She's safe now with Perseus and Cyprian."

S-They're dad? Where are they? What's going on ?!" I asked again and again and watched how his sweat dripped and turned to me.

I swallowed hard as he found me while looking at him. He could no longer answer when we heard gunshots.

I roamed my eyes and I saw an unfamiliar feature of a man wearing all black suit inside our mansion.

"Amade--" he pulled me quickly as we turned around.

Another gunshot escaped and I heard a loud scream of people inside our mansion.

I'm so confused! I don’t know what’s going on but I can say something is wrong.

Those gunshots. My family. The event.

Everything is messed up!

The many questions that were on my mind. Is it because of my dad's rival in politics?

I'm fully aware that we're at stake right now. And not just now so there are always bodyguards surrounding the entire mansion.

I am confused why and how did they get in. And now there is a celebration with us.

It would be a controversy! I am now expecting that it's all over the news tomorrow!

There are so many witnesses that it is impossible for no one to speak.

I know that the Clemontes and El 'Rousseau are very influential so they can cover up what's happening right now but can't they see?

My heart is beating so loudly and maybe because of nervous. It feels like I am hyperventilating right now but I saw it.

I don't understand but I've seen an emotion glinted on his set of blue eyes.

"You won't leave me don't you?"

Her lips parted and she swallowed immediately.

"I..I can't tell."

I can feel the tension between on us. But I don't understand and I can't tell why I am seeing a familiar expression in his eyes.

I am good in terms of observing people. But I hope what I have in mind is wrong.

I shut my eyes because of frustration but I immediately open it. His gentle gaze opened on me.

"Save them for me please," I commanded weakly and ignored what he said.

My family is still important to me. I know they didn't treat me as their own but I don't want something will happen.

My men already know where we are. Just stay here and don't let them catch you. If something might happen, just use this."

My face paled as he lend me a gun.

Ethel. Look at me." My lips trembled as I looked up at him.

I never used this but I have no choice. I left no choice and I need to protect myself.

I took his right hand and held it tightly. I knew that he can feel the coldness of my palm and that's because of nervous.

Whenever I am nervous my hand gets cold.

I know we're not in good terms. I know that you don't like me but please, just tell me everything. I won't force you to like me anymore," I said for a long time, licking his lips.

His lips parted and in a quick movement, his jaw clenched.

He seems so angry.

"Who says that I am mad at you?" he growled that made me blinked twice.

I am not really a Clemonte nor part of El 'Rousseau. I am labeled as a disgrace.

I was about to speak when I felt something cold focus on my head.

Silence engulfed us. I could feel the strong pounding of my chest. I am sweating and as I closed my eyes, I silently prayed.

I looked at my hand which is now filled with a small gun given by Amadeus.

This is the only chance.

I said put your gun down! You don't want to? I'm really going to blow up this woman's skull!"

I heard how Amadeus dropped off his thing and a man behind my back just laughed.

My lips parted especially when other blackened clothes came out of nowhere.

A group of men in black just popped out from nowhere and they're all holding their guns which is already pointed at him..At us.

Look who's deceived now. Do you even know what elite will react if I killed his woman in front of you?"

I swallowed hard because of a sudden turmoil. I saw how Amadeus' hands balled into fist. Please resist.

As much as I want to go near him, I can't. All eyes are on us and one wrong move, we will die.

The more the gun focused on me, the heavier my chest became.

Tears started to form in the corners of my eyes.

Don't touch her." I heard Amadeus said but this man behind me only laughed.

He chuckled after Amadeus sudden outburst.

Gradually the shock deepened on my forehead as I listened to them but no one spoke.

I slowly nodded. But my mind is telling me not to do his plan so before I obliged, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

Suddenly, Amadeus immediately grab and pulled me over him. He started to pull his trigger and shot those mens who started to shoot a tons of bullets on us.

I heard him cursed as I saw her left arm, bathing with his own blood. He was shot.

Their guns started firing, aiming at us.

I gasped an air and before I could speak, he immediately grabbed me over the abandoned house of our village.

"Amadeus, you have a gun right!" I panicked as I put him over the dusty floor.

Because of nervous, I forcefully ripped the hem of my dress to cover his bruised arm but his words suddenly made me stunned.

"Leave me."

The look I gave him was unbelievable even as I continued to wrap the cloth around his arm.

"No. I won't leave you," I firmly said but he only held my both shoulders.

"Ethel, look at me." He made me look at him but I am a little bit irritated.

Is he already brainwashed? He wants me to leave him here for what? Bait?

You have to escape now. Or else you'll die."

Are you crazy ?! You want to leave me alone here ?!" I fired when he's still on a verge of explaining himself but he calmed me by looking into his eyes.

He paused for a while as he saw my eyes— covered with unshed tears and he wiped it using his fingers.

I don't care!" I cut him off. "I want to be with you. I don't want to leave you here!"

"You have to. You are the target!" He easily stroked my cheek to get my attention.

Suddenly, confusion ate my whole system

"What do they need from me? I'm not doing anything!" I insisted but he just sighed.

I want to laugh because we are tslking like we're that close friends but I can't.

The fear that engulfed my system was more prevalent.

"Ethel, the only thing you should do is to trust me," he uttered softly and as I lifted my eyes, I only shook my head which made him sigh.

How are you?" I asked him weakly.

But Do you trust me?" he cut in and I fell silent.

Of course I did. Even we're not in good terms, I still did. I trust him.

"All you need is to trust me with this. You have to be alive."

Tears dwelled up. I need to be alive.

I have to?Why?

All I know is that, Amadeus is the one who needs to be alive because he's the heir of El 'Rousseau.

He is the one to be taken care of but why me?

"Sir, they're nowhere to be found." I heard a voice said outside that made us stopped.

Find it! It's definitely not far away! You need to kill that woman as soon as possible!" angry shout of another voice that made me stand up.

You need to escape now, Ethel." I only realized when I looked back at him. He quickly pulled me back to where there was another door.

He looks so pale. Even his lips are. He's already sweating and pain is visible on his eyes that made my heart clenched.

My hands were shaking as I ran to him and hugged him.

I hugged him tight and a single tear escaped from my eyes as I put my face over his shoulder.

I felt his arm as he also led me to hug.

I'm so sorry. And thank you so much. Please keep yourself safe." My voice broke and I felt him nodded.

I'll find you." He whispered slowly and I was shocked because he planted me a kiss over my forehead.

W-Why?" I asked in shock but his eyes remained serious.

I looked down at his neck. He started to remove his necklace that made my forehead crumpled.

What is he doing?

If I am not mistaken, it's a heirloom necklace. That shouldn't go away.

It is valuable object that is owned by their lineage for many years and passed from one generation to another.

It's a special value. Now that he's the one who'll inherit their legacy's properties, they gave him that.

So my jaw dropped even more when he put it on me.

W-What are you doing, Amadeus? This is not for me. This is for your fiancé!" I exclaimed.

Why is he giving this to me?

"Happy birthday, Ethelred. That's my gift," he uttered in a low voice and shock was visible on my face.
