Chapter 1: King in Danger

"He's critical!" Reed hysterically mouthed.

Dylan's body is losing his pulse and heartbeat. Reed, his brother, was no longer able to keep his composure. He knew that his brother's condition is weighed in razor thin chances of surviving or not.

Inside the ICU, he can see Dylan's pale face seizure while fighting for his life. He couldn't do anything to help him. But outside the hospital, he's doing everything he can to do what responsibilities that the king left for the first prince.

It was a heavy obligation for a detective, but he has no other choice but to continue their mother's legacy. Bluemierre is still the head league. In the underground society, they can't let their authority escape the throne. They're the only mafia league with no intentions of black power and corrupted kingdom.

Doctors and nurses started to rush in, everyone were scared of losing their jobs. Kit, the son of the owner of Baroux Hospital, is a friend of Reed's co-detective. They knew of what might happen if they act recklessly or carelessly.

They prepared every equipment needed to revive Dylan's flatline. He's losing his heartbeat. It made Reed act more desperate.

"Save him!" He murmured his command.

They knew that they're catering the needs of the king and the first prince. One of the most powerful persons who secretly existed. A nurse who wasn't able to stand his presence decided to escort Reed out of the ICU.

Trembling, she walked near him.

"Sir, we'll handle your brother. You can wait outside." Nervously, she spoke.

Reed can see fear in her eyes, he didn't mean to scare her. He changed. To calm himself down, his eyes closed themselves shut whilst inhaling hospital air in his lungs.

After a few seconds, he opened his eyes. On his own, he went out. His shouting won't do anything good, it'll only trample the doctors. After walking out, he called his dad.

His fingers were as swift as flash. They need to know about his condition.

After a few rings, he picked up.

"Dad, Dylan needs you here." Reed's voice almost cracked, but he restrained himself.

It's hard but he needs to be strong for the people around him. He cannot be weak in times like this. There are a lot of people hoping in his strength.

'I'm coming.' Over the line, Langston spoke.

The call immediately ended. Both of them were busy attending to their own matters. Still, Reed couldn't cater all of the negative emotions in just a snap. He kept on walking back and forth as he listen to the footsteps inside the ICU.

"Clear!" The head doctor kept on reviving Dylan.

The apparatus sounded its flatline, Reed can hear it from the outside. He had enough, his tears flowed like rain. He can no longer hold it.

"Dylan, you can't die." In a frail voice, he murmured.

Reed can't imagine himself without Dylan. Their relationship is not as healthy as it is, but still, he can't afford to lose a good man in his life. Slowly, he inhaled and exhaled to calm his breaking nervous system down. His being is starting to collapse.

While breathing slowly, a nurse stepped outside and greeted Reed with a smile. Immediately, he knew that she has good news for him. Without wasting an agonizing second, the female nurse spoke.

"His vital signs are stable now." The nurse gave Reed a statement of assurance.

That was enough to make him sigh in relief. After all, Dylan is safe. After the nurse spoke, she left him in front of the door. His heart was screaming in joy, but it was immediately replaced by something unimaginable.

His forehead knotted as he stared at the corner of the hospital stairway. A familiar silhouette stood straight, glancing at him. It was a figure of a petite woman. Suddenly, his heart started pumping fast. He haven't seen such shadow for a very long time.

What he saw made him move closer to investigate. Half running, he went to confront the suspicious woman. But as he gets closer, the woman ran. But Reed didn't stop, he sprinted to reach her.

After securing the distance, Reed grabbed her arm. The jacket covering her body and face made it hard to recognize who was it.

"Stop." His voice was filled with command.

She knew that she needs to follow, she has no other choice. From behind, Reed forcefully made her look at him. But while she's in motion, the woman mouthed her complaint.

"Ouch Reed! For crying out loud it's just me!" Aisling exclaimed.

What she said made Reed roll his eyes. He got mixed signals. She couldn't blame him for acting weird, after everything that is happening right now, the most careful instinct is highly sensitive. Reed's a detective.

"What are you doing here young lady?" Reed asked whilst raising an eyebrow at her.

Her attitude, still cunning and feisty as ever didn't went down without a strong argument. She spoke her reason for escapade.

"I'm worried about Dylan, and that's none of your business." Aisling replied boldly.

She's not scared of the first prince, after all, back during their highschool days, she's not afraid of waging war at him. Dylecxia became a witness for their quarrelsome beginning.

"You know that it is dangerous, you need to be more careful!" His worrisome voice exclaimed anger.

His secretive yet obvious love for her is protective. With Sly still on the lose, no one is safe. Even Reed and Ren is in danger! So many problems are haunting them, and now, with Dylan nearly on his death bed, Reed is left alone. With all the burdens passed unto his shoulders.

Finally, Aisling felt Reed's care for her. His voice proved his point, he's just worried. Deep inside, it made her smile.

'Reed cares.' She mouthed inside her mind.

"I'll take you home after you see Dylan." Reed said in authoritive voice.

She couldn't break it, she's fierce yet she knows when to follow and when to disobey. The only thing she could do now is nod. After all, Reed's a control freak sometimes. But this time, his controlling appeals a strong point.

Aisling can't be abducted for the second time.
