Prologue

"Faster! "

I was almost out of breath running when Rome shouted. I accidentally hurt my foot because of the heels I was wearing. The boxes of bond paper he made me carry were also very heavy.

"Aren't you having breakfast?!" he faced me irritably. "I feed you well at my house, and then you're going slow like a snail?!"

"Sir, my feet can't take it anymore," I pleaded, letting him hear my exhausted breaths. I swallowed hard when he suddenly stopped, and after a few seconds, he still hadn't faced me.

When he finally faced me, I wanted to sink into the floor because of the fierce look on his face. I looked away and hugged the boxes I was carrying tighter.

"In this company, no one faces me complaining and exhausted. If you want to go home, get out of here." He said firmly. "I don't pick up the money I pay you from the ground. I work hard and sacrifice my rest even when I have no sleep. How dare you complain? Is this really what you want, to feel the good life without doing heavy work in your own workplace?"

I want to cry! He's angry again...

I shook my head slowly. "I'm not leaving my job, sir," I said determinedly. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again," my voice weakened.

"Then, good. Hurry up because I need that for printing. I told you about this from the very beginning, right? I don't want a slow person, I don't want clueless."

He turned his back on me without a word, so I ran to catch up with him. I almost tripped and fell when I slightly stumbled with my heels.

My God! I really just need to endure everything I'm experiencing now for the man I love.

I felt so embarrassed in front of my coworkers when I passed by them at their respective counters, but what mattered was that I wasn't far from Rome, who walked very fast.

Some even wanted to help me, but they were too scared of the lethal glare from Rome.

I knew that it's easy for Rome to fire employees, so the others were worried too, and they had no choice but to let me follow him, watching from a distance.

Finally, we arrived at his second office on the first floor, so I immediately let go of the boxes of bond paper and sat down on the couch. I took a deep breath and wiped the sweat dripping down my neck.

"Did I allow you to plop yourself on the couch?" Rome asked in a deep voice, so I stood up faster than lightning. I wiped my hands on my skirt.

"Do you have any more orders, sir?" I forced myself to smile even though my heart was pounding loudly from exhaustion.

"Yes. Anyway, I didn’t notice that I still have a lot of bond papers here. Please take those back to the office," he said casually as if he didn't see that I was almost dying from carrying the bond papers.

My mouth dropped open at what he said. Is he serious?!

"P-Pardon?" I clarified, hoping I just misheard him.

"Are you deaf? I told you I don’t want to repeat what I already said! Are you annoying me?" He banged his office table, so I shook my head several times.

"Can I take a break first?" I held onto my knees and took a deep breath. "Please?"

"No. After you get that stuff back from my office, get me a coffee and a piece of cake, and clean my office too since I can perfectly see the tiny dirt in every inch of my office. Understand, Faye?"

I just wanted to resign suddenly because of what he said. Is he really serious about his orders? I'm about to cry here.

"HURRY!" I jumped in shock. "Yes, sir!"

I tried to step outside and held on to the wall. I tightly closed my eyes and held back my cries.

You really are something, Rome!

If I didn't really love you, I wouldn't be so obedient to you, I said, crying as I went back into the office to get the bond papers.

But because I love you, I will endure everything just to prove that my love for you is sincere.
