Sofia heaved a sigh of relief when the most hateful jerk, Dave drove away. She walked from the window to her bed and lay down. It was then that the realization struck her! How did Dave know where she lived? She hadn't given him her address, yet he had dropped her home!
Her eyes widened at the realization. It really seemed too creepy now! She couldn't figure out what was going on! It was late when Victoria returned. A friend of Liam's dropped her home. Sofia wasn't happy with her and had already gone to bed, waiting to fight with her.
In the morning, Sofia sat at the breakfast table, ready to go to college. Their parents were already present and Sofia knew that she couldn't talk to Victoria in front of them. She would have to wait till they returned from college.
Davion returned to Reno but his heart was restless and he didn't know why. He went about his work like before but deep in his heart he wasn't very happy. The carefree, reckless, and free spirit that was characteristic to him was sadly missing. He lost his temper at the drop of a hat which had Colton worried about him. Moreover, he was always grumbling and experienced severe mood swings. Even Colton wasn't spared from his wrath!
Everyone started speculating what exactly happened to their cool boss! Women flocked to him like before but strangely he didn't entertain them at all. "Has boss turned g*y?" Asked Davion's PA, Gina Spencer who tried her best to get his attention but failed. She was a new recruit and having heard of his notorious reputation, thought of trying her luck with him. But Davion immediately put her back in her place and threatened to terminate her employment if she tried such things again.
Colton grinned at her, shaking his head. "I don't think so. Maybe he's pm-sing or something!" He said, his grin widening further as Gina chuckled.
"You're not bad either! We could meet up sometime. What do you say?" She suggested. Colton's eyes glittered and he winked at her.
"Sure if you're that desperate!" He said with a smirk. He was a bigger playboy than Davion was and he never let go of an opportunity for fun.
"I am desperate but only for you, Glenn, " said Gina winking back. "Tonight at my place? Wait for me," she said and Colton gave her a thumbs-up sign and sauntered off. He was used to these girls. He knew that she might have used the same line on Davion too. Why would he leave an opportunity to get a good f*ck?
However the whole day he was so busy that he forgot about Gina's offer. After lunch, he left for New York much to Gina's disappointment.
Davion received a call from Sofia's dad, Gregory Blakesley. "Yes, Mr. Blakesley, what can I do for you?" Asked Davion.
"Didn't Mr. Glenn update you about the latest problem that has cropped up?" Mr. Blakesley asked.
"No, he's left for New York for an emergency meeting," said Davion. "Please tell me what happened, " said Davion.
"Mr. Torres, this is regarding the lawsuit filed against Royal Torres Casino and Hotels, Las Vegas. One of your patrons, Mr. Ricardo Santini, has refiled his lawsuit, charging your hotel for negligence since he wasn't under the influence of alcohol that night and he had to be hospitalized due to the mishap," said Sofia's dad.
Davion frowned at the new problem that had suddenly cropped up. He knew Mr. Santini very well as he was a very big name in the social media circle. Being the Founder/Director of a software giant, his company had launched many innovative products that were a big hit in the market.
"Please do something about it Mr. Blakesley. How much compensation is he demanding?" Asked Davion, worriedly massaging his temples. Just as he had thought that the problem was solved, a new one cropped up again.
"He's demanding a very high compensation package, Mr. Torres. I'll handle this, don't worry," said Sofia's dad.
After disconnecting the call, before Davion could even think about the new complications, he received a phone call from Colton.
"Bro, mom's serious. I just received a phone call from her caregiver. I'm on my way home from the airport. I had to cancel the flight under the circumstances, " said Colton.
"Oh. I'll just go and see her," said Davion. After disconnecting the call, he got up and handed the charges over to his manager and Head of Operations, Mr. Drayto. He quickly drove over to Colton's house.
Aunt Kathy's caregiver, Susan opened the door with a panicked expression on her face. "Mr. Torres, it seems that we need to take Mrs. Glenn to the hospital immediately. She's suffered a brain stroke," she informed Davion. He wasted no time and immediately called for an ambulance. In five minutes, the ambulance arrived and the pre-medic present declared that aunt Kathy indeed suffered from a brain stroke. They rushed her to the nearest hospital.
They immediately admitted her to the critical care unit and started conducting the necessary tests. Davion wasted no time and completed the formalities. Colton arrived looking worried and scared. "Is mom conscious? How serious is her condition, bro?" He asked Davion, as they stood outside the ICU of the Critical Care Department.
"She was semi-conscious when I went to your house. She hasn't gained complete consciousness since then," said Davion. "Here comes the doctor in charge of Aunt Kathy. Let's take an update from him," said Davion. However, after talking to the doctor, they didn't get much hope since it seemed to be a serious stroke. Colton broke down completely feeling guilty for not being there for his mom when she needed him the most. Davion tried his best to comfort him but it was difficult and he wasn't very good at this sort of thing.
For the next fifteen days, both boys forgot everything around them as Colton's mom battled for life. The whole time they were busy at the hospital trying to revive Katherine Glenn but finally, all their efforts were wasted. Colton's mom breathed her last without gaining enough consciousness even to talk to her son or bid her final goodbye to him. Both Colton and Davion were devastated as they now became orphans with no one in the world except each other. After ten days, they completed Katherine Glenn's last rites and Davion returned to his office. Colton was too grief-stricken to continue and went away to some quiet place without informing anyone. Davion was too worried about him but he gave him his space. He needed it the most now. He tried hard to concentrate on work but couldn't. So, closing his eyes he just rested his head on the headrest of his chair when there was a knock on his door.
"Yes, come in," he ordered and to his dismay, his newly recruited PA, Gina Spencer walked into the room with an envelope in her hand.
"Good morning, sir," said Gina as Davion groaned inwardly not wanting to deal with her right now.
"What do you want, Ms. Spencer?" He barked out.
"Sir, I just came to hand this over to you. It came in last week but you were busy so I couldn't give it to you," she said, handing the envelope over to him. Davion took the envelope from her.
"Thank you, Ms. Spencer. You may leave now," he said curtly. After she left, he glanced at the important-looking document. What could it contain? It looked like a legal document. Opening it he gasped. He had completely forgotten about the lawsuit filed by Mr. Santini twenty-five days ago. He hadn't even heard from Mr. Blakesley after that discussion and wondered what happened to that case.
He read through the contents of the court reminder stating that he had missed the twenty-day deadline to file a response to the lawsuit and as such the court would grant the plaintiff a default judgment against him.
Davion was horrified by the letter. That only meant one thing. Mr. Blakesley hadn't done the work that he had asked him to do. Furious and worried, he called Sofia's dad but his phone was switched off. After trying repeatedly, he decided to go to Las Vegas and talk to him personally.
How could he be so irresponsible? Now he would have to pay Mr. Santini anything that he demands if he gets a court judgment. This was surely a breach of duty and if needed he would sue Mr. Blakesley's firm for negligence.
Furious, Davion boarded the next flight to Las Vegas. He had no time to wait and think. He needed to blast Gregory Blakesley and if he couldn't solve this issue, he would sue his law firm for negligence and malpractice. Having decided that he reached Las Vegas in the evening.
He called Mr. Blakesley just as he was about to leave his office. "I need to meet you now, Mr. Blakesley. I'm arriving at your office in ten minutes, " he said angrily.
"Mr. Torres, I'm sorry..," started Sofia's dad but he wasn't listening at all.
"There's no room for an apology, Mr. Blakesley. I'm coming down to talk," he shouted angrily, disconnecting the call.
