Book 1: You and Me

Joey's Point of View

I walk into the double doors of the hell hole that is my high school, and I automatically feel like being hit by a car. Girls are screaming over the fact they're seeing the same friends they've had since freshman year, and some assholes are hitting people with paper balls. Probably because they don't have any real ones. Ugh. Whoever said high school is the best four years of your life was dropping some serious fucking acid.

My brown curls are sticking to my forehead from the humidity of the Florida sun. Summer break may only be two months, but the summer humidity is forever here in Florida.

I open my locker and take out my books for my first four classes, and when I close it, she's standing there. She is Georgia Rae Collins, or as I call her Georgie. She's been my best friend since middle school and I just so happen to be completely, and utterly in love with her. Yeah, how cliche right?

"Hey Joey, how's it hanging?" She asks me. Her blue eyes shine like the ocean, and her blonde hair hangs in cascades down her back. She's wearing her favorite Avenged Sevenfold t-shirt and her smile is lighting up the hallway.

"I would rather be at a concert, but here we are," I say with a smirk. I want to tell her how I feel, but I know better than to do that.

"Wouldn't we all?" She jokes. Her laugh is a beautiful sound. I smile at her.

"You're happy for someone who has to be in school right now," I say.

"It's Senior year Joey! Of course I am," she exclaims.

I smile. "I wish I shared your sentiment, Georgie."

She rolls her eyes. "Lighten up Joey."

"Gia!" I hear a familiar voice call. A voice that makes me want to punch him in the face. Georgie's boyfriend, Jesse, walks over to us.

"Still hanging with this loser?" He asks, putting his arm around her shoulders. Jesse is built like a tank. He's six feet, two hundred fifty pounds of pure steroids, but he's a pretty decent linebacker.

"Still dating this meathead Georgie?" I reply snarkily. He may have me out muscled, well he just has me beat in everything considering I'm only 5'11, but he doesn't have me beat by much!

"Play nice you two," Georgie warns.

"Gia, why do you let him call you that ridiculous name baby? You're too good for such a dumbass nickname," Jesse says clearly trying to piss me off.

"It's just a nickname Jesse," Georgie defends.

"It's stupid," he replies.

"You should know," I snap. He glares at me, but Georgie gives us a warning look.

"I'll meet you in class okay babe," She tells Jesse.

"Fine," he says glaring at me. He kisses her on the cheek, gives me one last glare, and saunters off to join the rest of his cavemen buddies.

"I wish you two could just get a long Joey," she says.

"Why am I the only one who calls you Georgie anymore?" I ask.

"Cause that's just a me and you thing, Jj," she says.

I roll my eyes. "Can't help I got stuck with that nickname a long time ago," I reply.

"Whatever Joey, I'll see you at lunch," she says walking away.

Good going Joey you've pissed her off. I sigh, and walk to my first class. She really deserves better than that asshole. He's already cheated on her once, and she took him back. He doesn't deserve her.

I walk into the lunchroom and sit down at the table we have sat at the past three years. Georgie sits down next to me and hugs me.

"I'm sorry about this morning Joey," she says.

"Me too," I reply.

She lets go, leaving me wishing she was still holding me. "I just get so frustrated when you two argue like that. I want y'all to get along," she says.

"He's a douchebag Georgia. He's lied to you, cheated on you, and he's grabbed you in a way that was not okay with me," I say. She needs to dump this loser.

She bites her lip, and looks away from me. She knows I'm right. "I love him Joey. Can you just try to get along?" She asks quietly. The sad look on her face breaks my heart.

"I'll try my best. Just for you," I say. She smiles at me, and my heart is thrown back together again.

"Thanks Joey," she says. I smile at her. As long as she's happy, I'm okay.

"You down to do our confessions after school?" She asks.

"Wouldn't want to be anywhere else," I reply with a smile. Since about the sixth grade we have done this ritual, where every first day of school we write a confession down, and put it in a keepsake box. We plan on opening and reading all of them on graduation.

She smiles again. "Awesome! You're driving," she says.

"As always," I tease her.

"Yeah yeah whatever, I just don't like driving okay," she defends.

"Whatever you say Georgie," I reply with a laugh.

I lean against my car and wait for Georgie. She's probably talking to Jesse, and he's probably trying to talk her out of going with me. This is a tradition though, and not even he could keep her from it. Well I hope so at least.

"Hey sorry I was talking to Jess before he had to go to practice," she says, running over to me breathless. Her hair is a little messy, and she has a small hickey forming on her neck.

"Yeah talking," I deadpan. Her face turns about as red as her Prius that she never drives.

"Whatever let's go!" She exclaims hopping into the front seat. I smile at her excitement, and shut her door for her. I climb into the driver seat, and head over to her house.

"So I see you and Jesse had a nice conversation," I tease.

She blushes and covers up her hickey. "Yeah something like that," she says.

"I'm surprised he didn't try to talk you out of going with me," I say with laugh.

"He did try, but I told him this was important," she says.

I smile. It makes me happy that she would stand up for our friendship like that. She's usually quick to give into what Jesse wants. Which I never understood because she's such a strong individual. I don't know what it is about Jesse that turns her into someone so submissive, but whatever it is I hate it.

"What're you thinking bout?" She ask nudging me in my side.

"Nothing," I lie, shaking my head.

"What's your confession going to be this year?" She asks. She does this every time.

I laugh. "You know I'm not telling you," I say.

She groans. "At least I get to find out in May, anyway," she says smirking at me.

I shake my head, and laugh at her reasoning. She really is adorable when she pouts.

I pull into her driveway, and stop the car. She smiles and races out of the car. "Last one there pays for lunch tomorrow!" She yells back at me.

I chuckle, and run after her. Of course I let her win though. There's no way I would make her pay.

"Beat ya," she gloats as we walk into the wooden clubhouse we built as kids.

"Hey I may have long legs, but running is not my forte," I joke.

She sits in one of the lawn chairs, and picks up the notepad, and pen. "Your ready?" She asks.

I shake my head yes, and sit down in the lawn chair across from her. "Absolutely, but ladies first," I says.

She smiles, and writes down her confession. She tears out the page, folds it up, and places it in the little wooden keepsake box.

"Your turn," she says handing over the pad and pen to me. I sigh, and begin to think about how I'm going to write this. I can't keep it forever.

My name is Joseph Jay Carter, and I have a confession to make. I've been in love with my best friend since middle school. Whoops.
