WHY LATE?!

"Arrgh!" Surely this day couldn’t get any more frustrating… She'd already woken up late and had run into a smoking kitchen after showering to find her toast thoroughly burnt and now she just stubbed her toe on the chair while trying to wear her shoes. "Okay universe, I get you're trying to test my patience but please now is definitely not the time" she shouted whilst waving her hand to no one in particular. She left her cozy apartment with everything but a smile on her face. She was remarkably late she knew exactly what her boss was going to say to her 'Emma Hitler you're remarkably late, would you rather I fire you or hire someone to help you hurry up" … She knew this not because she had been late a lot of times but because she had always been early enough to witness others get roasted with the exact same words. She would have to walk down to the café on Main street today, not that it was that far, just a few blocks away. The more reason she was sure she'd get an efficient tongue lashing. ''Fancy working in a café, at least I'll get a free cup of coffee as usual, " she thought to herself . She was just as grateful as anyone in her situation would be … a twenty-two year old with no literal social life working her ass out to make ends meet when she could as well be shaking her ass on a yacht every weekend. Well, this wasn’t the time to daydream about what her life could've been like if she'd had generational wealth. She had a freaking job to get to, not to mention the fact that these shoes were definitely not made for walking .

"Hi Emma, trust me when I say you're definitely in trouble, like where the actual f*** where you and where did you leave your phone, it has been sending my calls to voicemail, some shit about you not being available. You didn’t take my advice 'LET LOOSE' this seriously, did you? Oh, Emma I meant only at the cluuubb!!! Which reminds me, yesterday was lit…" Iris rattled on. Emm really didn't need to hear Iris' chatter now. Iris was a colleague of hers in the café, they'd always found a way to get along with each other for two years and hopefully counting...they understood each other and that’s what mattered the most and on days when work seemed too stressful, like they always say…a little gossip wouldn't hurt."…anyways they kissed and you needed to see it, they looked like spinning the bottle didn’t do enough justice to what they had been holding back, you know what yeah, I bet you they’ll be walking hand in hand soon. Maybe try coming for these after-work drinks. That reminds me, I meant to tell you we had a meeting this morning that just ended a few minutes before you checked in.."

"Iris, you didn’t think it would have been wiser to start with this piece of information? I appreciate it though but I'll need privacy to drink my cup of coffee, thank you" she said with a weak smile. "C'mon Emma, you can fool any other person but not me. What's with the attitude this morning, you're usually bugging for a chat while taking coffee and you seem unusually dull today".

"Sorry love, today didn’t start beautifully but I guess it was wrong of me to take it out on you, I'm sorry but I really need serenity now, thank you" she said with an obviously fake smile followed by a genuine and satisfying yawn. "Hey I'm sorry to hear you're really stressed out, maybe I'll check on you later and if you need anything please don’t hesitate to call me, see ya", Iris said and quickly weaved her way through already waiting customers to the back of the café. She finished her coffee as quickly as possible and just when she finally reclined into her seat to begin work for the day, she realized how wrong it was of her not to report to her boss not only for being late but for missing an important meeting she hurried to his office entrance door took a deep breath and knocked three times, waiting for the 'Come In'. She walked in to see her boss working with a lot of papers that she could tell they were bills from her standing position.

"Good morning sir, about this morning, I wanted to explain to you…" she said while thinking of the most reasonable excuse except the universe just picking on her this morning.

"Emma" he had called her in a low voice and she could not tell if it signified pity , disappointment or fury. He stood up walked round his table to her … but she knew what was coming ,shed rehearsed this scene

"Emma Hitler you're remarkably late, should I fire you or hire someone to help you hurry up"

"Well sir if you hadn't noticed before this is my first time being late couldn't you have at least asked me what went on, if I'm ill or in or was in ER this morning but no ,you'd rather feast on your ego and show your superiority by bashing me? oh please shame on you "

"EMMA! I was asking how you were, you don’t look okay and it's definitely not normal for you to be late "dragged back to reality by the words of her boss ,she replied,"Oh, Mr. Oliver I am fine I'm fine, I just wanted to apologize for my lateness and absence to the meeting. "

"Ah, the meeting. I see you've been told, well were you told of the matters discussed ?"

"No, not really sir."

