humiliation in her eyes. "So, you finally figured it out. Yes, I am indeed not the woman you were looking for. I married you because I thought I would be happy living with a man like you. You're so handsome that it made me stupid enough to agree to this marriage. But now I realize Steven is much better than you in every way."
Edward stopped his steps when he heard a woman calling his name urgently.
"Edward, wait!"
Everyone, including Steven and Elisabet, turned their heads towards the voice. Kyla was seen running a little closer to Edward. Kyla's sudden action surprised everyone, including Edward.
"Kyla?"
