Amara slowly started to advance towards the hole. Seeing this on display made the forensics scared, all they could do was stand there in shock. Ethan moved to grab her hands. He said to her, “Amara, what do you see?”
Amara’s eyes were dazed, she just stared ahead smiling, “it is calling for me, I have to go.”
Ethan’s grip was indeed strong, but he felt like an invisible force was pulling him away. He had felt this kind of power before, but of such a magnitude, it would mean that the spell caster was stronger than he had expected. This didn’t make him worry, but rather, it excited him. He loved challenges. The harder and more powerful his opponent is, the happier and more excited he becomes. Thus this was what made him feared among every pack in Silverwood and beyond. He was everyone’s king.
After pulling Amara from the edge, he led her outside the club. Scared to a pulp, the forensics ran out immediately leaving their equipment’s behind. They couldn’t risk anything.
He immediately channelled his energy into Amara dispelling any enchantment that was placed on her, but as soon as he withdrew his hand, Amara held on to it. His hands now warm at her touch, ignoring this he reached out to touch her forehead and as expected it was burning out.
Mortals! So weak.
He didn’t know why the weak detective fell I’ll, but he knew it wasn’t because of the atmosphere, it certainly wasn’t. If it was, then the forensics and other agents running up and down would have fallen Ill too. Amara was indeed affected by that gem. The gem he wanted had caused such a huge problem.
Was it trying to draw the weak detective into her death just now?
It was impressive, a gem that even in its physical absence it could still infiltrate the mind, from miles away. The only odd thing was that this gem was strong enough to kill his own Lady Jane. Someone he cherished with his whole heart. His trusted right hand woman and the most feared she-wolf in Zathkanan Palace. It wasn’t the quality of the gem he was expecting.
For years he had been having a reoccurring dream, one about a red gem. That held so much power and history. Although in his dream the power and aura of this gem was peaceful, calm, beautiful. Its power was like flowing and becoming one with nature. This was what Ethan loved. Although he had a fierce, straightforward, merciless and cold aura, he was also fond of ethereal calmness and love for the beauty of nature. This helped in ascending to his place as his calm and quiet appearance made everyone in Zathkanan Palace love him. He was a young man of few words, smart, calm, but merciless. His history of killings were far too great to fit his appearance. In the mortal world at first glance, people will think he is an intelligent scholar with so much great future in front of him, but in the moon world, he was the most feared alpha in the four packs that roamed Silverwood. He was usually unbothered and acted as he wished, but his number one priority was his pack. He loved and protected his people so much that he could give his life for them. His years of acquiring powers was to be the strongest out of the four packs in Silverwood and the Zathkanan Palace took pride in that. Seeing Lady Jane and her disciples dead and reduced to nothing made him furious, that was why he was indeed quiet. The gem he wanted was either swapped and Lady Jane was deceived by the Westside witches or there was someone after him. This gem had a demonic energy and had caused thousands of deaths including the deaths of part of his pack.
Without another thought, he wanted to take her towards an emergency van when Amara let out a little laugh.
“Snap out of it!” Ethan called. Although the scene before him was strange, he was still calm and composed, completely unbothered.
“You came? I knew you would come searching. You can never escape the terrible fate that awaits you king of the wolves, especially with such a weak and frail mortal woman.”
Ethan was used to having a lot of enemies because of his power and influence, so words like this never affected him, but this came from the mouth of a mortal. His confusion didn't last for long because he immediately knew that Amara was possessed by something. This person was also talking about his fate and some kind of connection to the woman in front of him.
“Who are you? What did you mean?”
Amara laughed, a menacing laughter. “you think you can be strong forever? Zathkanan Palace is destined to burn down. Silverwood will be thrown into chaos with this mortal…” she pointed at herself, “…as the centre of it all.”
Hearing this, Ethan sighed, “where is the real gem, and what demonic piece did you make Lady Jane take?”
Amara laughed. “Find out for yourself, oh mighty king of the wolves!” this came out mockingly. Just as Ethan was about to ask his next question, Amara suddenly fell forward, landing on his chest. For a moment he stood still not knowing what to do or what to say.
He hated this. His thoughts are dismayed and disorganised. He was a straightforward person and also liked when people were straightforward with him. He wrapped his head around the problem that had happened within this past days. The problem with the Westside witches, Lady Jane and her disciples' death and now this mortal with him. How could she be what he was told she was. A key to a certain doom in Silverwood? Zathkanan Palace in ruins? She is the one who would bring him down? Just who was she? Was she even mortal? Who is this mysterious man? Ethan thought that meeting such a match, an equal would be by far the most interesting thing on his life.
He had a lot of questions and he needed sharp answers. As he was lost in his thoughts, Amara, who was still on his chest moved away from him, her eyes staring at his. She was lost at what had just happened as expected.
“You have a fever, go and check yourself. I will write a report of what we observed and send it to you later—”
“The man in the shadows,” she called out.
Ethan leaned in immediately for more explanation.
“There is this man who was in the crowd outside the organisation today, it was like he was following me—I know I must sound crazy but, as I was spacing out, I saw him again inside the club. I feel like he is somehow connected to this,” she explained.
Ethan listened to every word carefully. When she was done he nodded, “he dropped the radioactive poison and is following you.”
“I think he dropped it knowing that I would be the one to investigate such a case,” Amara’s face darkened, “why involve so many people if he wants me, how did he even? I have a lot of questions.”
“As do I, but right now you need to rest. It’s too early to come to conclusions anyways. I’ll see you back in the organisation,” Ethan said as a few staff came to attend to Amara. Without another word, he left Amara to the medical assistants while he walked away from the scene. His steps are calm and composed, but his mind is in turmoil.
