Chapter 1

I was beaten by my husband to the point of ending up in the ICU, unable to speak. But I insisted on writing a few words on paper: "It's okay; love can numb the pain." My mother was so furious she fainted on the spot. My life was in danger, and even before losing consciousness, I was still defending him.

As my consciousness gradually faded, I felt warm fingers lifting my eyelids, shining a blinding flashlight on me. A pleasant voice with a hint of regret sounded, "This girl has been cursed."

The next moment, I fell into complete chaos.

I was reborn.

I returned to three years ago, on Monica's birthday. I accompanied her to a bar for the experience. It was there that I encountered a group of thugs harassing us. This is when I first met the hero who came to my rescue, Stephan, who I instantly fell in love with.

But along with that memory came the image of him repeatedly throwing punches at me!

I screamed in fear.

"Zelda?" Monica was startled by my scream and pulled me aside, asking with concern, "Are you okay? Did you drink too much and get a headache?"

I nodded, "Monica, let's go home first. I suddenly remembered something."

There were some things I needed to confirm right away.

Monica hesitated when she heard my words, seeming somewhat reluctant.

"We had planned to have a late night out, and it's not even ten o'clock yet."

But maybe it was my deteriorating condition; she finally said, "Alright, let's go home. But wait for me here; I'll use the restroom, and then we can head back."

I looked at Monica with gratitude. Regardless of this life or the previous one, she was my best friend. When I faced alienation and betrayal in my previous life, she was the only one who remained steadfast by my side, helping me during my most difficult times. So, when I almost killed Stephan back then, she was the first person I called.

Two minutes later, Monica returned.

She smiled and held my hand, saying, "Let's go, Zelda."

We left the bar, crossing the somewhat long corridor. During the day, the corridor seemed fine, but at night, the dim streetlights created an atmosphere in line with the hotel, making it challenging to see the path.

I quickened my pace.

However, the next moment, a group of people rushed out from the corner.

My heart skipped a beat.

It seemed that there were things I couldn't change no matter how many times I was reborn.

But now, as I gazed at those familiar faces from the previous life, I realized they were merely a group of students who looked somewhat more mature and deliberately acted menacingly.

However, their eyes betrayed their innocence.

A thought suddenly popped into my head—perhaps they weren't real "thugs."

Facing Monica, who was on the verge of tears, I pulled her behind me and calmly looked at the leader.

"Who sent you?"

As soon as I spoke, the leader hesitated for a moment, looking like he had been caught red-handed. I gave a cold smile.

Just as I thought.

I continued, "How much are they paying you? I'll give you twice as much."

I took out my wallet, revealing several hundred-dollar bills, and threw it at his feet.

He hesitated for a moment, then bent down to pick up the wallet. After confirming the amount inside, he exchanged glances with his friends, looking somewhat bewildered. It was clear that this situation was beyond the scope of their original "script."

Just then, a brave voice echoed at the end of the corridor.

"Stop! Let them go!"

I was all too familiar with that voice. Even in this life, hearing it made me want to tremble. Tremble in fear.

The cruel words from the past flashed through my mind one by one:

"Zelda Chasey, marry a chicken, follow the chicken; marry a dog, follow the dog. You're married to me, so my words are law."

"I've never seen anyone as despicable as you. I've been so good to you, given you everything, and it seems like it's been very effective."

"No money? I'll keep beating you until you have money!"

I closed my eyes briefly and then opened them again to see that face. Stephan from three years ago, the Stephan who became a hero in my eyes, the one I instantly fell in love with. The same Stephan who later nearly beat me to death.

Welcome back, I suppose.
