This time, Tim was aware that he heard her clearly and walked quickly to her.
“Get the car keys. I need to see the doctor.”
“Okay," he answered, took a critical look at her, and was startled.
He quickly got the car keys and helped her to the car. As she tried to open the door, she experienced another contraction and leaned on the door.
“Big cousin, are you sure you can drive?” Tim asked with concern.
On The Road
Denise was driving when a truck stopped abruptly in front of him. It was so sudden that he was unable to avoid it, and he hit it. Instantly, his car veered off the road and somersaulted forty-three times in the bush. To his surprise, he was conscious of his surroundings, but he could not get out of the car, which had squeezed due to the effect of the tumbling.
At that point, he saw four men whom he termed as good Samaritans. He thought that they were there to help him get out of the car and smiled at them, but they were not smiling. With their hard faces, they pulled him out of the squeezed car not minding whether he would be injured or not.
“Thank you, gentlemen," he appreciated them.
They ignored his appreciation and began to take him farther into the bush. Now, Denise was lost in where they were going, and he could not ask questions. So, he obediently walked with them.
At The Clinic
Now, Dr. Steve Harper was disturbed that Denise had not shown up since his wife arrived and decided to call him. To his surprise, he did not pick. So, he called the President at once.
Arthur and Nichole had finally married and were at home after they returned from work. They were chatting in the bedroom while responding to proposals when Arthur got the doctor's call.
He quickly picked it up and greeted him leisurely, “Hello, Dr. Harper. How may I help you?”
“Good day, President. Your daughter-in-law is in labor. I have tried the Young Master's line but he was not picking up his call.”
The two points that Dr. Harper raised were too much for him to process but his wife's screaming helped him.
“Preterm labor? Let's go,” Nichole said happily.
She got up from her seat and dressed up at once. After her husband did the same thing, they left.
'Why is Denise not picking up his call?' Arthur mumbled as he drove along.
After Freya posted the pictures of cute babies on the family platform without any comment because she was rushing, Louis who was online, asked.
(What are the pictures for, Big sister?)
He was unable to get any response until late at night when his parents hit the bed. Then, his father responded.
(They are my latest grandchildren. Angel just put to bed.)
(I see.)
He shed tears of happiness and sorrow at the same time. By his calculation, her pregnancy was full-term
“I am glad that she did not abort my babies,” he told himself.
Now, he began to map out ways of claiming the babies.
“As for claiming the babies, that won't be a herculean task. They would simply release my babies while they continued their marriage. Losing her is enough loss to me.”
He concluded as the complainant and the judge at the same time. He looked at the time and figured out that it was already too late to make calls. So, he went to sleep elated.
At the Bailey International Conglomerates.
The next day, Louis got to the complex and walked straight to his father's office. However, he suspected that he was connected with Denise's attack.
Notwithstanding, he put his suspicions aside and received him, “Welcome, Louis. I hope that your trip was smooth.”
“Yes, Father.”
“That is good. Let's go to the clinic.”
“It is all right, Father.”
When they got to the clinic, the doctor took them to the ward, where they met Denise still sleeping.
He faced Louis and advised, “I will advise that we allow him to rest.”
“You are right, Doctor," he responded and began to walk out of the ward and headed towards the exit door.
“Thank you, Doctor," Arthur greeted him and followed Louis.
The doctor watched them as they walked out and wondered why he did not bother to check on his brother's wife or the twins.
They returned to the office and took their seats, and Louis asked, “How did he survive such an accident? I saw his damaged car.”
“From the information that I have gathered so far, it was a set-up," Arthur said and looked into his eyes for any trace of guilt.
“What do you mean by a set-up?” he asked anxiously.
"After the accident, he was kidnapped and we are still investigating.”
“Huh! Who would have done this?” He asked and his father pouted.
At the Clinic.
Nichole and Freya got to the clinic and discovered that Olivia's temperature was increasing and that gave them concerns.
“Angel, relax. You have cute babies,” Freya pacified her with a beautiful smile.
Meanwhile, Olivia had concluded that her husband had abandoned her and the babies because he discovered that Louis was her ex-boyfriend. Nevertheless, they were careful to inform her of her husband's conditions to avoid further crisis.
Then, she began to weep profusely and requested, “My husband. Where is my husband?”
To her surprise, her mother and sister-in-law were seeing it differently. They laughed heartily and Freya teased her, “Is that why you're running temperature? He came while you were sleeping, and the doctor advised that he should not disturb your sleep.”
Now, Freya's tricks worked. They observed that her countenance changed, and her mother-in-law added, “If you are calm, you will be awake when he visits again.”
“Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Auntie Freya. I will be calm.”
“You are welcome.”
“That is our Angel," her mother-in-law complimented her.
At the Bailey Native Home
They stayed briefly with her and left afterward. Now, they got home and met Louis and welcomed him. Nichole searched him as though she could dictate if he was responsible for Denise's plight.
“Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Big sister, for having me,” he appreciated them.
"You are welcome, dear," she said.
Freya spent some minutes with him and returned to her house
After dinner, he called out, “Father and Mom.”
“Yes, Son," Nichole responded while Arthur looked on.
“I would like to discuss with you," he requested.
Arthur dabbed his mouth with the serviette and asked, “I hope there is no problem?”
Now, his mother had gotten out of the dinner table and her husband stood up and waited for Louis’s response. When he got none, he joined his wife in the parlor and Louis took his seat too.
They waited for him to start, but his head was down, and his father reminded him, “Son, we are waiting.”
He raised his head and began by apologizing, “Father and Mother. I apologize for failing to live up to your teachings. I must confess that I failed you as a son.”
He went on and narrated all that he thought his parents were hearing for the first time. Then he ended with, “I am glad that she did not abort my pregnancy.”
He was bewildered that his parents were not surprised even when he talked about asking her to abort the baby.
After some silence, his father spoke, “What made you think that she did not abort your pregnancy?”
He switched gazes from his mother to his father in trepidation before he spoke, “By my calculation, they got married eight months ago, and now she had put to bed. I am certain that it was my pregnancy.”
“That is good to hear," his father pointed out.
Now, Louis was beginning to see the meeting as a walk in the park until his father spoke again.
“Do you mean that you would have aborted my grandchildren? Just like that? Assuming you were aborted, would you have lived?"
Without waiting for his response, his mother fired at him, “How did the woman you asked to abort your pregnancy at Seven Oaks end up as your brother’s wife in Dover?”
Instantly, he was disoriented and his thoughts wandered to how it all began.
