Chapter 11: Escape

The four teens’ jaws dropped when they heard it. They found it weird but they understood the language.

“She’s a witch and a priestess,” Elise whispered in American English.

“What?” Diana said in a low voice. “How did you know that?”

Elise shook her head. “I don’t know. I seem to read or hear her thoughts,” Elise whispered again to her friend.

Diana was more confused while looking at Elise with disbelief.

“Where exactly are we?” Eric asked. He wanted to confirm what he knew. “Is it really in Ancient Egypt?”

“What the hell are we doing here? Just how did it happen?” Kent asked and glanced at Elise. His brows were furrowed.

“I don’t know!” Elise said, shaking her head once again. “And she’s asking the same thing in her mind!” she added, referring to the priestess, gesturing her way.

“Who are you?” the priestess asked again. She stepped closer to them, and the guards followed her.

The priestess’ skin was olive like Diana’s. Her headdress covered her bald head. She looked odd as they realized she had no eyebrows. Her make-up was applied perfectly though, and she was beautiful even without the eyebrows.

The woman wore a pair of large earrings and a necklace that were wide and big, a combination of gold and bronze. Those must weigh a lot, in Elise’s observation. Moreover, the priestess’ breasts were perfect, which were covered only by thin linen. Her hips were round and full, and her pelvic area was merely covered by a scanty linen cloth.

Elise’s eyes traveled to the priestess’ arms that were not bare because of some symbols tattooed on her skin. A cobra was also even tattooed on her right arm. Plus, the woman in her mid-to-late twenties had left her legs bare that were adorned with golden bangles and was completely barefooted.

Eric and Kent swallowed as they stared at the beautiful priestess. Eric blinked his eyes rapidly. One of his weaknesses was women with olive skin. Like Diana. He cursed inside his head, trying not to ogle her.

Elise came around to step in front of her companions. She hesitated to speak. Nonetheless, she did—in Archaic Egyptian.

“I—I am Elise… this is my brother Eric and my friends Kent and Diana.” She gestured as she spoke.

The priestess found it strange because the white girl could speak their language well. Maybe they were some of those Sea People who wanted to settle in their lands. Then she slowly turned to Diana. The younger girl had almost the same shade of her skin, judging by the look at her face. She could pass for a priestess at her age and looks, minus the clothes however.

The priestess eyed the red-haired guy. She had seen no one like him before. And there was something fierce and a character in his midnight colored eyes. She thought he was unique. After scrutinizing him, her gaze went over to Kent. His hair was almost sunny yellow, and his eyes were strange, like the color of skies. He looked godly beautiful… like the sun.

Is he a son of a god? she asked herself.

Her eyes widened as a realization dawned upon her. They might be sent by the gods to save them, to help their king win the battle against King Hor-Aha. For so many years they fought, maybe it was time for them to live in peace finally.

“Get them!” the priestess commanded the guards to take them away.

But Kent and Eric fought against the big guards. The priestess backed off and watched with mouth wide open. Meanwhile, Diana and Elise went further to the side to get away from the fight.

Eric delivered a front kick to the nearest guard and sent him staggering backward to the other guard and was out balanced. They fell to the floor. Kent also back kicked another guard that was coming toward him and snatched his mace. He hit him hard in the head. When another guard came up to him, he also used it to hit him in the stomach. Without letting go of the mace, he hit another one in the face while Eric finished off the last guard with a powerful side kick.

The priestess gaped at them in awe with her hand placed over her hammering heart. She hollered for more guards.

Kent held Elise by the hand and Eric held Diana’s as well to run away. But several guards were already coming. It seemed that there were only two ways out. So they ran to the other side, which led to the garden and pool. The guards noticed and were ready to pounce on them if they continued to attack.

They could not go back. Nevertheless, they calculated that the four guards seemed to be so easy to defeat. Diana kicked the crouch of the first guard. Elise did the same and chopped his throat. The two guys kicked the guards on the shin and in the face. All fell down the ground, grunting.

They ran forward and discovered it was a dead end. Fences were surrounding the garden and the pool. Elise pointed a shorter part of the high fence. She hastily stepped on Kent’s hands he offered and he tossed her over the fence. She managed to get on the fence and saw a ladder on the other side. She pulled it and dropped it close to her brother’s side. She already saw the guards coming.

“Hey, watch it!” Eric complained and took the ladder.

Elise murmured her apologies with a grimace. Diana went up first quickly and followed by Kent.

This time, the guards were armed with bows and arrows. One guard fired his arrow but Eric caught it with his bare hand before it could hit Kent’s back. It was just in time that Kent looked behind and saw what Eric had done for him.

“Thanks, pal!”

“Don’t mention it.” Eric said and he hastily got onto the ladder himself, and they all jumped off the fence.

“Aw!” Diana groaned when she landed awkwardly, almost twisted her ankle.

Eric helped her up, holding her by the arm.

Some more arrows were fired at them but the walls made it impossible to even scratch them. They looked around to some place where they could run. Kent led the group this time. Everywhere was so dark though. They could only see some torches lit but they were so far away.

“We’ll head toward those lights,” Kent said, pointing at the direction where the lights were.

They looked back and saw that the guards were coming in two different directions where they had just left. The guards chased them. They saw the priestess ride a horse, and she was coming fast after them. Not long after, they were surrounded by the armed guards, ready to execute them.
