☬ - 04 | My love is gone

"Don't be afraid of having no one. Be afraid of having someone and yet feeling alone." - Author unknown.

Hours earlier...

It was already past 6:00 p.m, when someone knocks insistently on the door of Kamael's house. Berriere was sleeping when she heard the knocks on the front door. Getting up, she runs to see who it is.

- My God! Who can it be at this time? - she complains, opening the door. In front of her, there was a tall policeman with a tired look. She stared at him without understanding the cautious manner in which he was approaching her, asking her to breathe slowly and to be calm. At that moment her life would turn upside down.

- I'm sorry for the inconvenience Mrs. Mondova, I don't have good news. Unfortunately, your husband Kamael Moldova suffered a terrible accident and died. - Cautiously he passed the information to Berriere who leaned on the door without saying a word.

- Could you come with me to the police station for the body identification?

- It can't be! He couldn't be dead! - she whispered to the policeman, who didn't understand a word she said. - He left home today angry with me, sir, I didn't have time to apologize for upsetting him. - Feeling guilty for the stress of this morning, she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. - My love is gone.

- Come with me! Is there anyone else who can help you with the process of releasing the body?

- No. He was an only child with deceased parents.

- I am sorry. - He laments in a sad voice.

Taking her bag and keys, she locks the house and gets into the car with the policeman. In her mind, she thought: You can't do this to me. How will I live alone? Kamael was everything to me, I only had him.

- My God! - she exclaimed aloud.

- I know it's difficult, Mrs. Mondova, but everything will be fine. Grief is cruel, it leaves us vulnerable, and even worse, it always comes with guilt. We blame ourselves for things we should have done or said that we didn't have the courage to say or express. Keep strong and believe me, it will hurt, but it will pass.

- Leaving my parents' house straight to his house. We didn't have a child or anything. What will it be like to live alone in that huge house? - she says. Stuck in her thoughts, she doesn't even realize she's in the hospital.

- Come with me! - Taking her to a room at the end of the hall, the policeman tries to explain that the vision she would have inside the room was shocking. She covers her mouth in an effort to swallow her tears.

- I feel butterflies in my stomach. - She whispers. A woman asks her if she was ready to see the body. In her mind she just wanted to make sure it wasn't her husband, that it was all a mistake.

- Ok. - As she enters, she immediately covers her nose. A very strong smell of burning flesh wafted through the room. In front of him was the body of a person much smaller than her husband, looking closely she couldn't believe it was Kamael. - I can't find anything to say it's my husband. - On closer examination, she came across the ring with his name on it.

At that very moment, she was sure it was Kamael. In despair, she cries completely.

- How did such a big man get to be this size? He must have been still alive when everything happened. - It was too much information for her head. Feeling her consciousness short-circuiting, she let all that emotion consume her, the crisis of panic and despair made the doctors sedate her, leaving her unconscious for hours.

She wakes up without understanding what is happening. Realizing that she is in a hospital room, she hears a deep male voice that catches her attention. Looking for the owner of this voice, she sees a middle-aged man talking to the doctor. In his mind, she is sure that they are talking about her.

- I'll take care of her. - He answers another person who is not in his line of sight. He turns and stares at her with watery eyes. He analyzes her features, she doesn't look strange, he believes he has seen her somewhere before.

- Good morning! - he says looking at her expecting an answer.

- Who are you? - she asks, analyzing his physiognomy. Thinks: Up close you look a lot like my Kamael. Then her fixation falls and despair returns. She starts to sob, her chest burns.

- Calm down, I'm here! - He takes her hand and, afraid, she pulls it away, leaving him speechless.

- I don't know who you are, I don't want to know either. I just want my husband, my Kamael. - He walks away sad. He notices the red eyes of someone who has been crying for hours. She wonders internally who that man is.

- I am suffering too, young lady! - he Confesses.

- My name is Berriere. - she rebuts rudely.

- Mine my name is Bronck. - I recognized the name, but in the deep, I didn't want to believe this was happening.

- Who are you? - she asks, shocked.

- I am Kamael's father. - He confirms.

In her mind, there was only one thought: Did he lie to me? It is not possible that Kamael did this!

- It's not possible! - She protests, lying to herself.

- Huh? What makes you think I'm not his father, young lady? I may be older, but my son was my face.

- He said you were already passed away. - Without bothering to know the truth, she answers him. She looks incredulously and thinks: Is this guy an actor or has Kamael lied to me all these years? Then she thinks about what he said, that if he had lied all these years she could have said harsh words to the man in front of her and by the look on his face she had hurt him.

He looks at her shocked. Berriere realized the similarities that were surreal. Kamael would look beautiful more mature, she thought.

- Look, young lady, I am his father and I can prove it. Unfortunately, I am alive, but I sincerely wish I were dead. - Seeing that his eyes are about to overflow, he takes a deep breath and like a child, he threatens to swallow his cry. Feeling bad about it, he lowered his shoulders.

- I'm sorry. - she asks as he watches.

- We were on a call when everything happened, that's why I know about your death and rushed here. I only found out about you today. Berriere cuts him off before he can say all that has happened.

- I didn't know about you either. - He stares at her seriously, as if he were trapped in his thoughts.

- You will come with me! - She looks at him incredulously.

- No," she replies.

- Yes! You're coming, young lady.

