Chapter 1: My Boyfriend Cheated

Today was my boyfriend Lucian’s eighteenth birthday. I bought some tiramisu and red wine, heading to his apartment to surprise him. I hadn’t told him in advance—this was my little secret. Today was special for me too. After six months of secretly dating, he had decided to announce our relationship on Instagram tonight! We were finally going public! Just thinking about it made my heart race.

I used the spare key Lucian had given me to unlock his door. As I stepped inside, I imagined how I’d bounce over to him like an excited puppy and wish him a happy birthday. He’d be thrilled to see me, especially since I’d dressed up. I wore a new black lace bra underneath a tight crop top and denim shorts. I’d even put on makeup—red lipstick and dark brown eyeshadow—and borrowed my roommate Evelyn’s perfume to complete the look. I wanted to be irresistible.

But as I walked, I felt a little awkward. My usual style was way more casual, and I’d never dressed this provocatively before. Still, for Lucian, I was willing to try. I was ready to spend the night with him, and he deserved something special.

Lucian's small apartment was fairly familiar to me by now. The entrance led to the kitchen and bathroom, and further in was the living area with a bed covered in light blue sheets—sheets I’d bought and laid out myself. He always said he loved that color.

As I approached, I noticed his bedroom door was open. I heard voices—he was talking to someone. I took a deep breath, plastering on my brightest smile. But when I stepped inside, my smile vanished.

Lucian’s back was to me. His muscular frame, which I'd always admired, was now hovering over someone else—a woman beneath him. Her breasts swayed as Lucian thrust into her, her moans growing louder with each movement.

“God, Vivienne, you’re amazing! You feel so good,” Lucian groaned, his voice thick with pleasure.

But Vivienne? That freaking cheer captain?!

“Mmm, you too, baby. Oh... Faster, can't you? Show me what you've got,” Vivienne gasped, clinging to him with a satisfied smirk.

What the actual hell? My boyfriend was screwing another girl on his birthday?!

Vivienne turned and saw me. She didn’t panic. Instead, she licked her lips, smirked, and pulled Lucian down for a passionate kiss.

Anger and sorrow crashed over me. I wanted to scream, but no sound came out.

They were drenched in sweat, but I felt an icy chill. My heart pounded in my chest as I stood frozen.

“Babe, looks like you have company.” Vivienne purred after Lucian’s final thrust.

Lucian, still catching his breath, followed her gaze and finally noticed me standing there.

“Seraph?” He pulled out, his cock still wet with their disgusting fluids. And that squelching sound made me want to vomit.

Lucian laughed, lying back on the bed as if this were some comedy show. “Seraph, what are you doing here? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

“What do you think? It’s your birthday,” I managed to say, swallowing hard. It took every ounce of strength to speak.

“Oh, so this is your girlfriend? Hmm, interesting taste,” Vivienne said, brushing her hair and reaching for her makeup. “I didn’t think you’d go for this type. I thought you were into Anna, you know, the one with the killer ass.”

I was stunned by her audacity.

She even critiqued Lucian: “Your boyfriend's got a hot body, but his skills? Not exactly five-star compared to my ex.”

“Vivienne!” Lucian looked embarrassed, but he turned to me, desperate to explain. “Seraph, wait...

“Seraph, wait... Vivienne knew it was my birthday, and remember my game last week? She just came over to celebrate—”

“Celebrate? In bed? Lucian, save your bullshit excuses! Go to hell, both of you!” I grabbed the cake and hurled it directly at them.

“Seraph!” Lucian dodged, yelling.

Vivienne screamed, jumping off the bed. As she was still naked, she had to grab the sheets to shield herself. I smashed what was left of the cake, throwing chunks at them, then grabbed the wine bottle, breaking its neck and splashing the red liquid everywhere.

“You crazy bitch!”

“Stop it!”

They scrambled to avoid my rampage as I grabbed clothes, hangers, lamps—anything I could find—and hurled them across the room. Even Lucian’s trophies and medals weren’t spared.

Vivienne shrieked in outrage, her perfect composure finally cracking.

Rage consumed me, drowning out any rational thought. My muscles tensed, and I was consumed by the need to destroy everything in front of me.

How could he do this to me?!

How could he?!

All men loved Vivienne. I thought Lucian was different. I really thought he was!

After demolishing the apartment, I turned and left. My carefully planned surprise night was in ruins. I’d imagined a perfect evening with Lucian—eating cake, drinking wine, making love, and basking in everyone’s congratulations when our relationship went public. But reality had sucker-punched me, shattering my illusions.

I rushed onto the street, unsure where to go, just desperate to get away from that apartment. My mind replayed those images of Lucian and Vivienne over and over. I ran faster, trying to outpace the mental pictures.

I nearly got hit by a car.

“Watch where you're going!” the driver yelled.

I fell to the ground, my foot throbbing, my purse spilling its contents everywhere. Total disaster. I sat there on the pavement, tears streaming down my face.

