Chapter 2

Alisha's POV

How did he manage to know my name? What if he was lying? Why would the alpha king be interested in me?

"I've told you already that you have the wrong person. You must have mixed up our names. My name is Alisha."

I gave them a slight show and started walking away, when he said something that made me stand riveted to a spot.

"Your stepfather sold you to us."

I couldn't believe my ears. My stepfather? Why would he do something like that? I frowned in confusion.

"How do you know my stepfather?" I couldn't just believe him so easily.

He expelled air from his mouth in frustration as he scratched his head. "Miss Alisha, we really don't have much time here. The alpha king is waiting already. And he hates it when people make him wait. Please, come with us already."

"No!" I strongly refused. "I am not going anywhere with you until you tell me what business my stepfather has to do with the alpha king!"

"Alright, here you go. Your stepfather owes the alpha a lot of money and since he wasn't able to pay up, he promised to sell you in exchange for the settlement of the debt."

I couldn't believe my ears as he said this. Tears trickled down my face in massive waves. I had to see my stepfather. He couldn't possibly do that to me. He was probably drunk when he said that.

Even if he didn't really care about me, he couldn't be that cruel as to sell me off to a cruel alpha king.

I ran down home, tears flowing freely down my face. As usual, my stepfather was sitting outside with a bottle of alcohol in his hands.

"Where have you been since!?" He barked as soon as he saw me.

I wrinkled my nose as I wiped my face. "Mr Alex, please tell me those guys were lying."

He looked over my head, behind me, then back at my face. "Are you sick or something? What guys?"

I felt a tiny bit of hope. "Mr. Alex, some guys approached me and said some nonsense about you selling me off to the alpha king. I knew they lying, I only wanted to-----"

"Who said they were lying?" He interrupted.

I stared at his face in horror, suddenly feeling breathless. How could he be so cruel as to even do this to me? There wasn't even any sign of remorse on his face.

I gnashed my teeth, feeling my temper trying to surface. "Why did you do it?" I demanded angrily.

He scoffed. "Why else you bitch! Why are you questioning me!?" He raised his hand to slap me across the face, but a hand held his.

"Sir, you aren't allowed to touch her. The alpha king would love to see his breeder looking clean and neat."

It was the beta from earlier. I hadn't even noticed him. I swallowed hard in my throat as I wiped at the tears that were still streaming down my face. I couldn't believe what was happening. It all felt like a dream. How could he sell me to the alpha king who everyone feared for being the cruelest alpha alive?

Mr Alex was surely aware of everything people said about the alpha. About how he killed women after he had used them. Was he really trying to get me killed?

Filled with rage, I jumped at him and grabbed him by his collar, choking him. "Why did you do that to me? After everything I did to make sure I wasn't making you feel uncomfortable. I even gave you my life savings to settle your debts, but you still sold me to the Alpha?"

I felt so bitter, and more importantly, I felt like choking him to death. I squeezed my eyes shut as the emotions clawed at my heart and burst. I peeled my eyes open as he pushed me roughly.

"You crazy bitch! You are trying to kill me like your mother did. Why won't I sell you off? I've always told you that meeting your mother is what caused my misery. She brought me to the state. She made me this way!"

I collapsed to the ground as he said those hateful words about my mother. I began weeping. Why do I not deserve this kind of hardship?

"Please, Mr. Alex," I begged. "I will find a way to settle your debts. Just tell this man that you'll no longer sell me to them."

I crawled to see him and I grabbed his legs tightly.

"Please, Mr Alex. Please!" I begged, crying bitterly.

He glanced down at me in disgust as he jerked his legs free. "Get off me you bitch! I've got nothing to do with you anymore. I don't care if you're killed or whatever! Take the bitch away!" He kicked me hard in the stomach and went inside.

The pain shook my body violently and I had to check the urge to curse him. Beta Wren offered me his hand and I took it quietly. It was my fate. I would face it, but I would make Mr Alex regret ever trying to sell me off.

The drive down to the palace was an awkward one. I had different thoughts running in my mind.

They had called me a breeder, does it mean I'm like a baby machine for the alpha king? The cruel alpha who kills ladies like ants? What if it was all a lie, and he only wanted to kill me?

The car came to a stop and I stared at the luxurious palace that loomed before me as I got out of the car. So, this was it. The home of the demon that called himself an alpha king. But what if the rumors were not true? I wondered with a feeling of hope.

Wren led me into the palace. We walked into the inner chambers, getting side glances from the maids and servants who were working.

Finally, he stopped at a door and knocked.

"Come in." A very familiar voice said and I trembled slightly, feeling my body tingle with excitement as goosebumps covered my arms.

Well, not my body, it was surely my wolf. It was suddenly restless again.

That voice. I mused. I'm sure I've heard it somewhere. But where?

"You're not going to enter?" Wren's voice drew back my attention.

I entered the living room, feeling kind of uneasy. A man was seated on the chair and he had his back to us. I quickly reckoned he was the alpha king. I took a quick calming breath and expelled her slowly through my mouth.

"I see you are here." The man said and stood to face us. "Thank you, Wren. You can leave."

The door clicked shut behind me but I still didn't want to look up. I was trembling slightly, taking in several breaths to calm my nerves down. I heard footsteps approaching me and I quickly lifted my head, only to be shocked.

I gaped at his face in horror. The alpha king was the man who had saved me earlier in the woods.

Does that mean I was mated to the alpha king?
