CHAPTER FOUR: LUCIFER'S SON

I always obeyed my father’s will with delight. Lucifer himself. He didn’t send me out often but when serious matters arise, I was always the best fit. He sent me on an assignment, I knew it was serious.

My new assignment was, Malcom a high-ranking demon who betrayed my father. He made a deal with the beings we are supposed to despise. The Angels. He was now on the run, hiding on Earth.

“You know what must be done,” Lucifer had told me in his cold, thick voice. His eyes, black as void, showed no emotion. “Find him. Make him suffer.”

With that I left, taking on the assignment, disappearing from the school and the world I had blended into. My sudden disappearance raised questions, no doubt. No one really knew who I was and where I went off to. Most thought I was a rebellious teenager with ego.

Tracking Malcom wasn’t easy. I followed every lead and demon whispers I could get. And then finally, I got a hold of him. He was in a ruined catholic church that was hidden deep in the mountains. Malcom wasn’t weak. He had the strength of an ancient demon and cunning character.

When I got there, he wasn’t expecting me obviously. He behaved like a human shifted into human form, blending in with mortals. How pathetic he was. I shifted into my true form. Dark wings bursting from my back flames, the skin filled with dark flames. He saw my form and he still had the audacity to try and fight me.

Malcom wasn’t weak. He had been trained with his skills for over centuries, and I’ll admit, he put up a fight. But I was stronger, I always had been.

Fought for hours, I think. The skies above us was getting dark as our battle raged on. His attacks were fierce, series of dark energy were unraveling through the air, but I was cautious of my every move. Stronger.

“Xaphan, you fool,” he spat, his chest heaving. “Lucifer will never let you rise. He will keep you chained like a dog forever.”

I barely moved at his words; my focus unshaken. He was stalling, trying to distract me.

I took a step closer, summoning my own power, dark flames igniting in my hands. “You made your choice, Malcom. You should’ve stayed loyal.”

With a fast movement, I knocked him down to his knees, releasing my final surge of energy that weakened him. He crumbled to the floor, helpless.

The final blow came with ease from my wrist. His body withered away, leaving behind ashes on the floor. I had no use for his corpses. His spirit was all that was needed, and it would soon be delivered to my father.

When I presented the broken demon to Lucifer, his satisfaction obvious.

“Well done, my son,” he said, his voice like ice. “Now, return to the mortal realm. Your mission isn’t over yet.”

I shifted into my human form, masking my true appearance. As I needed to finish my assignment.

_____________

I returned to the school expecting things to be the way I left it. The demon world had its chaos, but earth, among mortals, everything was with differences and principles.

My mind still on the series of events the past few months. Heeding to my father’s assignment was exhausting, but it wasn’t my thing to be bothered anyways. Duty was duty.

I stepped into my room; a lot of things was off.

A new, unfamiliar scent was what hit me first. A floral fragrance that obviously wasn’t mine. When I looked around and immediately noticed clothes scattered on the floor. A girl clothes.

“What the hell?” I muttered under my breath.

I clenched my fists, boiling in anger as it flared up in my chest. No one had the right to be in my space no matter how long I had gone. Before I could investigate further, I heard loud voices that caught my attention. I stormed out, feeling the anger flare up in my chest, following the whispers that led me to the cafeteria.

As soon as I walked in, the room fell silent. Usual. I was used to people keeping quiet the moment they felt my presence. But today was different. Tension had filled the air. People whispering something within themselves definitely about me.

And that’s when I saw her.

She was sitting alone, clearly uncomfortable as the rest of the students whispered about her. She was trying her best to ignore them, but it was clear she wasn’t feeling it. There was something about her that caught my attention.

Her aura was different. I couldn’t really explain it, but I felt odd and awkward, like string was wrapped around my chest and facing me in her direction only. I didn’t like it.

I didn’t know who she was yet, but one thing I was sure of, she wasn’t just a regular student. And my assignment here on Earth was going to more than I expected.

I walked over to her table. She glanced up as I approached, and for a moment our eyes locked. There was something familiar in her gaze, and it pissed me off.

Later that night, after I had gone to see the principal, I returned to my room, expecting her to be gone. But she wasn’t. her scent still everywhere, taunting me.

I saw her lying on the bed, watching movie comfortably, as if she owned the place. The audacity.

“You’re still here,” I said in displeasure, standing in the doorway.

She didn’t even look up from her phone. “It’s my room too now. Get used to it.”

I let out a low, frustrated sigh, running a hand through my hair. “You don’t know who you’re dealing with.”

She dropped the phone on the bed, finally meeting my gaze. “Neither do you.”

We stared at each other for a moment, creating a huge, unexplainable tension between us. I felt that pull again, it was strange to me. It was unexplainable and confusing and I couldn’t afford to be distracted. Not now

“Why are you here?” I asked, my voice low.

She turned her head, like she was confused of the question I asked her. “Why do you care?”

Before I could respond, the lights in the room flickered. A cold sensation ran through the air, and for the first time, I saw fear written on her face.

It felt like there was some sort of energy that walked through the walls.

I moved to her closely, my eyes scanning the room for any sign of danger.” What the hell is happening?”

Her eyes widened, and for the first time, she called my name softly. “Xaphan…. Something’s here.”

“Stay behind me,” I told her immediately my guard on hold as the mass of energy, filled the room with a deafening roar. We were no longer alone.

The lights went off, and I barely had time to react before I heard a loud noise

“Ahh, Xaphaaaannn…” lyra cried and I could no longer feel her behind me any longer.