"Okay, well, not to take any more of our time here, you know how we run this café and how it is sometimes rented out and used for business meetings?"

"Oh yes, but we do host these events most of the time, if I'm not mistaken sir"

"That’s right Emma but this one is on quick notice . We will be receiving a really important guest and that day needs to be perfect, this particular guest is a billionaire and doesn’t condone mistakes so everything from the décor down to the dishes have to be to his taste, though I doubt he will have any meal, he might even decide not to come and send his representative. All in all that day needs to be neat and I'm entrusting this duty to you to oversee the preparations, any questions?"

"Yes sir, please when exactly is this day and this billionaires name" she asked, making notes in her head.

"Do not worry yourself with names or labels. I'll forward everything you need to know, you just need to make a budget and send it to me and the day is two days from now so I would like to see that budget before …say ten 0'clock." he said taking his seat once more.

Two days? how was she to organize everything in two days!!! …. "Now what are you still doing here? run along" said her boss looking up from his desk.

She walked down the hall to her office with her name written in small font under the label on the door with One word, No Two words on her mind…Two days…Two days …TWO F***ING days. Did Iris know about this already ugh. She had rolled her eyes more than twice already.

Liberica coffee bean, black mugs, black tea set, dark chocolate, white ribbons, cinnamon, sheep milk(is that even a thing ) … this certain guest just had to stress them for fun or did he really need all these, nothing as more annoying than one foolishly ugly pot-bellied billionaire throwing orders around in a café that is not his simply because he had the money. It was weird she didn’t even know this person but hated him already for his choice of character. His coffee had to be custom made, as his croissants. And his drinks or whatever drinks they were to share were so expensive and she didn't even need to question why he had to make them buy German wine like what they had here wasn’t quality enough, uuuggghhh she already sounded like a vain self glorious elite snub. The list and details Mr. Oliver had just made her realize that these next forty-eight hours would be the closest thing to hell she'd face, not to mention the days following The ANDREA LUCA's visit. She had a lot of work to do. After costing all these she would still have to run to the mall to get them. At the rate this was going she wasn’t just a cashier anymore but also an event planner.

"Hey Donna, can you send a call through to the kitchen and bar, help me ask if they have any of these on this list, thank you dear. Hey Brian, nice of you to come in person, do you have any black cookware and tea sets in the storeroom … okay I'll put that down and what of any table clothes and oh white ribbons? alright thank you, get ready to leave for the mall with me after work " she said and swiftly slapped on the telecomm to its position after the last call, she had a lot more to go and the fact that her tummy had been speaking to her in several ways didn’t help matters oh how she wanted to cry and eat a plate of burger and fries.

"Emma" well just who could be screaming her name now and just as she spun her chair around

"Iris" she sighed "Thank heavens it's you and not another pile of work that I don’t get to take a deep breath from, what's up I just remem…"

"Woah woah hold on I knew the boss was going to let you handle some of this as he mentioned in the meeting but ALL of us know that’s more than they pay you for. To hell with all these' I trust you the most shit' at this point he's just using you. What is even wrong with his secretary, she just sits there all day looking pretty and by God she is pretty (sigh), but this is wrong" scolded Iris with her hands in the air.

"Iris, please I would really appreciate it if you channel all this energy into helping me pick up the waitresses' new uniforms. Is that chick fil-a bag in your hand? "her face had just lit up with glee at the sight of it.

"Yeah babe it's yours, I figured you'd be hungry and wait, why did you want to have me do that particular task? my man's finna come pick me up after work "

"Really Iris it is not that far, you and your man can pick it up together and drop it off at my place, I'd be headed to the mall with Brian to pick some things up to suit your so called billionaire's aesthetic, do you believe he's the reason the waiters and waitresses are getting a new uniform, it's absurd is it not?"

"It really isn't so bad, he has the money and he gets to spend it well. I wish I had that kind of money, I definitely won't be talking with you right now" Iris said with a sigh, "Well I really just came to hand you the chick fil- a. I would be going back now and I would help you with those dresses though. Bye for now and good luck with shopping without me"

Emma finally got back to work. She would have to close early today so she could make it to the mall before they closed up. She would make more calls and write a note to the head chef and baker in the kitchen and send money to the bartender to get the best German wine he knew
