Chapter seven

Leila's POV

His voice vibrated with so much authority, I almost went down on my knees. He was the Lycan King whose anonymous name spelts doom. I was truly going to die in the hands of the brutal Lycan King. The one who had wrecked many lives without any regret. His eyes wandererd to where I was. His eyes squinted a bit as he watched me like a predator ready to feast on my soul.

A las I had met my end in the most brutal way. He was going to eat me up alive. His nose flared up in anger. Before I knew it, two of his people, had carried me and dumped me right in front of him. The pain I felt in my butt from the mighty fall was nothing compared to the pain I would be feeling few moments from now. I could feel his power radiating from this close distance. I almost melted when he spoke again.

"It is my duty to kill without mercy those who intrude especially at this time of the year and those who harbor the intruders". He said as he unsheathed his sword. His eyes bore no emotions. I couldn't beg, I was too scared to even talk.

Maybe my death would be more quicker and less painful if I played dumb. He raised his sword up high and I closed my eyes in tears. This was it, I was going to die in the hands of the heartless Lycan King. I waited for awhile but nothing happened. Was I already dead? But before one dies isn't he supposed to feel the pain of being slashed by a knife? Especially the one owned by the Lycan King himself. I opened my eyes slowly to see that I was still very much alive and I was still in the same position I was. I slowy looked up to see that his eyes were no longer on me. It was on the kind old woman. She was crying all of a sudden. I thought she didn't care if she was killed. What happened to having no fear of death?

"Please, I know it's wrong of me to beg you at this point but please I beg of you, have mercy on my niece and I. Please spare her, she's not the one at fault here". I almost scoffed. Niece? So that was the only lie she could come up with. He wouldn't believe her. She had successfully landed us into more troubles.

"If you want, you can kill me with your own hands I won't hold it against you my son but, don't leave me with the pain of seeing the only relative I have die painfully ". I saw his eyes soften when she called him her son. I am now officially confused. How is she even related to the Lycan King? Now I realized that I knew nothing about the woman who had saved me apart from the fact that she was a Lycan. Hell, I didn't even know her name. I watched as he brought his sword down.

"I can't live with the pain of knowing that I killed the woman who brought me into this world and raised me up to be the successful man I am today, so, I will spare you this time". He said as he sheathed his sword that was only a few inches from my jugular two minutes ago. So he was ready to kill his own mother for breaking his rules? Just how heartless is he. The rumors are definitely true. Lycans are heartless though, I just found out two hours ago that there were still some Lycans who had heart.

"Thank you very much". The old woman said almost postrating but he immediately caught her and made her stand up then he gestured to me to do the same, I immediately stood on my two feet. I narrowly escaped death two times in a row.

"I will let you go scot free but I need to interrogate you to be sure that you are not sent as a spy. We can't trust everyone even relatives at this point". He said and I nodded sharply. As long as I will not end up dead.

"Then you have to follow me to the pack house now. I need to watch you from a close angle". He said straightening up. My eyes darted from mother to son. The kind woman was ready to say something but I interrupted her immediately. I won't let her embarrass herself further with more lies.

"It's okay". I said with my head bent in respect. He just spared my neck. I didn't want to give another reason to dislodge my head from my body. He nodded at me and I figured out that it was for me to follow the two men who had lifted me effortlessly only to dumb me like a bag of vegetable in front of their leader.

I nodded immediately and followed the two men as they walked out of the house. Immediately I stepped outside, I breathed in the air. I hadn't had the time to explore my surroundings.

The air was filled with fresh air unlike what I was told when I was a pup back then in my pack. We were usually told that the air that the Lycans breathed was bloody and filled with burnt body, but that was not the case. Everyone seemed normal to me. A few of them stared at me curiously. Perhaps, wondering what a werewolf was doing in their midst. So far so good, none of them had tried to launch an attack towards me. Maybe, it was because of the men I stood with. They looked scary and we're hefty. Few minutes later, the Lycan King came out and he looked at me quickly for a moment, before shifting his gaze forward.

"Let's go". Immediately, my legs started moving. I wondered what he discussed with the kind woman. I hope he was not trying to murder me in the most brutal way. Our journey was definitely the most quiet period of my life. Nobody made even a sound. I was too scare to shift when I felt uncomfortable. I didn't want to draw the attention of the heartless man sitting next to me.