I’d taken the day off work, even though my boss was already pissed about how often I skipped for Lucian. Now, I knew I couldn’t go back. I felt like such an idiot. I should've known better than to dream about finding true love or happiness.

When I finally pulled myself together, I found myself in a corner of the Dive Bar. I reapplied my makeup, slapped on some temporary tattoos, and transformed into my bad-girl persona. This was the bar where I worked part-time. I sat at the counter, downing several shots of whisky. The burning liquid scorched my throat and numbed my nerves.

I wasn't much of a drinker normally, but tonight, only alcohol could dull the pain.

Nearby, laughter and chatter filled the air, but it felt like it was happening in another dimension.

“Hey, Seraphina, sure you don't wanna join the party? The Eagles Club is celebrating their big win,” Jack, the bartender, said with a wink.

Jack and I were close. He’d helped me a lot when I first started working here. Though he was twenty years older, I considered him a friend.

I shook my head. “No, I'm good.”

The Eagles Club was this fighting club full of hot, muscular guys. They were the most popular dudes in town, but they had zero to do with me. I hated noisy crowds. I only ever went to those kinds of things if someone dragged me.

Jack chuckled and poured me another drink.

After finishing it, I stumbled to the restroom, my head spinning. As I pushed open the door, I nearly collided with someone walking out.

He was drop-dead gorgeous—thick black hair, deep brown eyes, and an aura that was somehow both cold and inviting. He stood around six-foot-three, his black T-shirt stretching across his muscular build. His biceps were broader than my shoulders. He looked like Chris Evans—stunning and commanding.

His gaze locked onto me, and my stomach did a flip.

I realized who he was: Kael Emberwood, captain of the Eagles Club and an undefeated boxer. Since joining the club, he’d maintained a perfect win record. At twenty, he was practically a local celebrity, adored by every girl in town—including that Vivienne. Rumor had it they’d hooked up, and he was her favorite.

Suddenly, the memory of Vivienne and Lucian flashed in my mind. Looking at Kael now, my heart raced again, and my blood boiled.

“Wrong restroom?” Kael raised an eyebrow, his tone playful.

He was the town's golden boy and a notorious player. He had always been spotted at bars and known for his conquests. Surely, he wouldn’t turn me down I guessed.

I was actually pretty confident in myself and I was pretty sure I would not be any worse than that Vivienne.

“Has anyone ever told you how hot you are?” I murmured, licking my lips as I leaned closer to Kael, my hand sliding over his chest. Through his thin shirt, I could feel the firm muscles beneath, and the radiating heat. Kael’s body temperature was higher than anyone else’s I’d ever touched. Must be all that celebrating—this night was all about him, after all.

Not long ago, Kael had just beaten the top fighter from the neighboring town. The club had gone wild, and now they were all at the bar celebrating. When he noticed me approaching, he didn’t step back. Instead, his eyes locked onto mine, gleaming with interest, like a wolf spotting prey.

Encouraged by those eyes, I let my hand wander lower, tracing the hard lines of his abs. It felt like I was running my fingers over a solid wall. Damn, his body was the kind that could make any woman weak in the knees.

He grabbed my hand and guided it lower, straight to his crotch. I felt something hard and throbbing beneath the fabric—his cock. In an instant, it seemed to grow even larger, rigid and eager, straining against his pants. The sheer size of it was intimidating.

His breathing deepened, his eyes fixed on me—dark, intense, a mix of coolness and barely restrained hunger.

“If you keep this up, I won’t be able to control myself. I’ll fuck you right here in the bathroom,” he said.

“Maybe I just don’t care,” I replied, the alcohol making me bold. Something about Kael's body had already set me on fire. My underwear was soaked. The thought of doing it in the bathroom, with people just outside, hearing their voices—it was thrilling. Just thinking about it made my skin tingle.

How freaking wild would that be?

Kael stared at me for a moment, then pulled me into his arms. “Let’s go to my place,” he said.

And just like that, in a haze of alcohol and desire, I found myself in Kael’s apartment.

When he pulled off his shirt, revealing his sculpted torso, I suddenly felt a pang of nervousness. I was a good student, the bookworm type. In six months with Lucian, we'd only slept together once. Had he cheated because I wasn't adventurous enough?

Fuck that!

The alcohol had made me forget my insecurities before this moment. But now, faced with what was about to happen, I felt equal parts excited and terrified.

“What, you having second thoughts?” Kael asked, noticing the unease on my face.

“No, just a little nervous,” I admitted.

Regret? Not a chance.

Now all I could think about was Lucian and Vivienne tangled together in bed. Vivienne had taken my man, so it was only fair that I took hers. There was nothing to be afraid of.

Kael stepped closer, lifting me into his arms. I giggled, pulling his head down to mine, kissing him hard, even biting his lip a bit. His tongue slipped into my mouth, and I wrapped my legs around his waist.

We kissed like that—me clinging to him like a koala—as he carried me through the apartment. The apartment was dimly lit, the only sound our muffled moans and heavy breathing.

My arms tightened around his neck. His body felt even hotter now, almost unnaturally so.