In her head, an internal argument raged. ok, but I'm not coming at all!

- I have a company and I'll take care of it for Kamael. - She throws the words in his face, startled by her own tone of voice.

He thought: what am I saying? I don't know what my life will be like. Pulling her eyes away from his, she is shocked by her own words. How could I do this alone?

- Don't be pathetic, your company is broke, I've been supporting it for eight months. Your husband didn't even say thank you. I loved him, he was my only child, I lost my wife and life once again takes away from me someone precious. You are the only thing I have now. So, you are coming with me, period!

- I need to take care of a few things at the company. - Becoming unhappy with his words, he tries to play it down.

- Ok. We leave in three days. I will pay off the debt and sell everything. The money will be all yours, after all, the patrimony is yours. - He announces, making fun of the company that, for Berriere, Kamael had created with so much cost. He knew about the financial problems and found it rude of his father to treat it as if it was nothing. How can he be so bossy? she thought.

- You don't have to. I have money. - At that moment she hated him, because she doesn't think he has any idea of the financial ruin her company is in.

- Don't be ridiculous. You're broke, young lady. - He looks at her with a debauched smile.

- You're the one who's ridiculous! - These words leave Bronck surprised, he looks at her in astonishment, as if he were an ET.

- I don't think anyone has ever reprimanded you in your life, Mr. Mondova. - He mocks his expression. - I'll pay the debt and save my company.

- Would you have 15 million in your fashionable little purse, young lady? - He mocks you to your face. she shouts internally. How can you be ridiculous like that! Can't you see that you are being rude? You think.

- First, my name is Berriere Mondova, and second, I am aware of my company's debts.

- Okay. But you come with me and this is not a question. - I couldn't believe how rude you could be.

- Get out of my room now! - In response to the altered tone of the order given to her, she sits down and crosses her legs.

This makes her furious. She tries to get up and falls to the floor, not understanding why her legs don't obey her body.

- What happened? - she asked.

Bronck immediately gets up, goes to her, and looks at her worriedly.

- Can I pick you up off the floor? - he asks fearfully.

- No," she replies tearfully.

- Please, let me help you. - She pleads worriedly.

- He says yes. - She looks at him with her eyes in tears and thinks, "How you remind me of my Kamael." - He picks her up easily even though they are almost the same height.

Berriere gets nervous and doesn't know why.

- Put me on the bed now. - She suggests.

- I'm not going to hurt you, little girl, I just want to take care of you. - He squeezes her against his chest. She feels a tear coming down her cheek, she's sure she's crying.

- Let me go, Mr. Mondova.

He sobs. Feeling his sadness, he thinks: You lost your only son, I can imagine how you must be suffering from this.

- I know that... - she is interrupted.

- Please, shut up, young lady. - She shuts up as she cries and presses him to her chest. Trying to look at him who stops her with his chin.

- I just need a moment. I'll let you go.

- It's okay. - She decides not to argue and decides to respect his pain.

She thinks: even in this Kamael takes after him, he doesn't like to cry in front of others.

- I'll put you to bed. I have to make a phone call.

- That's fine. - she consents.

Putting her on the bed, he walks away, picks up his cell phone, and calls his secretary.

Berriere believed to be his wife. Since she knew nothing about his life.

- Carmen, the reason for my sudden absence was the death of my son Kamael. Tell him I'll be back soon, at least in three days. Change my entire agenda, tell the Chinese that I will go to their country if they don't want to wait for me. If they decide to stay, put them all up in the best hotel in Seattle. - He watches him listening carefully to everything the caller says. She must be his secretary. You can't possibly send your wife to do all this.

- Thank you very much. - He thanks me, ends the call, and looks at me with sadness.

- I'm going to check on your discharge. We'll go to your house.

- Okay. - He leaves and returns a short time later.

- Do you want a wheelchair or shall we try to walk?

- Try to walk, please. - He asks politely.

He reaches out his hand to her, who takes it and looks into his eyes, feeling that he is encouraging her to stand up. Standing up, she feels her legs shaking.

- She looks at me. - She stares at him nervously as she speaks. - Trauma can leave your body like this. All in good time, young lady. - Getting angry at me for calling her a girl, she shouts.

- My name is Berriere.

- Let's go! - Without patience, he takes her in his arms.

- Oh! - she complains.

Now she was sure, he and Kamael were two of a kind.

- There's Kamael's authoritarian way! I can see where he gets his rudeness comes from. - At this moment reality consumed her. - My God! How will I live without my husband? - Crying again, she held her body close to her as the crying took over. She cried with sobs. He takes her out of the hospital. Getting into a car with a driver, she stands close to him.

- Address? - she asks in a crying voice. Give me the address, he repeats to the driver.

The car picks up speed and in a few minutes, we are close to her house.

- I'll take care of you, young lady. - She ignores him completely.

Once home, she tries to get out, but can't, and once again picks her up.

- Where is your room? - He tries to find out.

- Upstairs. - She points to the second floor.

- Come on, I'll put you to bed. Try to get a nap.

He leads her up the stairs, putting her in her bed.

- Don't leave me alone. - She begs, holding his arm.

- I'll get my bag, I'll be right back.

He leaves, she stares at her hands.

- What will my life be like now? - she whispers.

I settle down, soon sleep catches me up with.
