Troublemaker

When Lucian finally came in, he was wearing a t-shirt and boxers. He paused at the door, his eyes narrowing on me.

“Did Orion give you any trouble?” he asked, his voice low and gruff.

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “He’s been nice to me.”

Lucian let out a breath, relaxing. “Good,” he said, moving towards the bed. “Did you eat?”

“Yes. Orion brought me up some food.”

Lucian sat down, his eyes still fixed on me. “What else did he do?” he asked, his voice low.

“Nothing,” I said. “He just sat down and talked to me.”

Lucian frowned and stood, pacing the room. “Tell me if he tries to hurt you again.”

I watched him, feeling a small bit of fear in the pit of my stomach. Was Lucian going to hurt Orion if he found out he had been helping me?

“I’ll let you know,” I said.

Lucian stopped pacing and came back to the bed, pulling me onto his lap. “Do you need anything?”

“No,” I said, feeling a bit of a tremble in my voice.

Lucian frowned, his hand reaching up to rub my cheek. “You’re still scared,” he said. “I should have protected you better. I should have come sooner.”

I nodded my head against his chest. “You didn’t know.”

“No,” he said. “I didn’t. But it’s okay. You’re safe now.”

I let him hold me, feeling more and more fear as I realized I was trapped here with two monsters. One that wanted me alive, and one that would probably kill me if he found out I was helping myself.

I had to stay alive. I couldn’t let either of them kill me.

I felt Lucian kiss my forehead, his thumb rubbing circles on my cheek.

“I’ll come up later tonight,” he said. “If you need anything, just tell me.”

I nodded my head, trying to fight the fear.

“I’ll see you then,” he said, standing. “Stay safe.”

I watched him walk out, his scent already in the air. I stayed there for a few minutes, listening to his footsteps fade away.

And then I knew what I had to do. I had to escape this nightmare, no matter what it took.

I got up off the bed and walked to the window. I looked out into the darkness, remembering Orion’s words about the underground bunker.

I remembered that there were still weapons in there. Weapons I could use to get away.

I moved away from the window and started looking through the mansion, trying to find anything that could help me.

But all I found was Lucian’s office with his desk, laptop, and chair. I moved towards it, pulling up his files.

Most of them were about his work and the pack, but there was one titled ‘Orion’ that caught my eye.

I clicked it open, my eyes widening as I scanned through the contents.

The first thing that caught my attention was the date. It was about four years ago. And the subject was about Lucian going crazy.

I read the report, trying to make sense of it. And then I realized that it was the same night I had been attacked. The same night that my pack had been killed.

Lucian had snapped that night. He had gone after me, but Orion had stopped him.

I continued to read, my heart starting to race as I got closer to the end of the document.

And then I found it. The reason Orion had stayed behind, the reason he had helped me.

“Seraphina is an Omega, and she’s been claimed by her pack Alpha. We need to make sure she’s safe now that Lucian has lost it,” it read.

I read it again, my mind racing. Lucian had killed my pack Alpha, and Orion had taken over as pack leader.

He had done it to keep me safe, to protect me from Lucian.

But now I knew what I had to do. I had to get out of here before Lucian found me. And I had to get out while Orion was gone, so he wouldn’t stop me.

I stood up, making my way through the house. I knew where the underground bunker was, and I knew where the weapons were kept.

I would go there, take what I needed, and then run. I would never stop until I reached safety.

I made my way downstairs, my heart pounding in my chest. I heard something behind me and froze, waiting for Lucian to appear.

But it was just Orion. He stood in the doorway, his eyes narrowing on me.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

I turned to him, holding my hands up. “I’m going to get some stuff from the bunker,” I said. “I’ll be back soon.”

“Why?” he asked, his tone soft but his eyes hard.

“I have to escape,” I said, shaking my head. “I can’t stay here anymore. I have to get out, no matter what it takes.”

Orion’s face softened, and he stepped into the room. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked.

I looked away, not wanting to reveal anything about how I had found out about the document. “I just need to go,” I said. “Please, let me go.”

Orion nodded and held out his hand. “Give me your keys.”

I handed them over, my eyes filling with tears. “I love you,” I whispered.

“I know you do,” Orion said, squeezing my hand. “You’re going to be okay.”

I let go of his hand and walked out, heading towards the bunker. I knew it was risky, but I had to do it.

I had to get out of here, no matter what it took. I would never stop fighting until I reached safety.