"Lady Vee, this is the new maid. Teach her everything she needs to know and keep an eye on her". He told the woman who was smiling so widely. My eyes widened, I thought he said he wanted to interrogate me? How did that connect with working as a maid? I am the daughter of a Beta. That's what omegas do. But I guess I will have to slam my mouth shut if I want to live.

"Come on dear what's your name". The woman said grabbing me immediately. Why was she smiling at me? Didn't she know that I was a werewolf or was she pretending because her leader asked her to take me?

"Leila". I stuttered.

"Oh Leila, whose family are you from because I haven't seen you around". She pulled my hand into hers. That was when it dawned on me that they didn't know I was a werewolf. They thought I was one of them. For the first time, I was happy that my wolf decided to give up on me. That's not the big problem here . The big problem here is that, I'm officially screwed, I don't even know the kind woman's name.

"Lady Vee please it's almost time for the Alpha's lunch". A girl of about my age bowed her head and oh goddess, was I grateful for the interruption. At least, she had moved her piercing and demanding eyes from my face and I was able to breathe properly again without being scared of doing it the wrong way.

"Let's get to work immediately, if you were chosen to be one of the Alpha's servants for tonight stay back. The rest scram". She was half done with her speech when the hall was almost emptied. I was amazed by their speed. They ran as if they were being chased by a beast. Their feets barely touching the ground.

"What are you still doing here? The Alpha will be here anytime soon. Please, kindly follow the others if you don't want to end up in the infamous place of rest". Lady Vee said as she stared at me in horror. She was worried. The rumors were true. It is definitely the goddess mercy that I narrowly escaped death from him. I nodded my head and turned immediately to the area I had seen half of the servants run to.

"Serving the Alpha is not something that anyone enjoys. One mistake, and your head pays". Jessica snapped her fingers in demonstration. I was at the servants' quarters. Oh yes, lady Vee had directed me to my room. I had already done the whole introduction thing with my roommates. My roommates were all talking about the Lycan King. They were practically drooling. A part I don't get. Hearing more about him makes me wish not to cross path ever with him.

"He is a walking temptation. I mean it, he is drop dead gorgeous. I will gladly die by his hands just so that I can have his scents and fingerprints imprinted in me". Bessie said dreamily.

"Don't fantasize over him. It's of no use. I hear that he doesn't have a heart to start with ". Hannah said in hushed tones.

"That makes him hotter". I shook my head. Sadly, she reminded me of someone I knew.

"Is he that scary?" I asked slowly.

"Oh my, he is not scary. He is death himself. One time, he smelt a sneaky werewolf who was hiding his scent ten miles away and he ripped his heart out of his body right on the spot. He wasn't dazed at all by the blood that sprung out from the dead body like a waterfall more like a bloody fall. I was in that room, I almost died". Jessica said grabbing her chest. My body was already shaking. Does that means that he already knew who I was? Was he planning on giving me the worse death ever?

"You're lucky you weren't asked to be among his servants when you got here. That way, you don't have to see him. Many of them don't stay up to two hours"

"I already saw him ". I blurted and everyone raised their eyebrows at me. They looked at me as if I had grown two heads.

"He was the one who brought me here". I defended. For a minute or so, the whole room was quiet then Hannah broke the silence with her laughter that resounded in the room.

"That's the Alpha's second in command you asshole ". She said when she recovered from her fits of laughter. The other girls joined her immediately she dropped her statement.

"Well, I don't blame you, Beta Liam is also intimidating but, trust me when I say he isn't half as intimidating as the Alpha is". Hannah said and I almost fell from where I stood. My whole body was on vibration and I was glad that no one noticed it.

They were suddenly talking about the werewolf Alphas that the Lycan King had killed making it worse for me. I was sweating profusely. My eyes were wet but, not with tears this time, but with sweat. I was suddenly hot. If the man I had almost died by his sword was the Lycan King's Beta who was no match to the King, I wonder how the Lycan King will be. No, I don't want to know. He has a highly sensitive nose. He could kill me just as he had killed Alpha Kaden of silver moon pack.

I was left with only one solution which was to 'stay twenty miles away from the Lycan King ' but that decision didn't last up to a month as I stood in front of lady Vee wishing she would withdraw her statement but the lady was adamant .

"It's your turn to serve the king today". I was ready to kneel and beg her with everything to retract her statement but oh boy, the lady was god-damned adamant.

Tears flowed freely from my eyes as I saw my life flash in front of me. I was destined to die in his hands. I closed my eyes and whispered my last prayer as I welcomed the cold hands of death.
