Chapter 4: Declaration of War II

The young man's eyes widened and he grew even paler. His mouth opened and closed as if he wanted to say something but didn't have the strength to say it.

"I-I c-can't say it. M-my family, he'll kill them I-"

"And you think I won't?"

The room went silent. My jaw locked in shock and my whole perception of my boss was altered. What is she saying?

"Ma'am you can't do that, they're innocent!"

"You are not in the position to tell me what I can and can't do. This man should've known what would happen if he dared to cross me. Now tell me, man! Or your family won't hear the end of it!"

The man choked and he forcibly opened his lips.

"I-It's all pretend. H-he sent you an invitation and organized a party after he hired men that would act as robbers and kill you so the blame wouldn't be on him." The man said, his voice shaking terribly.

"Good, now go and don't let me see your face again."

"But my family, how can I help them?" The man asked.

"Go home. Take your family somewhere else," Merrylia drew out a thick amount of money from her purse and threw it at the man. "This should be enough." The man accepted the money and ran like the hounds of hell were chasing him.

"He wants war? I'll give him war." Merrylia muttered under her breath. She turned to Drake and gestured him to go outside.

"Send some men to follow him, Drake. Escort them until they're out and far away from here."

Drake left immediately after securing that no one else is looking, leaving me and Merrylia on the room. Merrylia turned to leave, I was about to follow her when she motioned me to stop.

"No, once I come out of this door all eyes would be on me. They can't see you coming out of here too. I'll go alone." She said, still facing the door.

"Then where should I go?" This time she looked at me and pointed at the small window on the corner of the bathroom.

"There."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Five minutes later, I emerged into the room once again. I had a hard time forcing my shoulder out the window that I almost got stuck. I went back to my seat and smiled politely.

"Did I miss anything?" I asked, noticing the change in the atmosphere.

"Yes," replied the wife of one of the business men on the table. "Ms. Desilvia was just finished giving a speech at Mr. Wilfred's request."

I fought the urge to raise my eyebrow and looked at Mr. Wilfred on his table. There is a small crease on his forehead and the muscles on his jaw is clenched. Maybe he's not happy with Merrylia's choice of words. A minute later, Merrylia arrived and I pulled her chair for her.

"So, is everyone enjoying this night?" Suddenly a voice appeared behind us. I looked behind me and saw Mr. Wilfred, his eyes glowing with anger. I flashed a smile at him and nodded.

"That's good, considering how much I want to make this night memorable for you."

Right after he said that, the lights flickered. Slowly the lights all faded. Before it came to pitch black, I held Merrylia's hand and pulled her to me. Complaints filled the air, making it hard for me to understand any words they've said. I started leading Merrylia away when I heard something faint not very far from us. A gun being cocked. Before I can even tell Merrylia to run, she was already dragging me. Despite of the darkness, we were able to make our way behind the curtains.

"Jackson, they already started. Send the men in." Merrylia said through the device and I heard a click. Merrylia took my hand and placed something on it.

"They're glasses. Put them on." I wore the glasses and blinked a few times. It's a night vision. I looked around and saw men wearing black darting across the room. Some of them were around the table we sat on and was searching for something.

"This is a badly disguised attempt for murder. Mr. Wilfred and his men seems to not have a brain in between their ears." We moved across the room, ducking behind chairs and avoiding the flashlights the men have brought. I pulled down the safety of my gun. There were about 14 men, all huge and muscular and heavily armed.

I have always known that owning a company is hard but never did I expect things like this under woman's employ.

"Find that damn woman, you stupid fools and put a bullet on her head pronto!" The largest of the group yelled to his comrades and the entire place shook with his loud booming voice.

"Silence, you brute! You will alert her with that voice of yours!" One of them replief in a hushed voice.

"Someone seems to have some brains on his head." Merrylia muttered in front of me. We crawled forward and began to inch closer to the exit when a voice whispered.

"Wait, why is that cloth moving?"

It was one of the men. I looked around to see what he meant. I was about to go on when Merrylia spoke.

"Don't move."

What? I was about to ask her why when I felt something on my leg. A piece of cloth got tangled on my trousers and I was dragging it across the room. Damn it.

I gently reached for the dagger beneath my coat and started to cut the cloth. I heard shuffling feet and I cut it more vigorously.

"Go check it, Damian."

The footsteps moved closer and the cloth came lose. I barely had enough time to duck behind a large post before the man stood exactly where I was laying on a second earlier.

"They're not here!"

The man was about to turn and leave when the doors bursted open and many armed men, including Jackson, entered the room. Mr. Wilfred's men barely had a time to scream when silent bullets rained down on them. They fell down like dead flies and collided with the floor with a thump.
