Chapter 1: Let's Get a Divorce

I returned to the villa from the cemetery and quickly packed up, taking all of Emma's belongings. I didn't want to stay here for another second.

As I reached the door with my suitcase, it was suddenly flung open. Hiram rushed in without even glancing at me., carrying Irene was in his arms.

Irene was the daughter of a driver who worked for Clark House. Young and beautiful, she later became Hiram's stepmother.the Clark House driver and later became Hirams stepmother, young and beautiful.

Hiram's father married her and passed away a month later. Yet, Irene continued living at Clark House.

Hiram visited her almost every other day, leaving me and our daughter at home. So, it wasn't surprising he left us to see Irene.

I picked up my suitcase and continued walking out.

Hiram placed Irene on the sofa and coldly looked at my back. "Alexia, what are you up to nowwhat are you doing?"

Irene clung to Hiram's neck and softly said, "Alexia, we just got back from an overseas trip, and I twisted my ankle earlier. Hiram said this place was close byWe were near here, so he brought me here to take care of it. Please don't mind."

I scoffed inwardly as I watched Hiram carefully apply an ice pack to her ankle as if she were fragile.

Two years ago when I had a car accident and broke my leg, what did he say? "It's just a broken leg, not like you're dead. What do you want me to do about it?"

How could I endure being treated unfairly?such differential treatment any longer?

I spoke up, "Hiram, you can keep this house. Let's get a divorce."

Hiram was momentarily surprised but then sneered, "Divorce? Have you forgotten that we never even registered our marriage?"

It hit me then; we had only hastily held a simple wedding ceremony without registering for a marriage certificate.

"Then let's break up," I said.

"Is this your new way of getting my attention?" He didn't even bother to lift his head. "You couldn't threaten me with your daughter, so now you're playing your little game of a break uptrying to use yourself?"

Four months ago, our daughter was diagnosed with leukemia— that was incurable. I called Hiram repeatedly, saying our daughter wanted to see her father. But he never came.

So this is what he thought—that I was using our child's illness to threaten him or gain sympathy.

After all this time living together, he still didn't understand me at all.

Holding back tears, I turned and walked away.

Irene called after me, "Alexia, I heard you planned to take Emma to the amusement park. Are you upset because Hiram missed it to see cherry blossoms with me?"

Hiram consoled her, "It's not your fault; the amusement park will always be there, but cherry blossom season is fleeting. I wantedneeded to fulfill your wish first."

I laughed bitterly. "Her wish..."

Unable to hold back any longer, I shouted, "Her wish is fulfilled, but what about Emma's wish?"

Hiram frowned and grabbed my arm,. about to lose his temper when he saw the tears in my eyes and pausedHe almost lost his temper but controlled it when he saw my teary eyes. "It's just an amusement park; can't you gowe can go anytime.? Do you have to make such a fuss?"

He added reluctantly, "Next week, we'll take Emma together. Is that okay?"

Next week? Emma didn't have another week.

Coldly shaking off his hand, I said, "No need!"

Hiram looked at his empty hand in bewilderment.
